Sounds like you played it with a tider left hand than Juan did on the recording! You ever played this live? Let me tell you, playing this live at the age of 15 is not fun... Early day gig memories! Seriously well done mate! Have a crack at King of the monsters, awesome bass parts!

Yeah sounds like the Attitude Special, budget versions of the Attitude LTD/LTD II made, with Yamaha pickups, single output, no scallops A few of them about on here not too long ago, http://www.musiker-b...al-attitude.jpg Like that? My first real not a let down first bass was A Yamaha Attitude LTD II (I'm not spoilt I promise, long story to me getting her brand new!) Came about 9 months after a squire P I got on the cheap as the neck was a night mare. Hell of a neck to learn on! Everything else must feel puny and easy after it!
My band just used Discwizards. 1,000 top-quality jewel cased CDs with gatefold art and poly wrapping cost about £790-ish inc VAT. Took about two weeks, very pleased
Thanks! Will look into it! Also, love the band/album name and the art! Any snaps of the back for reference?

Hey guys! Thought I'd ask here as you guys know everything! My band is recording our first proper set of tracks in the studio for the next few weeks, and we are keen to get a couple hundred albums made, CD, Jewel case, with art work on the front, track listing on the back and some printing on the CD (nothing fancy) Can anyone reccomend a service/website to get this done? We have all the artwork done, in high quality files etc all ready to go, and the insert designed and done and such, just need somewhere to get it made! Any ideas, and is there anywhere where we can get it all done in one go? Online is ideal as we're a tad remote. Suggestions and tips are welcome! It's just something we're toying with if viable, to sell/hand out and what not. Thanks in advance!
It's Daft Punk. Who knows what's going on there? Those particular notes sound to me as if it's some sort of octaver personally or even doubled up on a synth. The bass has probably been tracked a few times too. It's so processed it's impossible to tell how they've achieved that sound. I must say, being able to identify a player and he bass used is quite an incredible talent! Truckstop
I knew he was playing on the album, but I'm also very familar with the Yamaha TRB/Older BB sound and Nathan East's style as they are some of my favourites in the world of bass, and it sounds like it's in that ball park! Also, yes it does sound like there is a synth doubling the lows!

I "believe" there are two seperate bass tracks spliced together, as that's the case on a lot of the album but it doesn't really sound like that's the case, maybe some re-amping of some sort. I know two bass players plus probably Guy/Thomas themselves play on the album, though I don't have the insert with me at the moment so can't be sure of the performer credits. I think the low bass track is a 5/6 string (I have a feeling it's Nathan East as it sounds quite like his custom 6 string) To my ears it sounds like the lows are carefully engineered and compressed to make it sound nice and thick and fat without being too overbearing but to add that padding to the whole track. It sounds like a reasonably regular TRB-ish sound with some compression, the raspy ness sounds like that classic bridge pickup-y sound but over it sounds liek it has a wodge of bass boost and is being plucked firmly but soft to enough to be mellow (probably between the pickups ish, towards the bridge)/ Knowing Nathan Easts playing and sound that wouldn't hugely surprise me, but that's mostly a guess bassed on listening to it as I type it, being a Nathan East and a Yamaha TRB/ Older style BB fan.

Enola Gay is a classic! And yeah Andy McCluskey strings his bass in reverse as he learnt on a left bass

Isn't this just a barre? I've always done it when I felt it the easiest/most sensible way to do it. As a result my hands are leathery as for a 17 year old but still

You can get passably close to all three with any muff-alike emulator, so those would be the first port of call, and then possibly the Ampeg amp sims. Starlight may be closer to a regular distortion, as it's a pretty open and sawing sound, as I believe it's mostly the animato plus octave. If you have an octaver on the B3 that will help too! I've hit the muse sounds (to a close enough degree that I'm happy with it!) using a Marshall jackhammer and a Digitech bass driver and a Zoom B1X. Unfortunately don't own the B1X anymore so cannot remember any of what I used for it, but I'm a distortion fanatic and using just those two it's not miles away! Though as stated, a big part of Chris's sound is the way the multiple pedals react together, rather than just a single unit.

New Daft Punk Album out in may!
AttitudeCastle replied to AttitudeCastle's topic in General Discussion
I want those instruments... haha! Yeah Nile Rodgers is on it too! He is the first collab video, so excited! -
Just saw that a new Daft Album is confirmed and set for release, don't know how it slipped past me! Out in the UK on May 20th. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=da_Yp9BOCaI Stuff from it sounding really cool, and they went back to basics as it were, using analog stuff and live musicians. Expecting some cool bass on album if the teaser is anything to go by: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4IYyY2vVbM Also seems Nathan East will be providing at least some bass on the album which is cool to hear, Daft Punk have always been a favourite of mine for bass parts, Around the world, Voyager etc Already looking like it will be the soundtrack for my summer, (Big year for me, finishing school moving, family going seperate ways, music stuff in full swing, hoping for certain things in my personal life, going to university, growing up! All in motion) and it's nice to see something like this from such an (IMHO) great artist with an old school but at the same time fresh sound in modern dance music. So, anyone else excited?

Only just heard the news RIP Chi, Around The Fur was always a big record for me, great bass player!

The Bare Knuckle pickups are the best vintage style pickups I've ever used, bags and bags of character with modern clarity without losing that old school feel and thump. Also a fantastic company to work with, great customer service in my experience!

Question about wireless systems
AttitudeCastle replied to Edinburgh_Bass's topic in General Discussion
I can't answer your question I'm afraid but you could maybe look at the Line 6 G series systems. I have a G30 and the specs say it goes down to 10Hz and I've never had any problems playing drop D. Pete
Best wireless system I've ever used, really wish I owned my own! Also, I believe one of the only units that can be used internationally without licence issues? -
How do you 'notate' or write down your basslines?
AttitudeCastle replied to Spoombung's topic in General Discussion
I do everything from memory or just tab it on the fly. I can read music in several clefs just fine (as I play Bass Trombone in an orchestra so it comes in handy! As well as some piano and singing from sheet music) but I always find ti difficulty working out how exactly what rhythm I'm playing (as in how to notate it) as usually I'll think it's something, jot it down, play it based on what I've written and I'm way off haha! Practise makes perfect I suppose though! Also I have many times thought I was in a certain key and made mistakes that way or missed key changes, turn arounds, that kind of thing. It something I've always wanted to get better at, but have found writing things down takes too long when I'm in a rush. Always use a hand recorder or similar where possible, and reverse engineer from there, great things! -
Love the Laney Nexus stuff, designed and built in blighty too!

Glasgow band Maelstrom (Metal) need Bassist.......Quickly!!
AttitudeCastle replied to Leen2112's topic in Bassists Wanted
Ah how I'd love this! Got the Maelstrom CD's next to me right now If only I wasn't a munchkin who lived in Aberdeen! All the best with the search guys! Both Chris and Al are some boots to fill! -
Isolated Bass Tracks - Interesting....
AttitudeCastle replied to Hot Tub's topic in General Discussion
A good example is John Myung from Dream Theater, his Isolated parts sound quite sloppy and the tones are usually a bit naff but in the mix they sound killer nad ultra tight. If you can find them, Duff McKagan's isolated parts are usually super super tight! -
Anything with 'Yamaha' on the headstock. Unbeatable VFM in my umble pinion.
So true!
Plunge taken! Just brought a Godlyke Desciple 5 via evilbay will collect it this week and let you know how I get on, thanks for all the advice
Godlyke make brilliant basses! Another shout for anyone in a similar boat is the Peavey Cirrus basses, under £300 and pretty stonking and built like tanks!

It's not the Trinity Guildhall rock and pop exams is it? I've studied both, currently studying grade 8 bass guitar exams as a tester for my school and I've done my Grade 8 on Bass Trombone. Trinity Guilhall is pretty focused on classical stuff so many it's that? http://trinityrock.trinitycollege.co.uk/
He didn't always, no clue why the 10-string, be better on a chapman stick...But hey, to each their own he has a lot of fun. That's the real w***y side of Technical Death Metal I can only listen to in doses. Good for play mechanics but that's about it, they aren't trying to be melodic at all so if you want melody just don't listen to em.
He plays a 10 string as it makes it much easier to play what he plays, Custom he built himself, also doesn't play a stick as they sound different and play differently. The exact tune he's playing was written on a 24 fret 6 string, has had some octave re-jigging since, but he can still play it on a 6 string. (Saw these guys with Veil of Maya year to two years ago at some death-tech-core gubbins show ) Will totally agree, a genre with "tech" in the name is only that if it is technical meaning that's the focus... I'm all for "chops" on an instrument but only if you use it for a reason. I think the main riff the sweep bit goes into is chuggin' heavy though

Mark Michell of Tetrafusion and Scale the Summit. Brilliant bass player and awesome guy!

The 10 Best Bassplayers On You Tube
AttitudeCastle replied to Lowender's topic in General Discussion
So, a question for those Basschatters who have made a YouTube bass video. Have you received any offers of musical work or been asked to join a band as a result of it?
I know of two who have, not sure about Dave Marks but pretty sure he has too, Dan Houser became the bassist for metal band Veil of Maya after they saw a vid on his YT channel of his version of a section of one of their tracks and later on ended up playing with them at a show by chance. Asked to join after that when their bassist left. I guess that's half and half though. TonyDickinsonBG i know definitely has, he played one Daniele Liverani's most recent album (IIRC most recent) and Daniele asked him after watching a few of his covers. I think actually Mark Michelle joined Scale the Summit after they heard his stuff via some youtube things too. One example of the internet being a big tool as well would be the "Djent" band Periphery, they made it through Youtube/Forums orginating from Dream theater and Meshuggah covers which people liked and kept them interested as Misha Mansoor (band leader of Periphery) would start to upload covers, and then orginals and he already had peoples attentions. I find it all a bit pointless but I do find my self entertained, especially when people add stuff which is their own, or just to see someone have fun with a tune I like. I guess if someone enjoys it, and enjoys watching it great. Doesn't really bother me, the internet is full of pointless rubbish anyway (and this post is no exception!)
