1. I emailed the guys at http://www.teamintlco.com/ just last week to see if there was any chance of me getting one direct. No joy, they only sell to distributors. I even offered to buy 10 of them! Still, getting them from Rondomusic works out cheap enough! P.
2. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's Jim Deacon, and you can only get the starter packs. P. EDIT: Just checked at http://www.jimdeacon.co.uk/index.html and they do a few different basses. Not sure if the FP series are SX under a different name, but they only have one bass listed as SX.
3. Our very own RIM Basses is partial to a singlecut.
4. Is there anything in my sig you fancy? Aerodyne, BB614, Squier VMJ? They are a bit bruised, battered and neglected but all pretty nice basses. What has spurred this madness? I prefer my SX to the others which is a little bit embarrassing. They are getting zero playing time and I am lusting after another SX. If I trade something for an MM, which I have always secretly fancied, that might, just might keep the SX GAS at bay! Paul.
5. If the lad is staying tight lipped on his musical taste, try asking his folks to have a butchers at this record collection. I have taught a few novices from time to time and I think the biggest problem is keeping their attention. A good friend of mine who is a professional gtr tutor swears by it. He makes sure he works on a song every lesson...preferrably one of the students choosing, or at least something that they will know and enjoy. I feel that getting a novice playing along to a favourite tune is more important than scales etc. You can move onto scales later, and then explain them by referring to the songs you have already gone through. They will make more sense that way. An example of keeping kids interested or not as the case may be is typified by a friends son. Someone gave him a couple of guitar lessons, and started out by showing him the opening riff to "Eye of the Tiger". The lad got bored and hasn't touched the guitar since. He's 12. He had never knowingly heard it. He had of course, when he watched Rocky! But that wasn't enough of a reason to learn it! You have to keep the lessons relevant to the kids interests and they have to be fun!...so finding out what he's into is paramount. A friend has asked me to teach her son. I am planning to teach him the bassline to Dance, Dance by FOB in his first lesson. That should get him hooked! Paul. Disclaimer. Personal opinion only, feel free to ignore!
6. Rather annoyingly it's better than all my other basses. Which I am now considering selling on to satisfy the SX GAS. Sounds great, dream to play, light as a feather. I have a video in the general SX thread in this section...ch ch check it out!!! P.
7. Yeah, secondary GAS for me in the guitar section. I am trying to talk a mate into getting one of the P90 equipped guitars just so I can have a go on it. P.
8.
congrats on the sunburst + rosewood/maple + tort combo - killer! I'm planning on joining the ranks soon..but I might go with the PJ 3TS
Ta very much. The 3TS PJ is next on my list!
9. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=11397 Full story in that thread. I am pretty sure if you order on a weekend or a Monday, there is a good chance you will have it by the Friday. The bass I ordered was $110. Shipping and surcharge at the Rondo was $78. So the bass cost $188. I had to pay about £28 inport duty on it. All in all the thing cost me £130, plus another £20 for a tort scratchplate. There are some stories about the quality control being a problem and apparently it is possible to get a bad one. I don't think Rondo refund exported basses so I guess there is some small risk. However I'm totally chuffed with mine, and a good many others seem to be too. Ordering is simple, just a regular online form. And Kurt answered a couple of my emails quite promptly. I have nothing but good things to say about the whole thing. Try TB as well if you want some other opinions. You will find a few moans on there about SX which might be worth reading before you decide. Paul.
10. No experience of the 5'ers...but SX basses from www.rondomusic.com have a few fans on this forum. Myself included. Very popular choice for people who are prepared to do some mods. My 4 string P was great right out of the box! Paul.
11. Very nice indeed. Dare I say an unusual colour scheme? Looks darn good! And my wife would kill for that fireplace! P.
12. Good on yer guys! I have just pm'd Groove to ask for his paypal email. I guess the easiest way is if we all just send the money seperately. P.
13. Nice one Buzz and Toasted. Half a set up and a set of strings is better than a kick in the teeth! Hopefully we might get a few more people chip in and he can get the D and G strings set up as well! Paul.

SX Precision

BTW, if any of you are making a bass related video clip for posting here/YouTube and want to use one the BassChat idents just send me a PM and I will give you a download link. Paul.
15. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=10091 Basically he got sold a dog by a new member. I know I would be heartbroken if I had spent that much hard earned on a bass and got ripped off.
16. Or just PM me if you want to avoid the publicity. Or we could raise £120 and buy him an SX instead! Only kidding. Or am I?
17. Hi guys, I have just been reading about Groove65's bad experience buying a bass off a BC member. It's given me a rather selfish idea. I feel I am running short on Karma at the moment. My Ying is overpowering my Yang or is it the other way around? Or is that just nonsense? Anyhoo, in an attempt to redress the balance I feel the need to do a good deed. I think we should have a whip round and try to raise some money and get one of the BC luthiers to sort out Grooves bass for him. I am pretty skint at the moment (due to all this bad Karma) but I will stick £10 in to get things started. So post a reply with your pledge, or if your a luthier wanting to help out let us know. I can sort out the logistics later, but it's probably just a case of paypal'ing some money over to Groove. Cheers. Paul.
18. Cheers Eude! I thought the dancing as the best bit! I'm actually sitting on a gym ball, which I thoroughly recommend for anyone with a bad back, so much better than a chair. So the dancing is part feeling groovy, and part unintentionable wobbling! I am really pleased with the sound of this bass, so much so that I am not going to mod it at all. It's got a very even tone a fair bit of growl with the old fingers and a good P slap sound. Can't beat it for the price. I am having trouble resisting the urge to sell some of my other gear so I can get another one. Or two. P.

SX Precision

Here is a quick video of me playing along to one Peds loops from "The Groove Library". SX Precision, totally stock (apart for the scratchplate) DI'd and with or EQ or nothing!

21. I can't be bothered to take as many pictures!
22. My 57 P is fantastic...but be warned, the maple neck is seriously orange. As far as I can tell it doesn't affect the sound or playability! Paul.
23. bass £56 shipping £40 tax £27 tort plate £20 = £143 Poker winnings £90 Overpaid credit card £35 = £125 summary. this bass cost me £18
24. I hearby acknowledge that the TORT is the true path and I renounce all others. Even if I did nark it up a bit with the dremmel! The AxesRus plate was a rubbish fit! 4mm off the neck pocket (and a lump out of the treble side...oops!) The holes for the pickup screw mounting thingys was way too small, and I had to force it round somewhat to cover the control rout. Now it's on, I don't care about all that...it looks very SX'y! (sexy...get it?)
25. Glad it's working out for you. Wouldn't it have been funny if we all got one at the same time but they turned out to be rubbish! Tweaked my truss rod today. It was playing fine, I just wanted to see what I could get out of it. It is now possibly the best playing of all my basses. Getting close to the MTD Kingston I had, which was the best player I've owned. Granted my experience of high end basses is extremely limited but not sure how much better it can get. I have the action pretty low, with a few buzzes here and there, but nothing that's picked up. The neck is closer to a Jazz than a P. It's about the same weight if not lighter than my basswood bodied Aerodyne. Of course the neck has been overdoing the fake tan, but it all plays so well I don't really want to change it.
