Obviously you mean Jazz with RW
One of the nicest basses I've ever seen that!

Welcome to forum Joel! I've always felt from reading it, the magazine seems more aimed towards the older bunch (Mid twenties up) (Sorry! I'll duck for cover...) Though I have noticed it seeming much more "younger bass player friendly" these days, though all under 20 bass players I've met seem to act more middle aged anyway Though it seems harder than ever to get folk my aged (16ish) to read things like this, and with bass it's even tougher! Props to you guys at BGM. Also, can I be in the magazine?

Hey guys! It seems pretty common knowledge, and I've noticed in practise, that when using basses with more than one pickup, when using more than one the mids drop. And the further the pickups are apart the more the mids are decreased. Can someone explain why this is? Or is it all urban myth? The more scientific the better! I have a solid grasp on physics for a non degree holder of the public and love to read up on this stuff. Just curious really, AC

Is Erlend Caspersen an endorseeing artist? Out of curosity. Music is very very down to taste, but boy can he rip the bass! -
Are you doing it with Rockschool, or trinity? Or another board? I recently did my grade 8 trombone, and the sight reading (from the syllabus) seemed to be what you would expect from a grade 5/6 performance piece. I also don't know how much they go into theory and aural testing? I also don't see why they should restrict you on what kinda of bass you bring (as long as its in the correct tuning. )
Grade 8 Trombone ftw! (Well Bass Trombone ) Depending what board we can answer more questions, I've not sat but have had unoffically the Trinity and Rock School Grade 8 exams (Ie been examined by examiners under the respective boards, just not as a candidate for the certificate) Sight reading isn't bad when you get a grip of it. On some instruments (Bass Trombone included...) the modulations, timing, dynamics and jumps are there to catch you out but as a piece are never too bad.
It is a gray area, and like most of the techniques in bass playing, I think the technique that feels most comfortable and is able to give you what you need (e.g. being able to play fast/slow etc) is the one you need to find. The Most Inventive Bass Part Ever...
AttitudeCastle replied to Pete Academy's topic in General Discussion
That was erm...not what I was expecting! I also had a small childish chuckle to myself about the fact that his second name is Manring. a bit of 9 string w***ery however I think for the most part, it sounds pretty nice
Wouldn't call it w***ery at all. ChaoTh is a bloody fantastic bass player, talented and rights great lines, nice guy too! I'm friends with him in facebook -

"Real bass players don't use picks"
AttitudeCastle replied to EdwardHimself's topic in General Discussion
I use a pick, my fingers, my thumb, whatever I feel is required. Sometime I have even been known to use my head. Not often though.
I once played bass with our singers sandwich when he wasn't looking in a rehersal. -
General Ignorance of What Musicians Do
AttitudeCastle replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I wrote a paper on this for my school. It's as when people think of musicians, they think of the bands they like/music they like and for the majority of people those bands (or at least some of them) are famous, and wealthy and earn alot, and are in the public eye, so they draw that as a stereotype/conclusion. Or at least I feel that's part of it. As wrong as it is, and the fact it's based on a minority. -
Some people like fret w****ers... other people like the guys who sit in the pocket and do what is needed for the song. i on the other hand prefer cupcakes i cant stand billy sheehan but i know hes amazing. i hope some of you may understand
Can't stand him even when he's slogging low notes?

Awake - Dream Theater Next Time Around or To Be With You - Mr Big Countless others, but those are really my very favourite (and they are all rather different!) Oh and things Brain May did
-
Anything. There are archetype and sterotype sounds. But you can sound and play however you want to, regardless of context.

I have gigged one Wasn't bad! Can't comment on the neck, as the one I played had a modded neck (had be shaved down to owners liking, was kind of like a flatter ibanez) Felt pretty solid, paint was decent. Was with a Doom-core band (Yes, obscure weird and making no sense. So, loud idiots boucing around on stage) and it survived! Would get one if it was super cheap for teaching bad students
