4ohm Lightweight & powerful carriable cab for small-mid gigs
dave74200 replied to DanH71's topic in Amps and Cabs
I have a Genz neo 2x12 and whilst it is amazing and light, I wouldn't relish the thought of lagging it to gigs on buses. I was toying with the idea of an ashdown or markbass 2x10 before getting it but got this one as it fits in the car and pumps out some serious bass. If I were you if get a sansamp BDI and go through the desk. -
Hiya mate. I have a mibass 220 and it's fine for gigs with no PA support. I do however have a 4 ohm cabinet. I guess yours is 8 ohm? Getting another 8 ohm cab will make your load 4 ohm, thus getting the full power from the amp, as will using one 4 ohm cab. Hope this helps.

Hi there, i have a constant cut/sore on my middle finger of my right hand. I'm starting to give up playing with my fingers and use a pick all the time as it's really becoming a trial. Any tips or tricks to stop this happening? Cheers.

Ampeg SVT 2 pro owners.......how do you.........
dave74200 replied to donslow's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've been looking at rack bags as I figure it can be slung over the shoulder for transporting which may make things marginally easier but again, the side vented issues are a concern and I haven't found one with vents in the sides...........yet Thanks in advance
I'd love to see you sling an SVT 2 Pro over your shoulder. You'd probably be in A&E with a dislocation!! -
Ampeg SVT 2 pro owners.......how do you.........
dave74200 replied to donslow's topic in Amps and Cabs
I had an svt 2 pro for years and found the overheating thing didn't ever happen. After a gig you could've fried an egg in top of the flightcase but there were no side vents. I was told that a soft case or plastic case wouldn't be sturdy enough to support it's weight. They're just extremely heavy I'm afraid...... Hence mine getting sold!! -
I've got a six month old one and the DI is great. The problem was restricted to an early batch and long since rectified.

Hi folks, for sale or trade (Barry area) is my almost new OBT 500. Works perfectly and sounds amazing. The only reason I'm selling is because a new band forces completely different sounds so I need more flexibility. I will trade for an Ashdown ABM RC 500. Comes complete with box, manual and carry bag, as you'd receive from the shop. I'm prepared to post the amp if somebody would like to pay by paypal or transfer. You are more than welcome to come and try out at my home in Barry, South Wales. I bought the amp from Thomann for £432 in October so I'd say this is a more than fair price. Thanks for reading, Dave.

New amp day..........spend my money for me.........
dave74200 replied to donslow's topic in Amps and Cabs
I have owned a few Ampegs and would say the following: Svt 2 pro- awesome but too heavy and unreliable, had two different ones cut out mid gig and got a hernia trying to move it. Svt 4 pro- awful tone, hated it. Svt 3 pro- like a smaller less powerful 2 pro, very reliable and loud. People say they're underpowered but I never found that. You could however use your existing setup and buy a sansamp vt character pedal!! Not as much fun I know but sounds bloody close to an all valve Ampeg without all the negatives. -
Is there a safe way to trade an amp with someone that lives too far away to meet? I imagine both just sending the amp would be a bit worrying to both parties, or am I being prematurely distrustful?
Ufortunately Dave, you are very wong. The preamp tubes should have some time to run properly after turning on the amp. They need time to warm up to work at all. I have two tube preamps and one hybrid amp - none of them starts working immediately, they need time to warm up. I hade SVT-3PRO which needed approx 45 seconds to work after turning on.
I said 'in my experience'. Perhaps it's you that's wrong?
-
Pre amp valves shouldn't really need time to warm up in my experience. The valve probably needs replacing.

Yes mate. I bought mine about six months ago and have never had any issues going through PA systems with it. Have been very impressed. Wish I had a bloody crystal ball though and waited for this sale price!!
I've said before that a good 2x12 is a match for a 4x10, and a quality 2x12 will demolish an average 4x10.
Seems that way to me mate. Although I thought the svt 410 HLF was a highly regarded 410? This 212 seems to outdo it in many departments!
VTBass by Tech21
Definitely.

I have gradually downsized over the last two years from an 810, to 410 and now to a Genz Benz Neo 2x12. I got fed up with lugging big cabs around and expected there to be a compromise in tone and power, which i was prepared to put up with for the added portability. This Genz cab defies science. The singer of my band says it actually moves more air than my svt 410 hlf did. It sounds and feels amazing and I can pick it up with one hand. If anyone is contemplating downsizing, i'd say that if you get the right cab you won't look back.

Orange Terror Bass is awesome. Lovely tone and as said before, don't let the name put you off. I think it's a tone suitable for most music and only gets dirty if you want it to, probably in the same way your AD 200 does.

I have a Genz Benz Neo 2x12 which sounds thunderous but lifts like it's not got any speakers in it!
-
Hi all, I recently bought a terror bass from Thomann and it's not working properly. When driven, it creates an alien like noise that I can only describe as someone growling in a reverb chamber! It's under warranty but will take three weeks to fix or replace and it's already ruined three gigs for me now , and as the fault is intermittent I perservered hoping it was the electric in the venue or the extension cable etc... All these other factors have now been ruled out. Anyone got any advice on what I can do? I'm worried now that if I get a new one, it'll only last a month and crap out half way through a gig! Cheers for any advice, Dave.

I owned a USA 810 and a Vietnamese one, sounded both the same. Recently had a Vietnamese 410 HLF which was also awesome. Only sold as I've gone lightweight. Fed up after years of shifting heavy stuff about!!
-
I used an svt 2 pro through an 8 ohm cab and the power valves only lasted two gigs. It's not advisable, many do it but it should run 4 ohms maximum.

NOW WITHDRAWN........... Orange cabs FS/FT £500

I've recently bought a terror bass and it's unbelievable. How can that tone come out of that little box. Orange seem to possess a magical secret! It sounds better than the SVT2 pro I owned and that gave me a hernia!

Hi there. I have a jazz that was sunburst and then sprayed over with red and road worn. If I want to spray it black, is it best to sand down first or is it ok to just spray over the top? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks, Dave.
-
The 2 pro is better than the 4 IMO but it's ludicrously heavy.
-
I use mine with a 410 hlf cab and it's as loud as my svt 2 pro was. In many ways (after several gigs with the 3) I prefer it to the 2 pro. I figured it'd be a big compromise on tone for the decrease in weight but have been pleasantly surprised. Don't get me wrong, I loved the 2 pro also but found it really depressing having to call a mate to come round and help me move it every time I needed to. Ok I had it in a heavy rack case which in my opinion is required, but the weight was ludicrous.
