I liked this one - quite touchingly honest: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ibanez-Bass-One-year...emZ220168704282 Jon.
Richer Sounds had a special offer on some speakers on their website with the comment "at this price they won't last long"
 2.
Whispher it quietly, but I haven't changed anything in my setup for must be pushing a year now. This is unheard of for me, but I honestly think that maybe I have finally found the perfect balance of basses and amps/cabs for me. Every time I play I can choose a bass to fit the gig perfectly, my rig copes with anything I throw at it, sounds wonderful and doesn't weigh a ton or take up an estate car to move around. It's a nice place to be. Just for reference, the gear is as follows: 1966 Fender Jazz 1994 Ken Smith BMT 5 Elite 2006 Wal Mk III 5 (Fretted and Fretless necks) 1992 Martin BC40 Acoustic 4 into Epifani PS600 amp and two PS112 cabs When I think of all the money I've spent over the years on gear that came and went it's pretty depressing, but at least now I think I've got it sorted. Just wanted to share.... Cheers all Gareth
Gah, you'd have to be a right miserable sod not to be happy with that lot ;-) All you need now is to stop your drummer speeding up and your guitarist going widdlywiddlywee between songs. I'm still turning gear over at a terrible rate, glad to know there is such a happy state as GASslessness. Salut!
 3.
Rock N Roll Star - Oasis. On paper, it should work fine: well known song, glam rock feel but people don't go for it. They're at the bar before the vocals start. Maybe it's how we do it. It's on the subs bench these days. Only for emergencies.
When you absolutely, positively gotta make every motherflippa leave the room...
 4.
I recall hearing a (supposedly true) story of someone returning a guitar tuner to a shop for that reason. He had left it plugged in overnight and the guitar was still out of tune in the morning.
Was it this one? http://www.gizmag.com/go/4951/
 5.
Don't understand that. Surely the only significant effect that having more and finer strands would have is to make the cable more flexible? After all, to affect the frequency response, it would have to significantly change the capacitive load that the cable presents, which is negligible (I don't think there would be any inductive component in the load). The resistive load would be about the same for the same cross-section, and should be very very low anyway.
Some audiophools will tell you that finer strands show less 'skin effect' but it can be shown that skin effect is vanishingly small on mains cable up to over 1MHz, ie 50 times higher than any frequency we're concerned with.
 6. The ideal companion for the Warwick you're about to buy: a 1979 Precision fretless. Was yellow til I took the paint off, now it's natural ash. Maple fingerboard, all original except pots, knobs and scratchplate (Warmoth replacement).
 7. Ladies, gents, anyone fancy a Thumb NT, 1991? Looking for £850.
 8.
oh yeah, I've read that - it was quite good. The book I like very much and is possibly contender for my favourite book ever, was Swing Hammer Swing by Jeff Torrington. That's a good read.
Haha, yes! I fell off my chair laughing at bits of that. Snackpipe! If you like that you'll like Bruce Robinson's (as in Withail and I) The Unusual Memories of Thomas Penman. And Paranoia in the Laundrette.
 9.
Well folks, my annual trip to sunny places for 2 weeks for sun and a major chill with the 'ole lady looms....... Things not allowed are bass and guns (obvious reasons) for me, and anything Hockey related for Sal, so we have to spend time with each other.... Actually it really does you good, no work pressure or time constriants because of time consuming pastimes. It does give us time to read, which is something that will extremely pleasent where we are going..... so ....... What bass or muso related books can you recommend? No theory please, have plenty of them! Done lots of repair theory and practice! Do enjoy music history (but not heavy theory based stuff!) Do enjoy lighthearted suff too! Still got 4 weeks before we go so have time to get stuff from the US if you know of a 'must have!"
Iain Banks' Espedair Street is good 'beach fiction', about a seventies superstar band that I suspect might have been inspired by the Who.
 10. I have 3 Warmoths, all superb. +1 on the suggestion to use lightweight tuners to compensate for the heavy (but hopefully stable) necks. My swamp ash dinky P (maple neck, hipshot through-body bridges and Seymour Duncan P and J pickups) is probably the lightest bass I've ever lifted and also the nastiest sounding - that's nasty as in NICE by the way.
 11.
How on EARTH are you able to get a warmoth build for that sort of price? Usually when i design mine theyre around £600 :s
Maybe he hadn't thought about VAT, duty and shipping. Or paint, or a second pickup. Mine cost about 500, but great quality and very lovely to play. Charic, did you build one, or just get as far as a wishlist?
 12.
Harley Benton is the Thomann stuff yeh ? I don't see why it wouldn't be worth a punt. They are maybe not as goof value for money as an SX for the US but i think the only way you'll get a pretty decent represntation of how they are is by buying one
I do a lot of business with Thomann and they are great value (though very busy, and it's generally a day or two before you get a reply to emails). If you decide you don't like the guitar within 30 days they'll arrange for UPS to come round and pick it up, no charge.
