  1. I've tried 10s 12s & 15s for upright over many years. 12s definetly work best on upright. But more important than any amp or cab is strings and pickup choice. Thats 80% of the sound.
  2. Highly recommended on upright bass. Only downside is the unit wont run on phantom power, its battery or mains adaptor only.
  3. A typical East European bass from around 70s is my guess. Looks like its had a neck repair at the body joint. The Polytone pickup was popular back in the day, if it still works its a miracle, theres not much interest in them as disigns have improved now. You can see similar basses for anywhere between £500 - £1200 but I doubt the higher priced ones ever actually sell. A good workhorse bass.
  4. Big Baby 2 is ideal on db IMHO. The tweeter level can be dialed to give you just the right amount of zing. There is no harshness when its set to higher levels. I would look for second hand though, they seem to go for around the 500 mark.
  5. The G70/G75 were discontinued, Something to do with failing a specific German R.F emissions standard.
  6. I have an older Tom and Will case with roller wheels, Ive never had an issue pulling my bass around the grim cobbled streets of northern mill towns. Nigh on 20 years, man and boy.
  7. Deadens the instrument the same as F'its do. Suppose its a bit more permanent than the Fits but it works for me.
  8. Double soundpost. I have the F.its and they do work. I recently tried a second soundpost on the bassbar side. Surprisingly good results. Plus its a really cheap solution.
  9. If you want a recomendation, the Revolution Solo from Upton Bass.
  10. The Band was pretty useless in my experience. Output gain was abysmal to the pount where I thought the pickup was broken...it wasnt. The only sounds it picked up was my body movement against the bass.
  11. Line 6... Ive used the G30, G75 & G10s With most of the common piezo pickups.. Underwood, Planet Waves, Revolution Solo etc. All the Line 6 systems work faultlessly when plugged straight into the p/up.
  12. Mark Kermode was in a skifflish band playing upright bass a long time ago..
  13. To the O.P. That ebay one was way over priced..it was made by a guy called Trevor Covney, hes on Facebook. Theyre less than £100 and come without any string grooves. Check with him how wide they are...
  14. The ui24 has 8 aux (monitor) outs plus main L/R. They all have individual feedback eliminators, Individual 30 band eq, Compression , gate. There are 2 virtual aux chanels plus 4 virtual input channels- get your head round those.. Its also a great sounding DAW interface & can record 20 inputs to seperate tracks on a usb stick. I could go on and on...
  15. Xr18 over Ui16 but Ui24 over Xr18. The ui16 has inferior mic pre amps to the Xr18 although there is an Xr18 Midas. The Ui24 has way better pre amps than the 16 and sounds the bollox. The Soundcraft Interface is much more user friendly and easier on the eye, thats what swung it for me. Whichever you choose an external router is a must.
  16. G70 here... theyre no longer for sale though.
  17. Ive used one of those tailguts.. they snap quite easily. If you put it in the groove, where it should be, it would make the bend almost 90 degrees, thats how mine snapped. I would get a different one if I were you.
  18. Not cheese but chicken. These guys are heavily influenced by poultry..
  19. Sounds like your man has read an old Ed Freidland tutorial book.. I remember that phrase from there, among others like a 'quick turnaround' & 'long turnaround'.. Just use your ears and whichever finger you want!
  20. Up until a couple of weeks ago..
  21. Not wanting to rub it in - pun intended - 'that' bass you mention has a very gloss finish compared to the Kays... not sure if nitro is available in gloss?
  22. Barefaced notblackfriday 20% off everything until end of 2nd Dec.. nice
