1.
Anything by Crashdown.............
Good enough for many of the world's current biggest bands ie. Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters, U2, Radiohead, Elbow, The Who......... But not you.
 2. Cheers both.
 3. Hi there. I recently bought the above pedal and was wondering what's the best way to use it? As a preamp in the effects loop or as a stomp box? Cheers for any help.
 4. They don't offer endorsements so the artists buy their own Ashdown gear.
 5. Another 'Ashdown cabs sound wooly' claim. Because of course, bands and artists like U2, Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Blockheads, Elbow, Pino, John Entwhistle, Paul McCartney, Pearl Jam etc.... Would use wooly sounding equipment wouldn't they. For the record, whenever I play through my ABM amp and cab, people are totally blown away. A reputable sound engineer in Cardiff said it was the best bass tone he'd ever heard. Too many people on here jumping on the bandwagon I feel.
 6.
It wasn't chalk and cheese tonal differences between ABM and MAG... they were both wooly! I felt that the ABMs tended to hold together more whereas the MAG sounded like it was running out of headroom and wasn't far off it's limit. Just talking about the 2 4x10s as it isn't fair to compare the 8x10, though to be fair the 2x10 was an early ABM combo it was probably the best matched of them all. From which you could deduce that you need to consider which amp you are using when comparing the cabs (hasten to add I did use the same amp with the ABM/MAG 4x10).
7. Hi there. For sale is this great cab. Awesome bottom end and tone and yet so small and portable. Tip top condition, speakers all perfect, only ever used with matching ABM 500 head. Bought for rehearsals but very rarely rehearse so the cab is barely used. I'm based in Barry near Cardiff.
 8. Where you based mate?
 9. Gotta Ashdown ABM 4x8. Awesome power and sound but very small and portable.
 10.
Dave let it go mate, you'll give yourself an ulcer. We all have stuff we like (check out my post on the second page of this thread which to my mind sums it up), and start a thread about something that you're not pathologically obsessed with C
I'll let it go when everyone else does. It's a bit one sided if I have to shut up and still read of barrage of others telling me their opinions. Some of which are a load of embarrasing cobblers. Not you by the way. I can tell the guys who know their stuff apart from the little know nothings who are constantly chirping up to tell me to piss off!
 11.
i think its time to let this one die now, as it should have done around page 5
SO WHY ARE YOU STILL TUNED IN BRA?
 12. Watched Blur 'the singles' gig on Sky Arts last night. What was Alex James using? A Stingray into an SVT 2 Pro with 8x10 'fridge'. But hey, what does he know! He sounded awesome by the way, but the amp was probably off or just a cardboard cut out of it just for show. Like many have told me, he was probably just going straight into the mixing desk through a £100 di pedal.
 13.
I do care about tone and power. That's why I won't touch a valve amp.
No, you're right mate. Ampeg SVT's are total sh*te. You've converted me and i'm going to sell mine at a car boot sale for a tenner. It propably won't sell though cos it's such a load of crap. Perhaps I'll just give it away to some 'fool' who likes having a really bad tone.
 14. Anyway all. I'm off now to think of another thread to start! Thanks for all your 'friendly' comments. It's been a blast but like all good things, must surely come to an end.
 15.
All I can say, is well done Dave, that was some entrance. Slate is clean now as far as I am concerned because it did brighten up my day..
Cheers man.
 16.
I don't know about that... I would personally ban all myspace band websites... they DO ming
Nice profile pic. She's certainly like my big rig!
 17.
It's all that strumming did it
ooh naughty!
 18.
He'll probably tell you to get a lighter amp
No, it is down to playing. Many players get it apparently but like I said, there's always a laugh in it for ya!
 19.
I get it Dave, your great sound is down to Ampeg, Precision, and your strumming technique? Perhaps it's the strumming that brings out the best in the Ampeg? Had you explained that earlier we might have understood your point
Yep, seeing a physiotherapist now actually. Not as funny as you may think, but thanks for having a laugh at madical conditions, you're a gent.
 20.
Stop playing the victim, sunshine. What do you let little clueless midgets with cheap amps annoy you? They aren't a gang, that's ridiculous! Try to get some perspective and realise this thread has been hilarious, whether you meant it to or not. Everyone has to justify their choices and some do that more vociferously than others. Personally, I would detest the limitations using ANY amp would impose on me, that's why I don't use one. I simply can't perceive any advantages to them, except for a bit of stage monitor in small venues. I think big powerful amps will be a thing of the past within twenty years, they are already completely redundant. They are more of a visual choice than anything else.
Fair do's!
 21.
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry928165
And? I realise that people can see my other posts. I have never said that I didn't try many other options before going back to the SVT.
 22.
Dave - was your main point supposed to be "once you find your sound, stick with it, don't mess about trying other gear because it's lighter/more reliable because it'll never reproduce your sound"? Or was it literally "all amps are sh*t except ampegs"? Either way, a most enjoyable thread.
It was once you've found your sound, stick with it yes. The grass isn't always greener etc.. I stated why I sold my original SVT head, too heavy! To me though, it's worth the weight.
 23. Anyone who knows their onions will have heard a Precision through an SVT 2 and 8x10 cabinet. That's what it sounds like, the real deal!
 24.
So come on then Dave, let's have the chance to hear your awesome sound then and make up our own minds? You play to crowds of 10,000 there'll be some evidence of your existence somewhere, point us towards it please? C
Obviously not mate. Why would I want to take you to my band's website so you can go and write what a prat I am on there? If I was going to lie, I'd have said 80,000 wouldn't I!
 25.
I read the OP as a harmless bit of fishing of the sort I used to do all the time on football boards. If I had roadies and stuff I'd be standing in front of a row of big black fridges for sure.
An example of the good practice I refer to.
