1. I struggle with badly designed logos on the headstock.
2. My first thought would be to say no, I don't like bass solos. But then I love this one. So I dunno. http://youtu.be/VC02wGj5gPw
3. I tried to try it. Rehearsed wirelessly a couple of times but it just turned out to be extra gear that I couldn't be bothered to take to a gig. Bass. Lead. Amp. That's what I always go back to
4.
You know what you need? A fiddle and / or a steel guitar. Problem is finding the buggers. Good luck with your endeavour, chap!
Actually I'd like a singer, a guitarist, lap steel player, a fiddle player and a banjo player. But I also want to keep the band as small as possible Thanks for the wishes
5. Gah. Now I want a fretless.
6. If the problem with the P was the neck...as it often is...what about a Lakland Bob Glaub?...or whatever exciting set of numbers it's known by now
7. A really nice tele is top of my list but a nice Gretsch of some kind is a close second. Or maybe a tele with a filtertron?
8.
Did you follow the fitting instructions correctly? As they are on round cores they will unravel if you don't fit them properly.
Nope But I don't think they would have lasted so long if I had done anything seriously wrong.
9. Had a set on my acoustic for well over a year. The outer winding on the G is coming unraveled and so the string sounds totally dead. All the other strings are still fine. So well over a year of occasional use and one string down. I would use them again...but I will probably save a couple of quid and just put some other brand light gauge strings on.
10. Thank s buddy Yeah...came up with the idea the other...then went to see my old band play...bumped into an old drummer friend...turns out he knows an acoustic guitarist who plays country...BAM!
11. Hi folks, After recent and random events such as discovering I love wearing a cowboy hat and bumping into a drummer friend at a gig...I'm putting together a country band! So far we have drums, bass and acoustic guitar with some vocals, all with gigging experience. What we need is lead vocals and guitar to complete a four piece. I'm based in Hemel Hempstead and the two other guys are not far away. Short term plan is just to get a band together. Long term plan is to gig and make money. I quite like modern country but we're not making any firm decisions direction wise until we have a full line up. That way it can all be nice and organic and we can play to our collective strengths. PM me if you're interested! Cheers. Paul.
12. A few years ago I sold my SX 75jb Ltd to a friend and have recently bought it back. New strings and a quick set up later and I can't believe I ever sold it! Sorry for the rubbish pics!
13.
Seriously though. Thanks for posting. We live and learn
We certainly do! I've been playing for 30 years and I've never had that particular problem before.
14. Fixed it! Lowered the pickups! don't know why I didn't think of that earlier!
15. As per the title, the E string on my SX jazz is doing something very odd. It makes almost a vibrato sound...an unwanted oscillation. It gets more obvious higher up the neck and by the time you get to the 15th fret it's pretty crazy sounding. You can hear it on the open string but not as much. I've changed strings and the new set is doing the same. I was convinced it was a duff E string but now I doubt that's the cause. Everything looks ok at the bridge and and at the nut and tuner. Turning either of the volume knobs subtly changes the rate of the oscillation but the sound is always there with both pickups on or with either just the neck or bridge. Any ideas?
16. Phil X is awesome. His Fretted Americana videos are really entertaining. Not sure I'd want to get stuck in s lift with him though
17. I've just bought a TC BH550 and so far I couldn't be happier. You can load up the tube drive and spectracomp toneprint effects and you basically have a RH450 for £150 less!
18. Someone did a rock version of I Believe I Can Fly which was pretty awesome.
19. Well in my particular case we were already gigging and had no trouble getting pub gigs. We were trying to step up to functions and weddings etc. but just didn't have the right set list. And I know from previous experience that playing gigs that your band is not prepared for, or even suitable for, is not fun. Personally speaking, if I'm going to sell a band, just like any product, it better be up to the job!
20.
Yes, even not on Tramadol, it wasn't the best thread title, just a response to the Groundhog thread. Been on Tramadol once - weird, very, very weird!!
It's a perfectly fine thread title
21. For me it's not about the "off the beaten track" songs but the massive hits and very popular songs of the last 35 years which are totally ignored. I can't think of any right now. I'm stoned on painkillers.
22. I worked with Roy Wood's niece and I used to see him in The Wheatsheaf in Walsall quite often. I followed him into the loo once but he mysteriously disappeared like some kind of wiza......
23. I too would actually be wary of "getting ahead of yourselves". I was in a band with a very enthusiastic member who was always trying to arrange photo and video shoots, getting flyers and business cards printed, organising the recordings of demos...you name it he did it. Don't get me wrong he was a lovely bloke and still a very good mate. But he just put so much energy into all the associated stuff he just never learnt the songs or worked on his vocals. The single most important thing to get right is the music and anything that takes focus away from that can potentially be a bad thing. So after 18 months of bs about what a great function band we were going to be, and how much money we were going to make and how good the website looked etc. etc...the set list was still rather average pub rock stuff. To do list: 1. Be a great band. 2. All that other crap. JMHO.
24. At rehearsals I make a point of only playing during the songs. Between them I stand there with my arms crossed, sighing, tutting and looking at the others in a very disapproving manner. It doesn't work.
