Any Trace Elliot repair-guys here ? 1215 question.
3below replied to lorbas's topic in Amps and Cabs
Could it be noise picked up from fluorescent, led or other noisy devices e.g. pc/screen? Do you have access to an oscilloscope? If so investigate the rectified power supply quality. Is the noise present on the dc power supply after rectification and smoothing before reaching the poweramp stage? Even better if you can disconnect the power supply from the pre and poweramp boards when you investigate. If you don't have a 'scope, I would replace the rectification diodes on the basis that a) they are the other main parts in the rectification and b) they are cheap. Looking at the schematic (If I have the correct one), C11 0.22uF capacitor might also be worthwhile changing (although an unlikely candidate). Another possibility is a poor earth connection (causing a ground loop) somewhere between the various pcbs, transformer, case metalwork etc. After that you are into checking power amp capacitors C3 -> C8. Good luck! -

Having bought one (black Friday price plus online discount code -> £21 all in), it is Sommer Spirit cable. Arrived next day as well. Useful when changing between bass and EUB which I seem to have to do in both bands.

The cheap version is called "unplug the lead at the amp end", the deluxe version is something like this https://www.studiospares.com/studiospares-pro-neutrik-silent-guitar-lead-angled-jack-5m-593140.htm I find mine very useful and it works really well.

Have you thought about/tried using impulse responses rather than amp sims? I sometimes use a Sonicake IR loader pedal (cheap) to help shape my EUB sound, some of the free cab and amp IRs seem really good. I have reached the stage that most of the time playing live I just accept that the room acoustics, amount of audience, pa, volume etc. will eradicate any subtlety and nuance in bass tone so I just work on getting it sounding superb/excellent/good/adequate/less-than-crap/sh*te as best I can. Recording I just DI and let someone else sprinkle the magic fairy dust for a good bass tone. I have an admiration for guitarists and bass players who can hack effects pedals, I never cease to be amazed at our keyboard player with innumerable presets and who knows what. Me, I just plug it in and play, dinosaur ++.

I rate my fretless Chowny swb-1, TI flats very highly. Tend to use it rather than my fretless Corvette. Took a long time to find a used Chowny fretless. -
I like hard cases (Gator /Hiscox). A word of caution, some of them have sharp/rough edges on the hinges and by the handles. These can 'improve' your car seats (especially leather ones) no end. Duct tape is your friend.

If you were unlucky enough to get Araldite into the t-nut thread you may be able to clear it (carefully) using the correct size thread tap.

I am that bass player, bought a P bass new 1977 (student grants were amazing things). It was good if somewhat weighty. Just bought a Cort Action Junior s/h £100. With the benefit of 50 years of bass manufacturing improvement and my changing perspectives I am just amazed how good it is. It will be gigged as no1. There are many outstanding basses in the marketplace, at some point I will also have to offload mine (some good, some interesting and some tat) as age marches on. I have had the fun from them, the potential financial 'loss' due to marketplace slowness is not that great averaged over time. I have even give some kit away to 'worthy' recipients and my sense of relief was most welcome.

And closely following @JPJ , a close up image.

Bought a Hercules stand from John. Sadly the aircraft had sold the day before but the stand is very nice. Great communication, rapid arrival, excellent all round!

Stating the obvious and borrowing a song title, careful with that spindle sander @Beedster. Ferocious beast, all too easy to convert vast amounts of wood into sawdust :).

My tactic on these is G clamp them into the hole, making the hole as tight as possible. If you could start again, speaker chassis would have better clamping arrangement(s)....

@Dad3353 A good night out makes it all worthwhile. Sound quality is most impressive.

Chowny swb-1, ebony board, dots in the correct place, no dot at first fret position. Took me ages to find one then it appeared on bc £300 iirc. Another good option is the Warwick Corvette, ebony board, dots at 1,3 5,7 etc. My ash bodied one is very light weight, a pleasure to play. One went on ebay last week £500 ish from memory. You may be searching for a long time.

Bought a Schaller bridge from @Fionn. Excellent communications, very rapid arrival and really, really well packed. Top BCer, deal with confidence. Thanks.

Much good advice in the above posts One thing I have found is the need to sometimes adjust the treble side height depending on what the situation the bass is being used for. A balanced string to string setup for recording may require changing for live 'war' volume playing. Obviously this all depends on the bass and kit you are playing through and what you want to achieve.

I would go for the small notch at the ends of the nut (in the same way that frets are cut for a bound neck). Fiddly but less chance of serious damage when trying to slot the binding. More skilled (than me) operators may have other solutions. Quickly looking at jazz bass necks, they seem to be done like yours.

Inadvertently (stupidly) I consented to some cookies on another website whilst using non Adblocked device. The subsequent deluge of adverts and flooding of my email spam box were clearly related. Wasted some time unsubscribing from shi*e unwanted email ads. My fuss is about personal privacy and my data. Who knows what social media manipulation may follow from the organisations.
