I bought a set of pickups from Andy, and they arrived exceptionally quickly, well packaged and exactly as described. He even threw in the wiring and pots for free! Stuck them in my back-up Bass and they worked perfectly. I would recommend him without hesitation.

Aren't all bass players into Funk and Reggae???
BigAlonBass replied to TheGreek's topic in General Discussion
Don't take this the wrong way (Naturally, somebody will!...) but I find a few Bass Players have very selective hearing. They listen to a song, of whatever genre, and only seem to concentrate on the Bass Line. If the Bass is brilliant, the song must be. However, there are some out there, myself included, who like the 'whole' sound of a piece of music, and if the Bass Line is excellent, well that's a bonus. Because Funk and to an extent, Reggae, feature prominent Bass parts, then the slightly selfish attitude of some of us thinks instantly "I'd love to play that" which in turn means it must be good. I've played songs with absolutely rubbish Bass parts in the past, but thoroughly enjoyed the experience, because I've been part of the ensemble performing it to Joe Public, who in turn seemed to enjoy themselves. As a case in point, Pino ALWAYS plays brilliantly to my way of thinking, but he's worked for people who (in my opinion only) turn out pile after pile of sh**. Nothing can detract from his performance or skill, but he's part of something I don't enjoy, so I can't listen to it. The same goes for a lot of Funk Bass Players-brilliant at what they do, but the music is the finest aid to insomnia that I know of personally. I'll get my flame-proof overalls on now, and nip off to listen to a bit of.......well, that would be telling, wouldn't it? -
Wrap your cable around one of your speaker handles before plugging it into your amp.
.....and your p*sshead of a vocalist (at the time) stumbles across the stage, tangling your cable round his legs, doesn't stop floundering, and pulls your stack over!. I bought an AKG wireless set-up (after I'd punched his lights out) joined another Band, and have had no problems since.

Bassist and Guitarist Needed for Genesis Cover Band
BigAlonBass replied to superjx10's topic in Bassists Wanted
Well, I play bass guitar, love Genesis, live near Basingstoke, and work in Southampton. Don't know what you mean by bass pedals though ?
Those things that Geddy Lee and loads of other people play, when they need to keep the Bass line going with their foot, whilst playing another instrument. (The kind of thing you find on old organs) Google 'Roland Bass Pedals' for examples. -
He uses a plectrum on that bit when he's playing live. Not a clue about the original recording, though.

Sorry, but the phrase "un-original, thieving talentless b*stards" has always tripped lightly off my tongue.

Tuition - what was your approach to learning
BigAlonBass replied to Bilbo's topic in General Discussion
Shared learning experience for me. My Dad introduced me to an old Double Bass Player, who wanted to branch out on Electric Bass. He taught me a lot, for the chance of acclimatising himself to the old Hofner Professional I had at the time, and I got a lot of time on his Double Bass. He also found me a massively powerful 20 watt Fenton-Weill combo for £6 (well, it was 1967) and I used it at all my Youth Club gigs. He also gave me a great deal on his first Precision when he changed to playing a Jazz Bass. -
When I think of all the good time that's been wasted, having good times." Good Times by The Animals. (Well, it made ME think all those years ago!)
Not sure if this is right section but looking at wireless system for my bass. Any comments or advice on best option without spending silly money. I've heard you lose some of your tone ? Not on the newer stuff. Even on the older stuff, I just added a bit of Bass to the EQ. Do they suffer from interferance. Once again, not on the newer stuff. No more Taxis on-stage! Recommended makes / models ? My Wife bought me an AKG system for my Birthday, from Sound Control online, without knowing anything the first thing about wireless systems. She just picked "Wireless for Bass". It's brilliant! cheers Dave
Detune the whole Band to Eflat without telling him. He'll think his voice has suddenly improved!

I never knew he played bass for Rick Astley!
BigAlonBass replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
Yet another wonderfully famous Bass Player that I don't recognise...... This is becoming a habit on here. -
Here's a (probably) silly question:- I have a Peavey Max 700 Amp with 2 speaker outputs. I have 2 x 8 ohm cabs and 1 x 4 ohm cab. If I 'daisy chain' the two 8 ohm cabs to one output, and the 4 ohm cab to the other output, is it delivering 4 ohms through each output? Like I say, probably a silly question, but I could never get my head round the Maths for multiple speaker combinations, and I just wondered if it was do-able for an on-stage Rig. The Peavey goes down to 2 ohms, so hopefully it won't be any lower than that, if I've got it wrong.

Where's the "under £100" section? Both of my 'Pub' Basses cost less than that!

People keep writing this, and I've never seen it done.
I sometimes wonder what I'm paying for.
The one and only time in the future, when some drunk falls over your gear, hurts or kills themselves, and immediately blames you for their stupidity. Case in point:- Friends of mine were playing in a Club - Pisshead knocks the Lighting Stand over, hurts three people in the audience. PLI paid out thousands and thousands of pounds-my friends paid £20 extra on their Premium the next year.
I can't get the link to work, either from home or from work. Anyone else having trouble?
Sorry, no. It's only you.

But......it's two different Basses. One's right-handed, one isn't. Either that. or the divvy has reversed the second photo.
