Lo all! My band Blue Origin have just put up a new video, for our new single Godless, now, it's not the "best" bass playing in the world, as far as technicality goes, buuuut, I dig it, & it works for the song, & that's what's important! I'd like to know what you guys think, about the performance, quality of the video, music, arrangement, anything really, any & all comments are welcome! Enjoy! Some photos with my current favourite bass... plenty of pointy!!

Well, I need some money with Christmas coming up, sooooooo, my trusty Hartke LH500 is going on the chopping block... 500 watts, valve pre-amp, sounds wicked, plenty of power, takes pedals & active basses really well, & generally just sounds awesome, used by various bass players, from Dave Ellefstone to Victor Wooten, now THAT's flexibility!! There are a few scratches on the top, from foolish sound guys & the like, but they're only cosmetic. It's sat atop the Peavey in this photo, I'll get some proper photos when I'm next at practice. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/308325_276017775753415_166821243339736_942422_2058009127_n.jpg I'm looking for about £250 for it, but I can barter, I'm based in Stoke-on-Trent, collection would be preferable, but I'll happily ship it for whatever it costs to ship it.

This is my current board with my hard rock band, using it with a couple of active thunderbird style basses & an active jazz. Just picked up the Shoe Gazer yesterday & tried it out at a gig last night, so far I'm LOVING it!! Should be moving around the board abit & generally improving it, with room for my wah & chorus (aswell as a better power supply & octaver)
The cloth, with pedals still attached, came out of mine last week when I tried to remove one pedal.
I've been having the exact same problem with mine. On a happier note, hopefully should have a new Devi Ever pedal soon

How about a Demonator, or Spire? But maybe they're abit too pointy? Demonator: We're recording our next CD next week, & I'm popping into see the guys at Dean UK while I'm down in London, so if I get to try one of the new Entwistle basses, I'll let you know how they play & feel.

I'm pretty happy with the Behringer that I'm using, but I'd quite like to take Tone Hammer out for a spin...

We're a UK based hard rock band, taking influence from bands ranging from Muddy Waters, to Pantera, whilst stopping off at Shinedown, Led Zep, & Pink Floyd along the way. Having gigged up & down the country for the past year, we've shared the stage with unsigned acts such as Sworn to Oath, Fury UK & Heaven's Basement, aswell as Ska legends Bad Manners.
Well, unless I'm mistaken - certainly for the BDDI , it's 'speaker simulation' has a massive scoop in the mids and is likely to make things worse for you. I am making an assumption based on the fact that I haven't tried the Leads or Oxford models that they may do the same.
Yeah, I did used to use a BDDI, it sounded ok, but I didn't like the mid scoop, even when I only blended in a little of it's drive, I'm finding the character pedals more tempting though, as they have mid controls & I think you can turn the speaker sim off... although I havn't been able to try one.

Thanks for the replies, I'm thinking that next practice I'll have a fiddle about with cutting more bass/treble etc. Prime_bass... They normally vary between 2 & 3, as for strings, I'm using Dean Markley NickleSteel Rounds, but I'm thinking I'll try the Blue Steels next time I re-string. Cab wise I've got a Marshall VBC 412, that sounds middier than alot of other cabs I've tried out, & it helps to bring out the overdrive I use (Ashdown Hyperdrive, but it only seems to boost the mids when I turn it on). I've thought about getting a pedal based preamp & running that into my FX-Loop aswell, has anyone tried the Tech 21 Leeds/Oxford? (I'm not much for the Ampeg voicing, so that puts me off the VT Bass abit)

Hi all, I'm just wondering, is there a way to get more mids out of a Hartke LH500? Atm I'm running the EQ like this: Bass: 2/3 Mids: 10 Treble 2/3. It sounds pretty flat/abit scooped to my ears, one idea I've had is getting an EQ pedal, & running that into the FX loop, or maybe just getting a differently voice preamp. I play in a hard rock band, with active T-bird/Jazz style basses, generally I like the sound of Marshall/Hiwatt/Orange valve amp, buuuuut, I really don't have the budget for one of those Any suggestions/advice would be really REALLY helpful. Thank you!
You're famous Higgins! And it wasn't the band, it was eBay. Who'd have thunk it?
Hahahaha, yeah man, tbh I was half expecting to come on here or Talkbass & find something then I bumped into Paul (ex-Soma bloke, he's not in Black Road Home) earlier today & he told me it had popped up here!
Ah right....are you the guy that uses a chain for a strap? Or was that the old bass player?
Nah, that was the old bass player, I'm the rather more hairy "newer" bass player, tbh I don't think I could hack using a strap made from a chain because of all the running around & stuff I do during our set.
-
Hahaha, how did I know this'd end up on here? Ahhhhh, it's all for a good cause, & I did actually laugh when I saw it aswell
-
Personally I like it, alot

I'd suggest you try out some of Blackstar's pedals, I think they're damn awesome.

Ok, so I'm pretty happy with my current set up, pedal-wise, I'm currently running the following, in this order: Korg Pitchblack -> Ashdown Hyperdrive -> Digitech Synth Wah -> DOD FX52 Fuzz -> Aria Chorus -> Nobels Analogue Phaser -> Digitech Digidelay Now, I also want to add a Tremolo & an Octave to my board, for the Octave I'm thinking a Boss OC-2 & for the Tremolo I'm looking at a Danelectro Cool Cat Tremolo. Has anyone had experience with the Danelectro? Also, I'm thinking of replacing the Synth Wah with something abit.... better, I'm planning to spend less than £100 on each pedal, so any suggestions would be welcome. I play in a "Progressive, Atmospheric Rock Band", as my guitarist put it.

Well, when I'm on stage, I have a perticular pair of jeans, t-shirt & bandana that i wear, that's about it really.
