My favourite rig is anything I can lift without crushing my already reasonably crushed lower spine.

My fingernails are really soft and spongy so I have to keep them really short or they just bend back all the time.

Totally depends on the song. I think in 99% of cases we are pretty much ok to play whatever we want but occasionally a bass line pops up that is such an integral part of the song that it would sound odd to play something drastically different. Unless of course the idea is to re imagine the song, and then all bets are off! But then, I pretty much play whatever I want whenever I want to play it so you know...whatever

Nice one. Pleased you're pleased!

I have the E400 junior copy and I couldn't be happier. It has a mahogany body, set neck and a p90 so it has the right spec for a junior. I think that's something the Westfield has going for it over the other budget versions.

It looks like I might be doing some gigs as the guitarist in an acoustic duo. I'm trying to do it with as much of my existing gear as possible so I just wondered if anyone has had experience of putting acoustic guitar and vocals through a Barefaced Compact? Thanks.

Well I Just voted....again -
I won't disagree, but that would lead you to Soundgarden and BadMotorFinger which is better.
BadMotorFinger is totally awesome and Soundgarden's best record by far but for me TOTD just edges it.

10 was awesome...haven't paid much attention to them since. And no thread about PJ is complete without mentioning the Temple of the Dog album. Arguably one of the greatest rock albums ever. Who argues that? Me and my mate Rich. FACT.

Congrats Spoombung and congrats everyone who entered. Great stuff all round. And thanks to my voter!
Good luck Paul, hope the gig is fun for you.
Thank you friend Well, it went pretty well. We all stumbled here and there but recovered well. The main thing is we had fun and so did the kids. The organisers were pleased so that counts as a win in my book!

Slightly off topic but didn't know where else to put it... I've got my first gig in over two years tomorrow afternoon. We've had two rehearsals...played most of the set through once...some songs maybe even twice! The last minute addition of Valerie means there will be at least one song I haven't played in years. And in the last thirty minutes of the last rehearsal we decided to play Moves Like Jagger, Get Lucky and What Makes You Beautiful. Should be fun. Charity gig as well which is nice. Will file a report tomorrow evening

Does anyone play in an 80's covers/tribute band?
paul h replied to paul h's topic in General Discussion
I've actually just joined the site today (though long been a regular reader) in order to post a reply on here about 80s bands and to be frank I'd also steer clear of most of the songs from the bands you've listed so far... my experience of the times suggests an alternative direction where you might explore music from bands such as Talking Heads, The Cure, The Smiths, Level 42, Simple Minds, Japan, The Stone Roses, Echo And The Bunnymen, Siouxsie And The Banshees, Pixies, The Teardrop Explodes, New Order, The The, REM, Nirvana, The Comsat Angels...
Welcome to the forum! I'm glad my thread has got you posting That's definitely a way to go...more rock based than I would choose but nothing wrong with that. My theory was just based on sticking to number ones, or expanding that to a few other classics that didn't quite make it to the top of the charts. I would love to do some XTC or IT Bites for example but I think the appeal would probably be too limited. I confess there is nothing on your list that particularly appeals to me personally but I am sure it would make for a great set. With regards to my current band...as I said before they are not really going for the 80's thing as they want to do some more modern stuff too. However I have certainly got them thinking! It turns out the male vocalist, who in the past has always been the first to suggest Shake a Tail Feather or Do You Love Me, has a love of 90's Dance and RnB! Which is absolutely fine by me There may be a possibility of a set including stuff by Blue Boy, Adventures of Stevie V, En Vogue, Blackstreet and Destiny's Child! I think I may have finally steered them away from standard pub rock! -
Plenty of paint left but I think I will leave the pup covers black. For now at least
Excellent taste in colors sir. I'd leave the covers in black. Just my taste though. I like the Jimi Hendrix White Strat look, even though his cover were white.
I believe you have talked me into it I am now also considering some black coated strings* if I can ever be bothered to change the 3 year old ones I have on at the moment. * I wonder where I got that idea?
-
I'm partial to the black covers myself. That's looking good man.
Thanks:) Yeah I think you're right...I will stick to the black....for now
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it! You've also forced me to go back and listen to my own piece again as I didn't realise the bass sounded like a fretless - it's actually a (fretted) T-bird, though I guess the neck pickup does have that kind of woody, not-quite-an-upright tone about it! While I'm here, a more general thanks to everyone that's commented on the clip so far - it's very encouraging to see that it's gone down well.
Well I didn't comment...but you did get my vote Wait...am I allowed to say that?
-
^^^ That looks awesome. Quick question...do I go for white pick up covers or not?
-
Funny this thread should pop back up today... My Retrovibe is ageing really nicely and I wanted to change the scratchplate to better show that fact off. So this afternoon I had a walk to Screwfix for a can of white Plastikote! It needs a sand down and another coat to fix a few problems but other than that I'm really please how it came out Now the question is...do I paint the pick up covers too?

Does anyone play in an 80's covers/tribute band?
paul h replied to paul h's topic in General Discussion
Well it looks like my current lot are not going for the 80's thing However they have agreed to concentrate on songs from the 80's onwards. I'm not convinced this will be the band for me anyway so maybe I can go 80's with my next band! -
He was always ready to offer support with my depression and often pm'd and emailed me with words of wisdom. I echo Wayne in that it's just not the same here without him.

Anyone here ok at drawing/designing? Well...

I have a very early Retrovibe Aero 2. It's possibly even a prototype but I'm not 100% sure on that. I Love it. Although I am prone to swapping pickups!
