1.
Ooo I have one of those, posted it here before. I love it man, total tone monster, and has become a joy to play now I'm used to it's bigger size compared to my Rockbass. Lovely finish too. Rocks like a beast.
Looks killer! I only played it for a minute or two, and it had new Pups and wiring, i'd love to hear some sound clips of one! Just on the note, was that a Warwick rockbass? Which did you have and did you like it? (Might get one you see!)
2. Khaler and Hipshot make bass trems (Only ones i know if, but i've heard of others with non Khaler/hipshot ones so they are out there) They do work! Les claypool usuing one at 0:12 His Carl Thomson has a Khaler one i think... They use thick springs on each side of the bridge so it can go both ways and for the tension and for more stability. I'm fairly sure they only use 4-6 thick springs (may have changed, only seen one in the flesh so to speak) but i'm fairly sure they would work better with more, smaller springs. That design "looks" fairly simple, with the "bigsby bar" tomove the bridge up and down a bit. BUT i will probably be silenced in a moment by someone who actually knows what they are saying! I don't know if that is a bigsby so sorry to go a little off topic but i know about other trems
3. http://www.fret-king.com/venturasuper80car_spec.html Thats a nice one, played one modded with three Volumes rather than a 3-way switch + blend James Lomenzo also has a Custome Shop Yamaha BB with Model One in the Neck, Model P in the Bridge and Model J in the bridge position. I find the Yamaha Attitude just right, (maybe the P being a little further from neck like on the Attitude 3, must try one asap!) but then again i'm not a fan of bridge pickups, but that said i like what a bridge pickup Adds, but i never have the volume on them high/i always have the pickup blend 70+ percent to the neck Get a squire P-bass special and modd that! Also the "Danny Growl 'Signature'" has a Neck Humbucker, P-pup and a bridge Humbucker. I've also seen a jackson custom shop with the same set up I think its all about the sound at the end of the day, if your bass as 50 pickups and you like it then go for it!
4. I'm 15 too This place will make you (want to) spend every penny you've got Welcome man!
5.
I get that they are to stop scratches appearing on your bass but I just find myself asking, who plays that chaotically that they hit the bass hard enough to scratch it there as opposed to anywhere else? Even if I played with a pick, I would still struggle to scratch a bass there. Now, if I played with a Black and Decker a la Paul Gilbert, then maybe there would be a chance of a nick or two but, in 25 years, my scratchplateless Wal has managed to avoid being scratched where the scratch plate would have been had mine been a Fender or a Musicman. Who are these scratchy bass players out there causing choas and the need for flat bits of plastic protection? We should be told.
I've played "Daddy, Lover, Little boy" hundreds of time (complete with Makita drill!) and not scractched the plate on my Attitude though have when playing with a pick on my old P-bass Yamaha Market it as 1) More modern/differnt look, and 2) Stops the paint/finish being scratched as the plate can be replaced and also acts as a "slap guagrd" to stop the finish wearing away, which i think look erm, not good! Plus you can change them and personalise your bass a bit too I mean i play some basses with and some with out, like ever seen a 6 string with one?
6. I know its completely missing the point of the thread, but man! I'd love someone to take notice of my band! To have an endorsement, even if it was for one pedal i used or something! Or be signed to a label but alas! A rotosound endorsement would be a dream come true, and a GK endorsement a bigger dream come true and that would pretty much be me set! but to answer the OP question, no. As i wouldn't be usuing it so it would be pointless, like Slash and gibson! His Legendary Les Paul is a Les Paul copy! I think its better just to be honest and true about it all, no one really wins if your face is on something you don't use which someone checks out because they think you use it but you don't! ^^^ Jealousy vent over!!
7. As you can imagine I'm all for Dimarzio and have been since i first picked up the bass But if you do go down the SD route, i'd say the SPB-1 is better than the SPB-3 (and Harris uses the SPB-1 anyway ) Dimarzio model P = Awesome pickup Dimarzio Split P = Destructive and Awesome Pickup! Dimarzio Willpower P = Billy Sheehan, need I say more? Haha Also Dimarzio have amazing customer support i may add!
8. Elephant Gun - David Lee Roth (GULP I get cramp during the verse riff! You'll know why if you know the track!) Hexagram - Deftones The rest of "A change of seasons" - Dream Theater (Has 2 riffs i can't do as they are mental!) Root of all evil - Dream Theater The Super Mario Bros Theme And Truths Ugly Head - Nuclear rabbit. Thats from the last 2 days over the last week I got the rest of "Carry on Wayward son" - Kansas (I only knew half of it haha) And in the last month "The suspense is killing me" - Billy Sheehan Metropolis Part 1 - Dream Theater and Phantom of the Opera - Iron Maiden There are a few more but those are the ones i still remember
9.
Thanks to all the replies I went for the MXR in the end, purely on cost. It's definitely a more extreme pedal but I'm liking it a lot so far. The deep switch is useful to give a big, fat sound. As for Hysteria, that one uses some kind of synth too so one fuzz pedal alone would never get there, but let's face it who in the audience would really notice or care if it's just fuzz? Apart from other bassists of course Didn't realize the Big Muff Pi was true bypass, and might have gone for that if I'd known. Still, I'm happy with what I've got. Who knows, I might even add another fuzz pedal to my board at some point...
The big muff gets rather synth when you saturate the fuzz
10. The Bass Big Muff Pi is true by pass, well the newer ones are at least! The MXR will sound too off and wouldn't hit hysteria right, i've tried! Never used the EBS though (I still REALLY rate the MXR, borrowed one for almost a year, buying one asap haha)
11. I use a rotosound .140 for my B string in standard tuning, I've been looking at a .175 so i can tune down to an F# but that would probably be a tad floppy for my likes, In america i saw a .205 string I cannot for the life of me remember the brand name or what the packet looked like!! Guy at the shop said he had only ever sold 2 packs... to the same guy Also, those conklin strings are expenisve! $34 for a low C#! (the .194) Imagine the price of a full 11 string set! (I Plan to own a 9 string before i hit 30 ) I like thick strings, been called MAD (Mad i say! Mad!) for usuing a .115 for an E
12.
Thanks mate Grade 8! Dam thats good. How long did it take you to get to that level? I'm doing 3 peices out of the grade 4 book and scales, sight reading etc
I'd been playing (I play everyday! and i'm quite musical, i know scales and read bass clef anyway from playing classical bass trombone which really helped i feel) about a year, But as said, some of the pieces are very hard so don't let number 1/2/3/6/7/8 fool you! I CANNOT slap to save my life, and the slap/funk/jazzy pieces are hard (at least for me, a mate of mine is a funk player an finds them fine and i play the metal/rock and some country ones (they are really fun!) like i say, everyone is different!) I really enjoy sight reading, not sure why! Best of luck either way though mate! I'm sure you did great!
13. Reviews seem to say the quality hasn't dropped at all Not played one of either though mind you,
14. You'll be fine mate Are you doing two peices or one peice and scales? I did my grade 8 last year and a grade 5 "Band exam" in december with two friends which was a blast!
15. Though conversely i love the Geddy Lee Jazz bass (only J bass i actually like!) and the Ibanez K5 and i'm no Rush/Geddy Lee fan or a Korn/Fieldy fan
16. Yep, I've got a Yamaha Attitude LTD II, Its a shame most people buy them just seeing them as a "Shred bass" where as in reality you'd be better off with a Jazz bass or an Ibanez! But i love the feel and the tone! (and i don't sound exactly like Sheehan i'll have you know!) And i'd kill for a JM1/JM2 (I missed out Truckstop!) preferably a JM2, Monster tone, and both guys are killer players and two of my favourites, I guess its natural that If a certain bands players playing influences the music you play and how you play your instrument you'll probably be drawn to that sort of tone
17.

Now edited and correct punctuation added. though haha
18.
They come with a puncture? That's no good!
Hahaha Only issue i have with the Harris (and the Sheehan!) is the neck is massive! Based on a thick round late 60s neck, though if you like it, its amazing! I like flat necks, but for anything else these are amazing!
19.
The only benefit of the Common Market
Comman market also keep economies and currencies more balanced though, both good and bad but i see that as a good thing! It is in place for SOME reason!
20. My Yamaha Attitude LTD II (Limited edition 25th anniversary Sea foam green!) Too many memories, and such a special bass to me. First gig was with this one! First demo, hundreds of firsts, Also seeing Billy Sheehan playing a Seafoam Green attitude much like mine (but his is "The sister" with pickups matching the pickguard) is what made me pickup the bass! I truely love that bass!
21.
Gotta be honest buddy, Ric or not that bass will eat both those other basses you've mentioned for breakfast.
GSRs aren't the best basses but for the Money the RBX 374 and 375 are fantastic! Great quick 24 fret neck, comfertable to play look awesome! (To me!) and importantly sound good! Though i currently play a 6 string Ibanez, i borrowed a 375 for ages and never wanted to give it back! I'll probably buy one soon enough... Just my opinion though! I've been called a mad man for not liking Jazz basses, so what do i know!? (Not much then.... thought i'd save someone from saying it! haha)
22. All the BBs are amazing! Every single one i've played, dating from the 80s to 2011 (And i was only born in the 90s!) The 2024 is very very very good. I wouldn't say perfect because of a few things, but it is without a doubt one of the best basses i have ever played, amazing neck and equally amzing tone! My only gripe is no Maple finger board option, (though it looks great with rosewood and helps keep the sound smoother overall) and the single coil hums, which i'm fairly sure isn't the case with the 424... can't remember though! Also i prefer neck throughs but thats me! I can vouch for these basses and Yamaha!

24. If it looks the part then thats enough too feel Lemmy/Cliff Like for me! Just be happy man! Maybe you were expecting a real rick! For 250 euro that would have been a crazy price, but for what you good it seems that was a really good deal anyway! And if you really like this bass does it matter that its not a rickenbacker? Never know, if you picked up a rickenbacker tomorrow no guarentee you'd like it!
25.
AFAIK, the pocket is the same.
Cheers!
