I'am a Geordie!, right about the size.
That's why we play Bass. A G**tar looks like a flipping toy stuck in front of us! -
It must have been a good'un. It's not there now. (Well, not on that link, anyway)
hi all. i spotted a pj copy in the local crack converters. It has "AXE" on the headstock and thats about it. I cant find any info on the web about it,any of you guys know if its worth a trip back to town to have another look. thanks in advance.
Stay in the house and save the bus fare/petrol. I got one of these piles of poo in the '80's, simply to get "back on the road" with a Glen Miller type Band. When I moved on, and actually had to learn to move my fingers a bit more, I got rid of it. I couldn't get a real PJ Precision quickly enough. I sold it for £20 to a kid who "wanted to learn Bass". One month later, he gave it to his kid brother, and bought a "decent" copy. 2 months later, the kid brother threw it in a skip!

I quite like it.......... Don't worry, I lied! -
I don't know what happened there. It was supposed to have "youtube" surrounded by the square-shaped brackets at the beginning, and "/youtube" surrounded by the square-shaped brackets at the end. Flaming computers!
Ahh, the magic of youtube! Digging the vids! Actually, this is me on guitar, the bass ones have never been put on youtube No idea how to embed the clip, tried the other day with one, failed miserably! For RUSH fans only, I suppose. http://youtube.com/watch?v=MxqIVtHPCgA
Take the bit after the "=" sign. In your case, it will be MxqIVtHPCgA. Stick after it. Sorted! There you go.

What are the chances that this isn't going to work? I hate computers! Good God, it worked! I'm not the clever one, though. Watch the Drummers "catch" at the end.

Some of us don't have the option. Before Health and Safety cottoned on to loud noises being rather detrimental to your ears, I worked for a LOT of years without earplugs. I can't hear an unplugged Bass well enough to hear if my technique is slipping, so I plug in every time. I have a crap practise amp, (as postulated in an above post) but all it's there for is to let me hear the notes I'm playing, and HOW I'm playing them, not "Get My Sound." I leave that until I get to a Gig, and EQ for the room I'm playing on the night. Just as an after thought. A very good friend of mine took his brand-new Bass (which shall remain nameless-I am flaming nobody) straight from a professional set-up by a Luthier to a Gig. On plugging in, we were both surprised to hear a stunningly loud crackle (poor soldering) and a rather annoying fret buzz around the 9th fret. These two noises made the Bass unplayable for that night, and he had to resort to his 'Old Faithful.' Ten seconds plugged into an amp would have saved him a lot of embarrasment, so practising plugged in seems to be a nice way of checking for any 'issues' your pride and joy might develop over its playing life. Just my two penn'orth.
Having spent some time at a local music festival this weekend the overall PA sound was pretty good for all the bands - very clear and controlled. But, it started to irk me a bit after a while that regardless of who was playing bass and whatever they were using it always sounded the same - a lot of bottom and probably very compressed and totally lacking any individuality. Is this a common problem - you strive for your favourite tone then end up sounding totally different out front?
This is one of the main reasons I bought a wireless setup in the first place. That way, I can wander across to the desk during sound checks, and have a word with the sound guy. When they are stuck mixing different bands, like most of us, they will go for the "Easy Option". A bottomed-out, compressed sound needs the least attention, and "well you can hear it" and "you sound as good/bad as everybody else" are a couple of stock replies. Cigarettes, cans of beer, and jokes seem to get you a better sound. I mean, they're human beings, the same as us, and spending a little bit of time acknowledging their existence, instead of just shouting obscenities from the stage (happens a lot) goes a long way to getting the sound you want. If you're JUST a member of the crowd, you're easily dismissed as a 'troublemaker' or a 'p*sshead' so you have little or no influence on his decisions.
Same here. I have some spare leads, a few basic tools.
Of course, those few basic tools mean you have to stop in the middle of the Set, strip your Bass down, repair whatever's wrong, and then carry on as if nothing happened. Not very realistic, is it? Even brand new Basses have been known to 'die' without warning, and there's nothing looks more professional than just grabbing your spare Bass and carrying on. Sods Law dictates that a perfectly reliable instrument will become unreliable at the most important time of your life, (or even just in the middle of your solo ) and that is when all the "Why bother with a back-up?" and "You must be pessimistic" jibes from your Band-Mates are answered in one fell swoop. I have been gigging for over 40 years (yes I'm that old!) and in all that time, I have only had my main Bass let me down three times, but the cheap stand-by kept the Gig going, the Punters dancing, and everybody else smiling. p.s. and a second hand Crate Powerblock in my Leads case. Any sound is better than nothing!

My Wife's a keeper. The Guitarists girlfriend was moaning at a gig, about how often he had to rehearse, gig, etc., and the Wife took her to one side. (I listened! ) She said "When you met him, he was a Musician. Before he met you, he was a musician. If you ever leave him, he'll be sad, but he'll be a sad musician. Always keep in mind that the musician part is non-negotiable, and you'll get along fine. She doesn't know I heard her, but she's chuffed that I'm fitting her Bathroom Suite this week, with NO complaints!
