1. There are 2 Yamaha BB414s on sale here i think! And a BB415, Also Imuso.com have some still instock,
2.
Any more bland than another Fender P-bass??? I think it comes down to experience. When I went out to buy a 5 string I settled on an RBX375 as all the other (new) basses I tried up up around my £600 budget didn't feel or sound as nice, nice looking instrument as well. That was 18 months ago and it has just broken for the 4th time. It was a good instrument when it worked but this has put me off Yamaha now. I know the more expensive gear will be better quality but my first bass was a £120 squire p-bass and that still works fine 12 years later. A £320 Yamaha breaks four times in 18 months along crap customer service stops me being a Yamaha customer again. The Billy Sheehan signature has always appealed to get at some point but I don't think so now. When i've got some spart cash one day I'll rip all the electronics out and start again on this bass. On the save for a decent 5 string now, looking at Warwick Infinity or a Roscoe as this has put me off cheap gear completely.
Who were you dealing with? I've always found Yamaha customer service amazing! And all my Yamaha stuff has seemed bomb proof And that sounds Horrible about that Attitude at the show! What was wrong with it? Mine is solid as a rock, though the neck is MASSIVE, same as the Fender Steve Harris, but with custom "width" along the neck
3. Billy Sheehan? Yamaha have him on board! I LOVE Yamaha basses, never played a bad one, and i feel they have buckets of character in the way they play and sound, where as fenders (minus a few!) sound and feel a little bland to me personally BUT i see why so many people swear by Fender! They are still great and the Mainstay of the guitar/bass world. The TRB5 II and TRB6 II are the greatest basses i've ever felt, i wasn't hugely keen on the tone but my tone is funny and naff anyway but they felt like they were worth every penny on the price tag! The RBX range are awesome, look awesome (to me!) and sound awesome! (to me!) But discontinuing the 774 and 775 was a poor decision, that was when John Myung started playing the Bongo, and then they lost a few other artists, Troy Sanders from Mastodon the only one that i can remember off the top of my head. The 775/775 looked even better and played and sounded even better! The TRBs are fantastic and i'm currently saving for a TRB1006, also played a few of the BB2000 and BB3000 re-issues, along side the BB414s and BB424 they have all had the feel of quality. And i rate the RBX170 and 270J as some of the best Started intruments/Budget instruments on the market! They are having trouble breaking into the Guitar/Bass world properly, and i see the same thing in the orchestral world! Yamaha is a name no one discredits, but no one goes "Oh wow! You play a Yamaha!" Though (much like Ibanez) are willing to do and try anything which really helps them grow as a company, i would go on a Trombone based example rant but i'll resist
4. Marti Pellow was great in the Jeykll and Hyde musical! Great band!
5. Ah your so close yet so far! I'd love to play her, even though i can't afford it! Bump on me
6.
trade for yamaha attitude of any kind
Thats gorgeous! These are fantastic basses! Though i'm not trading my Attitude for it! haha, sorry mate After any kind of Attitude in particular?
7. I think that the Fender Mex Ps are a little overpriced BUT I haven't played a 2010 or a 2011 so i'll reserve judgement till then! Some places selling them for £500 and £550! Anyone else remember when they were £350? Plus i'm a Yamaha Fan boy
8. Whats the neck like in relation to the average P size? About the same? Cheers
9.
Completely different style from the above video, Paul Gray from Slipknot used BEAD and Drop AEAD on four string most of the time in Slipknot as well.
Yeah, Paul Gray used BEAD and BF#BE Troy Sanders from Mastodon uses AEAD sometimes too,
10.
I agree the price of MIM standard Fender basses is mad. But for less than that Matt Freeman signature, (which will be hit / miss judging by Squiers reputation) you can probably get on the sale section here and get a lovely Fender Precision in good nick, plus you know most of the time you're buying something decent from someone decent. and at about £300 - 350
I was not including used prices, as like you say the new prices are mad! The GAS inducing BC market place the best place for anything Fender Atm i think! Anyone else remember when Fender Mex Precisions were around £350 ??
11.
this seems too much for this totally... You could find a genuine fender on Ebay or on here for a lot less and would be a lot nicer, I was interested in this bass until i saw the price, And the specs aren't even very good, Basswood Body (Like a standard Squier) Standard Squier P Bass Pickup And one of those Squier Cheapo bridges that seem to be popping up on every new bass, although it might be approved by Matt Freeman, because he's being paid, and endorsed, the bass doesn't seem to be good value for money. Even £300 would be too much, unless it had an extra special pickup and bridge Like Quarter pounder and a Badass. my two pennies. EDIT: i do love that vintage white / maple combination though.. hehe
Whats wrong with Basswood? I personally quite like it And i don't trust the Vintage Modified P-basses, i got 2 (2007 model) First one, truss rod was completely twisted. So sent it back, got a replacement which was the same, but also had a trashed bridge! Sent that back and was done with re-fund! Though some Squires are grand i'll give 'em that! The new price of fenders is ridiculous IMHO A mex P-bass for £450 and up? (some places £500+) Matt Freeman P Now £370! Fender P Just to prove I'm not lyin'!
12.
I think this is right. From what I remember from college, as long as you're not making money from the CDs/recordings directly, then you're fine.
Yep! The orchestra i'm in does this and sends it to booking agencies and venues when we pull tours together! and have done fore years
13. MEGA +1 For Dimarzio
14. I was gonna post a thread on this yesterday, I like the specs, and price is about £360 at Guitarguitar.
15. A whole load of things! Just listened to the whole of the Planets by Gustav Holst, and Liszts arrangement of Saint Saens Danse Macabre, That was followed by the whole of Mastodons Crack the Syke Then this Playing it with a swing band on the Bass Trombone! So much fun Taking a little break, but i'm sure i'll have my ipod on again in a few minutes!
16. I like the idea! Though i've tried playing witha wrist band and it didn't go too well haha I'd pen my username onto what ever we decide one
17.
I still lust after my old JM1 that I traded out! Gutted Truckstop
Just out of interest did you trade that one here? It pained me that i didn't have the money to offer you fairly mate! Thats 4 JM2's and A JM1 that i've missed out on! There must be a higher power and he must be out to stop me getting a JM bass! I much perfer them to the Bongo bass he has now!
18. I'd do dark things to get a Plum Pearl RBX JM2!! they are MONSTER played one, fell in love but never managed to own one and missed out on 2 or 3 that have come upon here! Its a yamaha so the quality is there, slick neck! The Octavarium album was recorded with A JM2 and a John Entwistle Ashdown Amp rig if your a Dream theater fan that will make sense! Really REALLY hot pickup, very Musicman humbucker sound with buckets of power I'm still after one but everytime one came up and i was ready to buy something at home happened and needed funds else where Some of my favourite basses on the planet (I'm completely pro yamaha haha) Fantastic basses IMHO Edit: Also all the ones on here and ones i've seen used (Saw one in Guitar Guitar, missed that one too! The guys told me off for coming in and playing it for 2 hours a day for the 3 days they had it in!) and on here i've seen 3 sold and each one has gone for £450 the good to perfect condition ones and £400 for a slightly worn (a few dings, scratches and blemishes etc) Also welcome to the forum!
19. If only it was a 5 string! (and i wasn't skint/on a bass buying ban!) The orange metallic looks gorgeous in person and these sound AWESOME for the price! Sucks that they got rid of this finish, and the raspberry red! Bump for an awesome bass
20.
Might as well sell this, then, seeing as it sounds really bassy with no character. Except it isn't overly so, and has bags of character.
Awww, got excited at the first line! I want a few more Attitudes in my life before i kick the bucket!
21. When it comes to bass solos in any genre in any context, you can never win! Like all parts of music its subjective, If the solo is played high up its too guitar like, or distorted, or on a 5 or 6 string bass, even if it doesn't use the added strings and most 5 strings have an extra low string! if its played down low its too boring and low, if it uses runs up and down its to much "maths and not enough music" (Above example, for a more rock/metal or "True solo" ie no other instruments playing other than drums possibly which is more my background!) I think its just down to the solo itself within the music not the fact thats a solo, i like some solos dislike others. Its all subjective!
22. I always do that BUT i can never work out the bass lines i've "written" by singing! Any tips? haha
23.
There is more to string tension than thickness. These will be made to be high tension in the low tuning, probably a thicker core, so bring them up to standard tuning and they'll be far too high tension and something will give.
Would the tension really be that high? (as in high enough to cause damage to the bass?) I'm currently usuing 55-115 (Rotosound) for EADG and it seems fine, just had the thing proffesionally set up and such like, and check Also had Steve harris flats (Rotosound) 50-110 on before and they it seemed fine too Both on the same P-bass, and it's still kicking everything is a-ok I don't know too much about all this stuff, so its something i'm keen to learn before i do something stupid!
24.
It wasn't Circle K by any chance???? On some of the more American based forums like the Dean one they mention them all the time with good words.

on the circle k website the largest string ive found is a .254 ........i mean really....is that necessary? even though i tune down to G even i think that is kinda overkill
http://circlekstrings.com/store/single_strings.html Yeah thats the ones! Wonder how many sales they actually make on those thick ones! And whats wrong with .50 to .110 in normal tuning? Steve Harris uses that, and i use that for Normal tuning, sometimes i use .55 to .115
25. From what i've read over in the US the Warwick RBs especially the corvette and the Corvette $$ are great value and quality Really want to try one!
