This one is a fully hollow Takamine B10 ...
That is one gorgeous bass, now where do I find one?

Maple necked, sunburst body Precision copy parts bass. NOW £100

I have the object of your desire, an 85 G&L SB1, owned it since 1989. Yours looks very good. The G&L is well built, but so are many, many basses these days at sensible money. Why not put an MFD pickup in yours and there would not be much difference. I have a Kramer with a DiMarzio P bass pickup - the DiMarzio is not far off the MFD pickup and can be picked up on BC for not much. -
Just had my new Lamborghini Aventador delivered - negligible bootspace, but hey, it's a nice drive so will have my bass, amps & cabs delivered & set up onstage by a contractor as required..................
Not using the helicopter, how disappointing I had expected better

Cheapest place is here - BC. Get some used flats - TIs crop up regularly. My first set running at 8 years just fine. Nothing to worry about with used flats

Find one (dealer, friend), take bass case, try. Have done this in a different context buying a van, it is the Engineers 'in service' test.

I am pretty sure this was mine once - the 'silver' bolt heads on midrange are the giveaway plus the slight grill mark bottom left. The corner 'ding' was not me, it will be an easy DIY fix with woodglue and some clamps. I only moved it on to get a Dubster (sort of more of the same tone). It was (is) a great bass cab, you will not be disappointed - serious trouser flap potential.

Getting valve tone without big amps and glowing bottles
3below replied to Dickyc1981's topic in Amps and Cabs
...... try out lots of different amps until you find one you like. The only problem might be that what sounds good in a shop (and at home) may not stand up so well on a gig
Forgive the pun but that is very sound advice. It is also the combination of speaker cab and amp (stating the obvious). I found Peavey amp (Tour 700) much more to my taste (tighter, less wooly low end) than either Marshall VBA 400 or Sound City 120 with both of my Barefaced speakers. -
Has anyone ever taken a substantial break from playing?
3below replied to Veils's topic in General Discussion
About 10 years of no serious bass playing. Thought I was going to give up altogether with wrist problems. Magically this sorted and am playing again - probably better than ever (IMO lol). -
Too good to play, should be displayed as work of (industrial? production?) art. My DB neck has similar flame but nowhere near as deep and contrasting. What a great looking bass.
The drummer was about 21 - I used to teach him Maths when he was at school.
Dep drummer we use is same sort of age. He 'suffers' having been taught in school by the other three of us - he copes very well.

My young singer, 43 has a (now sadly departed) cousin Ciff Crockett who was playing drums till 100. Pretty amazing drummer - htttp://www.shropshirestar.com/entertainment/2014/02/02/shropshire-centenarian-cliff-drums-up-a-birthday-bash/ Some vids are on youtube as well - Severnside Jazz band. This sets the bar I suspect, so at 55 I am just starting and have a way to go (I hope).

Sadly not, I would love to find my 58 EB2 again, however it will be now way more than the £80 I bought it for in 1974. For that matter any EB2 at sensible money would do.

1982 / 83 Music shop in Banbury. SWMBO put the brakes on buying one of these, I also had some concerns, was it a lacquer crack or real crack in neck. I declined, at £75 it seems unreal now.

Having recently acquired an SG bass from a BCer I am very pleasantly impressed with the short scale. I have small hands and am really noticing the ease of it against my 34" basses. Pyramid golds seem to suit this bass well, good tension, no string flapping.
-
Excellent advice above, I had forgotten the 'stuffed' allen key effect - either the adjuster hex socket or the allen key could be rounded. This would be a 'good' result, both are vastly cheaper than the worst case.

Gorgeous Fender TV15 Bassman from crack converters
3below replied to gjones's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Lovely looking things. Never played one, but it has the vibe. At £202 with 5 days to run it I will be amazed if it does not reach serious money. -
how many turns have you given truss rod adjuster? If just turning and turning is there any resistance? if not, it sounds like stripped threads - bad news Plan A - Slacken strings off, unscrew truss rod adjuster - does it extract? If so check threads on adjuster and rod. If you are lucky both are ok. If both ok, grasp bass neck with one hand at nut, one near body / neck join. Apply knee to middle of neck on fingerboard and push gently - you may hear creaks and 'cracks', do not worry. This should re-establish concave setting of neck and put truss ros at correct starting position. Fit truss adjuster back in, tighten until some resistance. String up, check action, loosen strings, tighten truss rod slightly, etc etc until all is ok. If Plan A fails; Plan B start as as plan A. Check if truss rod thread OK and the adjuster is stripped (in an ideal world this is what should happen, the adjuster should be softer metal than the rod), replace adjuster and move to plan A. If Plan B fails; Plan C - truss rod thread stripped - seek luthier advice / help or new neck needed, whichever is cheapest. Hope you are lucky
...I've this dirt cheap Milestone that is a joy to play....
Likewise - mine came with a Hiscox case - I bought the case, bass was a bonus.
-
What do estimate the cost will be? Two suggestions: DI output and speakons. Looks the business, am sure it will sound the business - why did I sell my DR203 many years ago, I have no idea now.

This ugly duckling has become a swan (Warwick Fortress content)
3below replied to hamfist's topic in Bass Guitars
Don't worry, I used the potential wordplay to great effect. With a fortress, the upper horn is just the right shape too.
Beaten to the forterss / corvette horn line lol. Great refinish, good result. -
The age thing again.... having just taken early retirement at 55 I now have the time and freedom to get serious about music again. Pity I am too old in the view of some.
-
I like the look of it. Get a cheap Warwick Rockbass 5 stringer (ebony fingerboard so minimal wear rate).
-
Excellent communication and totally trustworthy. Rory is a pleasure to deal with.

Super guy to deal with, excellent communication and the strings arrived pdq. many thanks Kris
