1. I agree with KK, probably a Multivox or something related.
2. So I bought a Fender MIM Jazz bass about 14 years ago. I bought it new, but had the brilliant idea after a year or two to replace the pickups. Bought a set of Fender CS60 pickups (I thought), installed them and played with those pickups for a long time, no prob at all. A year or two ago, one of the pickups gave out so I went to my fav bass shop to have it repaired (turned out to be a loose wire). and the guy asked me: "What pickups are those?" So I said: "Fender Custom Shop, why?" So he shook his head and said: "Well, these are not Custom Shops for sure. They're not even Fender pickups. No idea what they are..." I had the pickups replaced by Lollars today (amázing pickups by the way) but the guy who did that job for me had no idea what pickups were in my bass. Went to a luthier for a refret: he also had no idea. Thought they were cheap. Maybe anyone here knows? The coils are glued in the covers, so no way to get them out. Funny thing is you can move the magnetic poles back and forth a bit.
3. Oh cool! I didn't know them. But what would be the difference between these and the somewhat cheaper ánd better available Antiquity pickups? I thought those were wound to the specs Seymour rewound Jaco's pickups...
4. I've owned this gem for about 15 years now: It sounds pretty decent. About 12 years ago I installed new pickups that were sold to me as Fender CS60 pickups, but two years ago I found out they're not. They're not even Fenders. I don't know what they are but they're ok. However, I think the bass can do a lot better. There's too much hum when using only the bridge pickup and I miss depth and low end in my sound. Now as a Jaco fan (as one is supposed to be) I have that sound in my head, but with a little bit more low end. The question is: except for copper foil in the cavities, which pickups to choose? The competitors: -Aguilar 4J-60 -Fender CS60 -Seymour Duncan Antiquity -Aero Type 3 -Lindy Fralin Or anything I've missed...? Oh, and a double check: the neck pickup on my bass is 92 mm, bridge 94. Does that correspond with standard Fender dimensions? I've read somewhere that the MIM basses can have different sizes (neck and bridge pickup same width and so on).
5. Hehehe none! I was kind of at the back of the stage, plus it was a wedding so everybody was caring about the bride and groom
6. Actually, it is I was subbing with that band, they called me a few days before the gig and I had to check out and transcribe 2 60 minute sets, with many medleys. I can't remember all that
7. My rigs this weekend: My face using it: That OC-2. That Moog. That amp. What a machiiiiiine
8.
The Aggrolites. Thank me later.
YES! The Aggrolites are great.
9.
Marley is widely regarded as 'white man reggae' - he was packaged and sold very much in the fashion of Rock musicians back then.
This is only partly true. Especially the early Marley stuff (and when he was still "in" the Wailers with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer) isn't like that. It's only from the solo albums (mostly from Natty Dread onwards) that a lot of "white" guys were hired to make the albums sound more rocky and fit for the American and European market. But check out the early versions of Stir it Up and One Love (which are actually more ska-oriented songs) and you'll here a lot of Skatalites in there. As a matter of fact, most of the old Wailers stuff is accompanied by the Skatalites.
10. My fav albums: The Congos - Heart of the Congos Prince Fatty - Supersize and Survival of the Fattest Mighty Diamonds - I Need A Roof Lee Perry - Super Ape and Return of the Super Ape Max Romeo & The Upsetters - War Ina Babylon Ini Kamoze - Ini Kamoze --> Sly & Robbie at their best Third World - 96 Degrees In The Shade Third World - Journey To Addis
11. Up next on the list: D'Arcy James Argue's Secret Society - next Thursday Damian Marley - in August Trentemøller - in September Meshuggah - in November Blimey, this is actually a quite good cross section of my musical taste. Ambient, reggae, metal and jazz.

This lot has a good chance of staying for a while. Picked up the JC-50 (from 1983) yesterday for €200
15. Maybe next year before the show
16. The stable seems to find my settee rather comfortable. They keep taking my place.

18. It still surprises me how I get to stay out of all those pics every year. But cool pics
19. Bought this last Thursday. Surprising versatility!
20. You mean the Rikkers Treeline? Ferdinand had it with him last year as well, I remember it being light and having a very versatile sound. Really cool bass.
21. Ooohhh yes, that Remington Steele is an amazing instrument...
22.
Whew! Finally got back to Bristol last night at 22:30 after another very long day at the London Bass Guitar Show. It was great to see some bass chatters (both the lanyard wearing ones, and those that were incognito). It was amazing the positive feedback we received from pretty much everybody. Even those that thought it wasn't "their thing" still had nice things to say. For those that came and tried one of our basses - Thanks. Hope you enjoyed the show. Biggest thanks however goes to Basschatter "Romeo2" who volunteered to help me and covered the stand when I couldn't. Thanks a million dude!
I was actually really surprised by the quality of your basses! Great "ploink" sound, just as I like it in a hollowbody bass.
23. I was there yesterday and had a great day! I hung out at the Eich stand mostly and was amazed by the new amps ánd the fantastic basses Gerald Marleaux makes. I fell in love with this baby... I spoke to a few Basschatters I think, but sorry for not remembering everybody Biggest surprises for me basswise were Stonefield (weird looks but sound great!), Oliver Lang, Overwater and Ellio Martina. Especially Ellio's basses really put a huge smile on my face... If anyone has any video or photo material, I'm most curious!
24. I'm already in London, so if anyone wants a beer tomorrow night or knows a good place to have one, please let me know
