1. No no,I don't mean take the post out.the ball needs to not Come into contact with the Soundpost.all it's doing is damping The bass bar. Like squeezing the body between your knees
2. Seriously,£3.50 for a beach ball, what have you got to loose. Played on a hollow wooden stage on Saturday 300W amp turned up halfway,2ft from the vassals no hint of feedback.
3. A trip to toys r us will sort it. Buy a beach ball, put it inside the E side f hole and blow it up. It will damp the body without killing the sound. Make sure it doesn't touch the Soundpost or you get some Odd vibrations. I use a Mesa with a downfiring speaker and it works just fine
4. tell me more,Im oldham based,a few junctions away on the M62
5. Google "rockability amps".german company and sells embroidered and others, Heard good things of them
6. Played a private party last night and the DJ went through the band PA system. About half way through the night the tops on the Pa began to smoke accompanied by the burning smell of plastic -not good. The DJ was plugged into the desk via 2 track inputs(phono) from his mixer line outs. Is it possible that could have caused the crossovers in the tops to melt?
7. These are great-a big hit with steel guitar players. They were originally around in the late 40s I think and original ones go for silly money. They are built really well & a mate has gigged one for years no problem. Not sure how much use they are for bass though..
8.
What about that old ancient technique on the Double Bass..... 'Slap Bass'.... Is it still ok to do that? Thought i might check before i get all polled out. Garry
Slapping the old upright is great- the styles of music where its used most very often dont have drums, that can only be a good thing surely
9. Long shot here, but if the pick up is a Rev Solo 1 (not the latest version) would you consider selling it on its own?
10. 5 watts/head indoors,15watts/head outdoors is a guideline as Far as power goes,so I ve been advised,as a minimum.
11. Because its twice as much fun.
12. Hello from Manchester ,didnt know there were so many local people on here.
13.
I bought an amp from an online retailer just after christmas and it came with a two pin lead. They were very good though and I got a 3 pin as soon as possible. But I did think it odd.
The sales guy at Thomann said that its European Regulations to provide the relevent plug for the country of sale,so I presume that Germany uses the 2 pin. Never a prob-search Ebay in Hairdressing supplies ! there is a 2 pin to 3 pin plug that is a great solution--check the wives GHD straighteners they usually have one one
14. Just a note,if you get anything mains powered from Thomann,it will come with a 2 pin Euro plug fitted.
15. All of this may be true, but I have never experienced ANY interference through my G30,nor has it interfered with any of my other home electronics (mobile phone /laptop etc) in the 2 years since I got one. For that alone it gets my recommendation, apart from the fact that it is better than any other wireless I have had. FYI its the only system that has been succsesful with piezo pickups plugged straight into it-no buffer amp needed.
16. What about something like a THD Hotplate or Marshalls version .Plugs between amp and cabs, google it...looks handy.
17. What about changing the pre amp valves for some that break up At lower volumes
18. The main concern we have is getting a good mix to be played loud by DJ's, my opinon is that if there is too much sub bass in the mix it will not translate welll at louder volumes,so I would tend to go for a mix that may be a bit less bottom heavy. Or am I talking sh*t.
19. Thanks for the input folks input ,I should have mentioned that the final mix is in mono and the songs are 3 minutes each. We are going for a lo-fi sound overall but thats still an art in itself. all the recording was done using original ribbon mics from the 50/60s and no overdubs,we just want to retain the warmth of the tapes and avoid any nasty surprises. I think we may be able to get a test pressing but not get there for the cut.
20. Done some recording at a studio we are very familiar with soundwise, and have plans to put some of the results out on a 45,but have a few questions. I know its all subjective but how much can the studio mix change when it lands on the record? All the recording is onto analogue tape so would the sound alter that much when put onto vinyl? Also weve been told that putting 2 songs/side can affect the overall loudness of a record, due to the the grooves being closer together?? I realise that some eq can be done at the pressing stage so hopefully all issues can be solved at this stage. All opinions welcome.............
21. Prince Charles was once on the site until he realised it was a site for musicians and not anglers.
22. Thats a bargain, seriuosly good kit for the price.
23. I think its a good example of the shoulder cutaway to get that perfect height for the Mark King slapathon
24. I,m toying with the idea of changing the valves in my Mesa Walkabout, one because theyve been in there a while, two because I think I would prefer something a bit cleaner sounding. It only has 2 pre-amp valves(12ax7's) I think, and they begin to go into distortion around 1 oclock on the input gain and by 3 oclock its full on saturation. It seems as though there is a lot of gain there which I dont use because it gets too dirty. Any body know of any valves that would give me more clean range before things get too overdriven.??
25. Looked as though there were extractor hoses on some of the band saws to draw away the sawdust.Surprised at how much was done by hand and not machinery. Definetly some skill going on there
