Will the Bass Soul Food do a 'No One Knows' tone?
danbowskill replied to 1976fenderhead's topic in Effects
Buy the used one in the FS section ,they seem to sell well if you don't like it. I thought it was fab at the slight grit thing. -

Iv'e always used a KiOgon loom with dimarzio model P pickups in my P bass's . get a lot of tonal variation (for a P) ....quality all the way with his looms :-)

I know it's clique but this is quite a transparent and natural sounding distortion. not needed at the moment. In great condition boxed with paper work. looking to trade for a pork loin ,Green rhino or BB pre amp

not quite NBD: Matt Freeman Precision to Jazz conversion
danbowskill replied to mcnach's topic in Bass Guitars
I *think* the CV 60s and 70s are very similar. 70s has block inlays and an ashtray cover. Neck is less baseball bat like than older Precisions but I'm usually a Jazz man. I really like it, it's quite slim whilst not as narrow as a Jazz.
I have both of these basses and the Matt has a slightly bigger feel to the neck (more rounded) -

Although Spencer from 3leaf built the darkglass pedals in the USA ....this is not a direct clone of one!as he has tweeked this to suit what he felt was better EQ points. only had it a couple of weeks but willing to take £20 hit on it as i have my eye on something .......£180 posted to your door BUMP :-)
That made me chuckle! You should try the Vintage Ultra, gets VERY close to B7K flat attack tones. It doesn't get as metallic, but certainly covers a very broad range. I can see its already in the classifieds, it was the only pedal you were keeping 3 days ago alongside a Cog!
Meh! gas is a fickle old thing :-D i should have said it was based on my use of the older Darkglass models (not tried their more recent ultra's ) and to my ears the Pike definitely has different core tones. I'm sure you probably could get most of it with the new DG peds? Because iv'e cranked it in the Classifeds so quick doesn't mean that its not that good or contradict what i said about it, Imo its still a fantastic quality sounding preamp........................ a realization that my gas to find an extra sound that my Amp really doesnt need is the only problem ;-)

I have finally come to the long winded conclusion that i don't think i need a preamp . I have been through the usual suspects over the years...... sansamps,Vt bass's, Darkglass variants and many more! and in complete honesty the Pike XL has trumped them all in sound for me , it is beautiful and open sounding . if you skip past all the Drama associated with this and Darkglass there is a lengthy thred on talkbass (pages 20 onwards talk about how excellent it is) http://www.pikeamp.c...ducts/vulcan-xl A serious pedal that has its own awesome stamp sounds (please don't turn this into a ethical comparison whathaveyou thred). Recently purchased From Andy http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry3149961 After the same as what i paid £200.....now£190 .............£180!!posted to your door. Great condition but no original box. Happy to Answer any questions and as always open to trade offers

New addition in the Pike Vulcan , with all the 3 leaf/ darkglass drama aside this pedal is absolutely fantastic. It definitely has a sound of its own (having owned multiple versions of Darkglass pedals) . for those looking for that sound inbetween the b7k and vintage. a space left for a cog octave.............but after seeing sk8's new custom cog im thinking of getting shot of all (but the pike)and getting similar :-)
cant wait to read a review from gigging conditions and also i'd love a comparison against some of the big old boy SS / Valve amps. Darkglass say this amp is a no compromise amplifier so my fingers are crossed it stacks u well. Not used a class d that even compares to my SVT as of yet so lets see if this comes close.
Dito, i am getting some major gas for this ......but boy do i love my svt.
