  1. Another +1 for Wunjo from me. Went in to try a Geddy out, Lawrence and Tom were working and happily set me up so I could a have a good old noodle on it. And noodle I did, then fell in love with the neck on it BIGTIME, and had a chat with Brian about putting a deposit on it there and then. Great comms via email (I live 100+ miles away from them!) and I picked it up and completed the deal the week after. Highly recommended, buy with confidence from these fellas! :)

  2. I played one of the new Mexican Geddys last week.

So impressed I put a deposit on it there and then. The last USA Jazz I played brand new in a shop was not in the same league... the GL beat it hands down in every way I could think of. Cant wait to get it back to my house next week!

Dont be put off by the Mexican heritage, this is one hell of a bass. And if truly worried about finish issues etc then I would suggest buying one from a reputable dealer that will give you 2yrs warranty on it :)

  3. +1 for looking under the TRC.

The tuners look like Ric replacement ones from a 4003 - in '76 i dont believe "Rickenbacker" was stamped on them, they were either unbranded open faced keys or closed Grovers... So thats interesting.

The light isnt helping as in one pic the board looks dark and in another it looks fine. I would ask the seller exactly what is original and what is not, parts wise. If the only things changed are the tuners (and they appear to be Ric reissues) then £1100 is a good price IMO. Athough im interested to see what this "redone bridge" actually is... Perhaps a non-Ric rep part?

  4. Ive fallen foul of their QC with another bass i owned... 'twas a brand new 4003 which was the most amazing easy neck id ever played on... Then the paint started coming away at the bridge! Had to go back to the shop, very disappointing as i still havent played one with a neck as good, and that includes the two currently sitting in my house,

I dont see it is an elite club either really, if they feel and sound right to you then you owe it to yourself to get one :)

The best advice i could give would be to try a few out. Just like any brand there are some right old dogs out there, but you might just stumble across something amazing. The second bit of advice i would give would be to buy a second hand one from BC as they tend to keep their value quite well, so you wont lose out financially id you decide its actually not for you.

Of course if the one you played in the shop is brand new, and its *The One* then... Well... You know what to do ;)

Here's a pic of the neck date stamp on my '64 Precision.

Given my date of birth is 5 Nov 64, I had to go for it!

    Thats awesome fella!

Im a 79... Really really wanted a 79' Burgundyglo Ric... Could never find one, quite a few 80' and 78' but never 79'... So ended up with one from 02' instead - lol.

Although a 79' in Jetglo is appealling :)

  6. Id be a bit careful with the Jazzes as the last two i tried in the shop buzzed like buggery on the A string. Perhaps a good setup would help it out, but these two were completely different and had the same issue. Precision was fine tho.

  7. I think the whole thing looks like a Ric, thats what made me go "ummm??" - lol

A shop near me has some of them in stock WITH a genuine Ricky... if I dont decide to have beer on my lunch break ill pop in and give them both a go.

  8. Well well - I can actually say yes I have! Played it the other day in PMT Norwich. Was the short scale version. Nice and "honky".

For me it was just great! Reminded me of my old Gibson Les Paul Triumph. You can really fly about on that neck. The one I played was a jetglo black one, really lovely finish. The acoustic sound out of it was pretty warm, not the loudest but they never are, are they?

I think it was a little overpriced for what it was (something over £800?) but it was the bass I had the most fun on in the shop for sure.

  9. SImple question - How can these guys get away with making the best Ric fakers ive seen and they get sold in shops, yet Ric "seem" to be more interested in going after people doing private deals for old 70's and 80's fakers?

Dont know if its ever been discussed so please enlighten me! By the way yes I own two Rics and I love them, but I really dont care about people making / selling fakers etc - hardly affects the sale of Fenders and Gibbo's from what ive seen:)
