    As great as the Bassmax is for the price, I'm finding that its not really working for my bass. I am looking to exchange it for either a Realist (wood one pref) or a Schertler pickup. I would be happy to add cash to deal, particularly in regard to the latter! Cheers! D

    Two years old in near mint condition - only gigged twice and has just a couple of small scratches near the line out socket, see photo. I'm predominately a double bass player and I find it a bit boomy on the big axe. Great for guitars though as I'm sure you all know! If anyone has a Promethean P5110 I would be happy to offer my Ampeg plus cash, but only this particular amp please. I'm based in London and ideally collection in W14 Shepherds Bush area.     Hi all, Just clearing out my double bass drawer and got a few things I no longer need: [s]An old underwood pickup - looks well used but works perfectly and is the real mccoy (with Belden wiring). They go for $200 new so I'm thinking £50 is fair?[/s] - SOLD [s]A brown leather bow quiver from JPB music. This is not the posh rigid one but does the job and has the necessary ties. £10[/s] - SOLD [s]A complete set of Evah Pirazzi strings (C extension) - orchestral, not weich.     I traded this bass only because I couldn't get on with the 35" scaling. I do miss it though!

    Thwaites are a good company (if Bill bothers to answer the phone!) but ultimately, like any business, they're there to make a healthy profit. You are very wise to choose an older instrument over a new, providing its in good structural condition. I feel it is always best, particularly given the tempermental nature of basses, that you buy from another player as they have been tried and tested and played in. Alot of these new chinese and plywood basses sound great for a few feet and then die (although I guess if you are using a pickup it doesn't matter so much). If you do decide to buy a toffee apple bass from Thomann etc, then the action will almost certainly be dreadful and will need setting up. Malcolm Healey is a good man for this.     Hi Chris, Yeah, its those bad boys. I'm sure you know them, Leon swears by them (as do a lot of the guys) but you do need an 'open' bass. My hawkes is a bugger and only likes oblis and evahs it seems!

    Complete set of Pirastro flat chromesteel (E string, not C extension). On my bass for three weeks or so and like new. The cheapest you will find these for are £204 from Stringzone. I'll let them go for £80. These strings are real pot luck. On some basses they sound absolutely terrific, on others complete crap. Alas, on mine it was the latter. They are probably the toughest strings out there though so if they work for you, you'll never need a new set! Not really suitable for jazz but more orchestral bruisers. Hope you're all well! Damon
