1. Absolutely no help in dating it, but it does look a great thing. If the actual year is giving you great concern I would be prepared to accept the bass from you for a suitable fee my way
2. Excellent communication, good advice and the pickups arrived next day. Super deal, thanks you Simon.
3.
Hmmm... Not that easy methinks. You can simulate the sound of a particular amp, and it'll sound like your bass being played through whatever amp is being modeled. In this case you're trying to model the sound of a particular bass whilst ignoring the sound the bass is actually making. It'd have to involve analysing the sound being produced and reinforcing or substracting frequencies to a degree that would replicate the bass that is being modeled. All without any latency and without flattening individual variations due to technique. Doubtless it'll happen one day though.
I would analyse the sound and extract the fundamental (or possibly main harmonic) sine wave (or whatever function it is). Next stage would be add the distinctive harmonic content and envelope that each bass creates to the raw function. Latency etc. - yes this might be a problem with current CPU power, however CPU processing rates are only going one way This must be possible, Line 6 Variax started it.
4. Many interesting opinions above. I personally can not justify £3K upwards for a bass. 80% or 90% of the sound would do most of the time. In due course DSP will capture the Wal sound (and many others) to the degree that most of us will not be able to tell. The pedal should cost about £40, reproduces all the major basses (inc Mr Hall's famous bass), fretless, fretted and the big bonus DB tone. Bring it on ASAP.
5. I had a technician at University who was a superb craftsman engineer. Sadly he is long gone now. 'Men made it, so we can make it again'. Unless Wals have Unobtanium in the construction it must be possible.
6. Cloud Flare is a content distribution network. The basic idea is to distribute web serving over a network so that response times decrease. More info available on cloud flare site. The BC outages probably arise from Cloud Flare issues.
7. Surely a sticking 0 key. I have a 0 key that does not stick, early Toshiba L series, very collectible, not many left now
8. My G&L SB1 suffered weak E string and dead and live notes on G string. Part of the problem was strings with single core over bridge (have forgotten what they are). Regular strings helped, but final cure was good setup by good luthier. Bass is sorted now
9. As above, many best wishes to a musician who has given me (and others) countless hours of pleasure and inspiration.
10. Following earlier post: 18 instruments, one pa system, 3 bass rigs. Married for 34 years. Conclusion: have GAS, buy kit, lots of kit lol.
11. 1 castration 2 divorce 3 conjugal refusal 4 no new car 5 you buy that and I will go 6 you do not love me 8 you spend more time with the band than me, choose
12.
Yep. I've found them to be full of overly competitive types who are either 'better' than you in reality, and make sure you know it, or feel the need to be nasty if they're not. Last time I browsed one I came away knowing that I was probably going to be carrying some of those people off of a mountain in the future and they wouldn't be quite as full of themselves then...
There are mountains in leicestershire? Seriously this is a great forum, it is a testament to human goodwill and support.
13. Resist GAS
14. Amp is too loud, you are lucky I needed 700W (real watts lol) and BF Dubster to put drummer in his place. Try turning bass volume down.
15.
Warwick Rockbasses. Nuff said
Agree, small, light, perfectly formed and cheap s/h - how does £100 sound if you wait until a bargain appears. Quality is spot on.

17. Seems straightforward to me on several counts: You manufacture a product - one that will be handled by people who wash hands (if you are lucky), it is a bass so this is not unexpected. You are in an age where customer expectation of quality is high, we are used to Japanese, Korean, Chinese, German kit (cars, electronics, guitars and basses) You live in an age where the Internet makes it easy to show customer experience and product quality to the world. Business 101 here...... Kia car, secondhand, may cost £1000 more than a Ric. The warranty is 7 years. Go figure. Guess the paintwork only has gentle conditions to operate in. Free market, so free to take my money elsewhere. I think someone should take a look at what Chinese built guitars offer, quality is up there with both my 'premium' non Ric USA basses. My Chinese bass cost £150 s/h, it is 'perfect', top quality woods, ebony fingerboard. What price USA exclusive IP.
18. Can we have a picture of the binding and bleed sideways on? I did the Ric thing in my early 20s, it was blue. There is a very clear message for me about the support I would get if I unknowingly purchased a 'grey' import. Always good to see manufacturers standing by the quality of their products and letting that quality stand for itself with end users.
19. Bump, I will confirm the output of the G&L mfd p type is massive. It will also give you a very wide tonal range.
20. Roto Trubass - buy once, last a lifetime I have the original set still on my acoustic bass from circa 1980. Still compliant and sound good.
21. Your thoughts seem good, am impressed that you can ignore side markers, they would irritate me. You may have a 22 'fret' fretless neck rather than '21'. Try it and see What are you doing with the previous neck?
22. USA SB-2 or tribute SB2?
