So, I’m thinking about a new head, Class D with a valve pre....
danbowskill replied to Wilco's topic in Amps and Cabs
I highly recommend markbass tte 500 (I had the 800,way to loud) if you are after a true valve sounding head with thump.Awesome head. Think there was one in the for sale section for 400 notes. -
My one only came on when the amp was hot ...... not till after a couple of hours practice mind and even then it wasn't very loud.

Saw this peavey t max head for a steal at £111 so thought I'd give it a wizz ,350w at 4ohms 500 2ohm with solid state and tube pre amp. ...... combined with my VT pedal it's blooming excellent! Them old peavey's have a he'll of a punch. Best £ I've spent

Nice!the classic for a reason.I really miss my Cl rig ( nowt like it) I used to boost the mid and high (selector in the middle) drop the low to a quarter with ultras engaged and it was tone heaven! hope it serves you well dude..I dont miss the weight though 😉

I liked the reissue, but this sounds perfect for me 🙂

They should have labeld the "compression" knob Gain on that orange amp imo....... because to me that's exactly what is sounds like it does. It certainly doesn't need a gain knob

"We offer the best price".... clearly haha

I've never had a ABM head , but I can definitely get that ampeg clank out of it.
-
There doesn't seem to be all that many reviews around tbh, but having that control of my eq and taking that the compression acts more like a light Gain/grunt control sold it for me

This amp caught my attention when they came out, I then forgot about it ....until Andertons had a killer black Friday deal on a few ( all gone now ).so I couldn't resist ;-). I have a feeling it's going to be discontinued? It's my first go with a parametric eq of any kind( bar ampeg mid selector) ......and I love it 🙂 The amp is clear, bright and very mid growley......and God damn it is very LOUD! should have gone for the 300w version in hindsight. Only had the 1 jam with it but the sounds are very promising.Tons of tweaking to be had.

I've been thinking about getting that exact bass after Christmas ( it looks beautiful), but not a hell of a lot of reviews around. Be great to know your thoughts? I know its a lot of bang for your buck. Cheers

No not £829......but I've played amps costing more that sound no where near as good.i wouldn't begrudge paying that new though. I'm sure there are awesome class D's out there lesser priced that might boast better specs?I'm new to all this lightweight scene, only played a RH450 and ampeg pf500 before.but having played valves most of my bass life I can tell you it certainly feels like a big glass+ iron head
-
Tbh I only gave it it's first blast at practice yesterday ( where my cab lives) so not a truly in depth mess around with it as I'd of liked.the Vt has always been my safety net sound with my band after playing Ampeg for so long, I'm sure with a bit more playing I could probably loose it?....it just felt like a wonderful tube amp to me ,:-).

It was a shot in the dark with this head as there is not many reviews or demos around....for my kind of style anyways ( drop C pick playing) This Michel leauge demo is a smooth example of the 500.

I've recently received this markbass tte800 in a trade.. In the past it's mainly been tube amps for me, I've had a couple of SVT cl's Orange Ad200 and of late a fender superbassman. After getting my last amp(GK 1001) trying to downsize weight,I sorely missed that tube tone "heft"....so i was convinced I had to have a big valve job again. I was offered the markbass so I thought I'd give it ago since I've never had a lightweight class D head ( late to the party).....and Crikey it's bloody wonderful 🙂 It really does sound and feel like a tube amp...heft,touch,punch...the works! and God it can get stupid loud if wanted. It reminds me of the Orange tube head in tone with a little less gain on tap but with more punch. After Adding a little blended tech21 Vt to the mix .... this is feeling like it might be my perfect amp. I don't know why there isn't more love for these? I get the minimal eq on it might be a put off, but I can get a fair few different tones out of it.....i imagine with a active bass the simplicity would be a plus? It's a winner 🙂
