1. Well played man With many people who play this stuff, I can't help thinking: "Nice, but now play a proper song with a simple groove, for about 6 minutes!" However, that doesn't occur here somehow
2. I want to marry the righthanded version of your '75 RI.
3. I am going to look at the setup when I've changed the strings. Thanks
4. I want to restring my 35" 5-string bass with an E-A-D-G-C tuned set. Does the tension on the neck significantly change when I do this?
5. Yes, the Classic Vibe series are absolutely great I've tested quite a lot of them and they all seem to have "something". I like the Jazz Bass best, I think the Vintage Modified Precision sounds and feels better, but that's just taste.
6. It sounds great! Still a bit Yamaha-ish, funny enough (and that's a compliment). I also have a Yamaha BB N series, but the 5-string version with Soapbars. It's still a wonderful instrument, despite all thos other basses I've had (and still have).
7. Yes, for about half an hour today, the lighting was ideal. I took advantage of that time Thanks!
8. 1) What kind of maintenance do you carry out on your instruments at home/gigs? Setup, string changes, cleaning, small mechanical repairs, part replacement. I don't have soldering iron and know very little about electronics so I let other people do those things. 2) What position is it easiest to have the instrument in for these actions? (vertical, horizontal, at an angle?) Mostly on the table or on my lap. 3) Are there any tasks you currently carry out where you find it hard to securely orientate the instrument in an ideal working position? Not really, except for removing the neck. I find either the body or the neck falling to the floor.
9. Funky. Check out the drummer's face at his snare hits (approx. 1:03). It's like he takes a snare drum bite.
10. Finally got all the stuff together: As you can see I've modded the Precision a little further. It got new pots (CTS), a finger rest and a pickup cover. I love it now
11. Unfortunately the bass that gets the least attention at the moment, but it's still a great instrument. I just replaced the tuners. It's time for some new strings on this baby. E-A-D-G-C.
12.
Wow... fretboard looks like glass!
Thanks @markl: After I installed the bridge I gave it a good setup and now it still plays like a dream. Somehow the Gotoh enables a really low setup on this bass
13. About the epoxy: That cost me about £75. The sound has changed a lot. The sound became more defined, the sustain improved a lot and it got more "zzzzingggg". About the pickguard: that's easy for a sunburst bass. Black or brown tortoise
14. I have done a lot with my MIM fretless. It started out like this: I then had the fingerboard epoxied by a Dutch luthier: Then came the classy part: I switched the pickguard to a black one. Technically, I've replaced the pickups with Fender Custom Shop 60's pickups, which I got quite cheap. They sound so incredibly awesome! Lastly, I've replaced the bridge with a Gotoh 201. The bass now looks like this: I couldn't be happier with it. Oh wait, I can. If it had a matching headstock
15. I've come to the decision that the Gorm option would work best for me. I want a solution quickly and cheap. I'm gonna power it all (probably) with a One Spot, and I'll see later what I do with a case.
16. I think with the coco bolo it will become too flashy. I'd go for chrome.
17. Still have to have it, of course A few good things: -Playing for 3500 punkers, completely freaking out. -Playing in Leipzig as the headliner on a huge ska festival. 3000 German ska fans, totally out of their mind.
18. I like slapping, but the problem is many bass players don't know how to limit the amount of slapping in their songs. It's always either everything or nothing.
19. A few months ago (when I wasn't on Basschat yet ) I made a demo with my jazz band called Premium. It's on Myspace, check it out! http://www.myspace.com/premiumjazz Basses used are Yamaha TRB5II and Fender Jazz Bass fretless. Let me know what you think
