1. I've seen Bona many times, first time in 2002, around the time of his first solo album. I love his playing and composing, but the last few years I've skipped some of his concerts and haven't even kept up with his most recent albums. TBH, I think he's repeating himself a bit too much lately... His solos have become predictive and especially when he plays with his own band his shows tend to get a bit theatrical and uninspired. The best show I've seen him do was at North Sea Jazz a few years ago, when he did an impro set with Bobby McFerrin and Cyro Baptista. He did some of his well-known licks (he always plays a bit of Dina Lam and Mike Stern's Still There) but it was amazing to see those three guys just having fun improvising. Haven't seen his Cuban project yet, it's supposed to be very good.
2.
Unless it was strictly for studio use, I'd take patch memories over any supposed superiority of sound. As someone who struggled using non-programmable synths in the early 80s, I have no time for even simple synths that don't have programmable memories for the sounds.
I can see your point, which is one of the main reasons I went for the Sub Phatty and not for e.g. the Minitaur. The Minitaur has presets but you can't see which one you're using. But I've fiddled with both the Voyager and the Model D, and I find the knob layout of the Model D way easier to understand.
3. Yes, I do think that The speed knobs are cool!
4. I think the chrome knobs look a bit cheap.
5. Gonna see death metal legends Morbid Angel, Marduk, Krisiun, Macabre and others at a festival next month. And then comes November: Fink, Bonobo and Queens of the Stone Age within a week. Can't wait.
6.
How does your ear learn to "understand" music.? was it the lyrics.?
Not at all, I don't really listen to lyrics. I don't know what it was but all of a sudden I thought: wait a sec, how is it possible I didn't like this band?
7. I'd get a Model D reissue waaaaaay before a Voyager.
8.
VST version, Native Instruments Monark. A/B'd it next to a Phatty & it's almost identical. The cut off position is slightly brighter on the Phatty, meaning you have to turn the cut off dial up a touch further on the Monark to get the same sound.
I've worked with some VSTs before I got my Phatty and it may sound similar (or identical) but still it feels different. I like the "offline" feel of a real synth. When I played a Minimoog reissue...My oh my.
9. So for quite a while (say about 15 years) I've liked a lot of bands that are heavily inspired by Radiohead, but have always said and thought that Radiohead itself was a boring, whining "meh" band. But today I think I finally understand it and I like it. Just listened to a previously unreleased track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXP1KdZX4io And I really, really like this track and especially their most recent album. Have you ever had that experience with a band (not necessarily Radiohead)?
10. That looks amazing! Why the chrome knobs?
11. It makes me think of the Modulus Flea:
12. Cool!
13. Does this count?
14. I'm at 4, currently.
15. Quite sure that is rosewood.
16. I have a Sub Phatty, and I rarely miss the extra keys of the 37. Love mine.
17. Thanks a lot! I took the PG and neck off. Unfortunately, due to unknown causes (I suspect the bit wonky refin) the neck stamp is impossible to read. It does have the name "X. Armenta" on the neck. The pots indicate the 18th week of '71, so does the serial. So I guess it's not a '72.
18. I have this gorgeous 1972 Precision: And I'd like to know a bit more about it, especially the production week. I am a bit hesitant to take the neck off (not a rational thing, just errrr let's say I'm a bit clumsy), so I want to check the pot codes to date them. Now I know that many Fender pickguards tend to shrink and not fit the bass anymore, but will this one? I believe the celluloid pickguards shrink and the plastics don't, but I'm not sure of which material this is made of. Who can shine a light on it?
19. Thanks It's one of the best P's I've ever felt.
20. Crikey, those Jazzes look AMAAAAAZING

That's gorgeous! Wonder how it sounds. Congrats!
22. Got my Fender fretless in 2003 and have had it ever since. I did buy my Yamaha in '01 but didn't own it for a few months a couple of years ago. But I got it back. Does that count?
23. A good preamp or an octaver.
24. I used one at my graduation concert, on a 5-string with high C in an alternate tuning (can't remember what it was ) to play a James Vincent McMorrow song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtmYzr4pcD0
