Funny how some people still think Jay Kay is Jamiroquai Jamiroquai is the band's name, Jay Kay is the vocalist. But I get what you mean. I'm a HUGE Paul Turner fan, I've even bought my '66 partly because of his sound. I met him years ago and it turned out we brought both our basses. On the left my bass, on the right his.

Hooray! For the first time in 8 years there's going to be a new album and tour for Jamiroquai! Can't wait to see those guys live again. I'll be getting tickets for the Amsterdam show. 4 UK shows have been announced in Glasgow, Manchester, London and Birmingham. All in December 2025. This was Jamiroquai's last tour:

It's not mine but this is for sale here in the Netherlands and I'm sooooooo tempted. Fender CS 1960 gold sparkle.

Pretty difficult to have stock or old foto's of a custom order, right?

What's the best stand for a Jazz Bass?
BassAgent replied to EssentialTension's topic in General Discussion
I've been using this on all my basses for years now. Excellent stands. -
Poah, those are both gorgeous! I'm not a big fan of the "standard" goldtop JCS but these...poah. Very nice.

I think it's a Norwegian blue then.

It's All About the Mods! (Show/Tell Your Modded Basses)

This is my 2013 Sterling Ray34CA, of which only the body, bridge and preamp are still original. The pickup is a Nordstrand MM4.2, the nek was custom built for me by a Dutch luthier and I've replaced the not very pretty tortoise pickguard with a black one. I'm planning on replacing the preamp too. And then there's my 2001 Fender Standard Jazz fretless, with a Gotoh 201 bridge, De Gier prototype pickups and a black pickguard: I've also replaced the pickups in 3 of my other basses, but that isn't very visible so for me doesn't count as an actual modification. Just an improvement. -
NBD: something I thought I'd never do (Stingray content)

It's sooooo sparkly❤️ -
I had it built buy Peter Boekholt here in NL

Bought a very very sparkly Sterling Ray34 yesterday:
-
And, as of yesterday, two Sterling Ray34s:
-
I'm a Jazz Bass guy. I like Fenders. I like plain finishes, not too flashy. I like rosewood fretboards. I like passive basses. So, why not buy a Sterling Ray34 with a roasted maple neck and a blue sparkle finish?
-
It reminds me of some slabs of macassar ebony I've seen. And it's killer!
-
Couldn't resist. I bought it.
-
I've found a blue sparkle Ray34 So that's what I'm hesitating about: do I get that and risk the chunkier neck, or wait a month or more for the white 24?
-
Thanks again! Buuuuut for VAT reasons I'm planning on buying a new one.
-
Thanks! I've seen that. But of all colours, I really don't want a sunburst😅
-
Yeah I was also looking at the 24 in white, but that is very hard to get by here in NL, whereas the Ray34 is available in blue sparkle. And who wouldn't want a blue sparkle bass?
-
I'm considering purchasing a Sterling Ray34. I've borrowed an EBMM SUB a while ago and found the neck to be too chunky for my hands, as a Jazz Bass aficionado. Does anyone have experience with both basses, and can tell me something about the difference between the two?
-
As said by a previous poster: this is very common in big band land. I've done quite a few rehearsals with the funk big band my brother is the drummer for, without being paid (mind you, I am a professional bass player). If it's on a week day, not too far away and I don't have to prepare anything: sign me up. If I have to study new material or drive over 30 minutes: you'd better pay. Sitting in with that particular band got me quite a few sit-in gigs with that band afterwards, so it did also help in getting more paid gigs.

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2024?
BassAgent replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Hands down the best purchase I did this year was my Lakland USA Joe Osborn 5: The best five string Jazz I've ever played, except for maybe the odd Stenback. It outplays Celinders, Sadowskys and every other boutique Jazz. Worst purchase? A couple of XLR-jack cables for my new Adam monitor speakers. Why worst? They were the wrong kind. -
Next Thursday I'll finally see CELESTE live. French sludge/black metal band. I adore the latest two records by this band and can't wait to finally see them perform live.
-
Awesome! I know the feeling of "the one that got away". It's so awesome to see that bass back on your wall or in its stand again.
