1. I've always had decent service from V&R when i've popped in... They have let me try whatever I wanted with no fuss. I have bought from them as well. Although one time they were offering a Ric 4001 up for sale for a large amount of money... Which I then had to point out was a 4003 with the push-pull VT circuit. Oops!
2. You could bung some TI flats on it... That would give a lush deep Dunn-esque thump for Motown!
3. That finish is beautiful. A stunner of a bass for a great price!
4. noooooooooooooo!!!! not getting on with it?
5. mmm... anyone out there got one? The price point is fairly attractive
6. Does no-one know anything about these?
7. Should also add that im very tempted by a Geddy as well...
8. Hi all Anyone got one of the new J specials? Im really thinking about getting a J and moving my P on as the neck on a J is far more suited to me (given im used to Ricks)... and these new Specials look damn fine for the money. Whats the difference between these and an Amercian Standard? I am a sucker for the old skool TV logo as well...
9. I have an '09 MIA Precision which is great 'n everything, but I feel far more at home with my Rick... probably due to the neck. Been thinking about trying to arrange a trade for my P... get a Jazz maybe... probably more my kind of dimensions
10. With the original OHSC id say about £1100-£1200 is a good / realistic price? If buying from a dealer you'd normally be looking at £1600+ I would say.

surely Mr Dood could do with another one?
12. Im glad you have! Give it time.... these new Rics are truly excellent basses.
13. Beautiful! I love my 4003, same year etc. I dont really play my P that much.... but I dont think I need two 4003's though...
14. Guy seems a top fella to me. And some of his playing on Pulse is just fantastic, breathed (ahem, no pun) new life into some of those old songs... Sorrow has some lovely licks on it!
15.
Ric really have got their act together with the recent models. The VTC is a massive asset also, I have it in my fretless but not on my fretted (a RI), and it bugs the hell out of me!
I second this very strongly! The new Rics are truly excellent, not a single issue on my 2011 4003 - whereas in the not-too-distant past you would have been encountering some issue somewhere on the bass, from what ive heard. The V/T circuit is a "nice to have" as well - I dont have it on my 4001 as it didnt exist then, and I would have used it clanking out some Purple riffage back in the day!

17. Hello chaps/chapettes Throughly enjoying the fun that GarageBand offers us all on the iPad. However, the distinct lack of bass amps is a bit annoying. Anyone got any recommendation what to use to get a half decent bass sound? Cheers!
18. another +1 here from a previous owner - corking solid built amps with loads of headroom
19. A great day out last time, just the 4 of us left in the bar at the end. Count me in for a repeat, I'll try not to blow the lights up this time!
20. Should also mention I got the Am St P for £849 only 2 years back. So quite a price hike, IMO.
21. Love my rig in every way. 1350w at peak with 2 user definable blendable channels, in built comp, octaver and drive channel an a valve pre for tone. I only wish it was lighter!
22. I played one of the new Am Special J's the other day and was impressed. £800ish for that, about right I reckoned. Would really love to try a geddy as i think I might move my Am STD P on and get a J... The neck on the J seems way more my style... Possibly cos I'm used to thin Ricky necks....
23. For me it has to be the bloke everyone looked at when Metallica were on stage.... the flares, the hair, the headbanging, the style, the skill, the bass... man had it all.
24. wrong time for me otherwise id have this - decided that when I take the plunge into 6 string that it has to be one of these! Lovely bass.
25. Awesome cab, I will never sell mine, I love it dearly. Its worth it for the looks you get from pub landlords when you wheel it through the door. £500 is a great price for an unmarked one of these considering the list price is over a grand now, and the Roqsolid covers are another £45 if I remember correctly (I have one)
