2. Thing about J. Wetton's tone is: if you like Precisions (and I do), you'll love this (yes, I do). I can imagine a lot of people disliking it because it sounds too much like a Precision.
 3. Looks like it came out of something's arse - uncomfortably.
 4. Didn't I comment? I'm sorry. I meant to say how well the Welsh language suits reggae. And how neat it is to call the label 'tacsi'
 5.
Haha. I really don't like the way they look, or the chunky necks or the number of frets, or the headstock or even the way they sound most of the time. Yet I am having to fight not to order one. I am agog.
They don't all have chunky necks. My CIJ is easily the most comfortable neck I've played - wide, yes, but very shallow. My Warmoth P is very chunky though.
 6. I remember an interview with him where he mentioned that he couldn't handle the weight of a big bass, so he had this one made.
 7.
I seem to remember you were using a Markbass 4x10 at the time (to prove I paid attention )
You got me bang to rights Guv. And the singer turned up seconds before we were due onstage, looking like Keith Richards warmed up, having just had a generous hit of smack.
 8.
Yes come to the Cambridgeshire area You might be able to get a spot at the portland arms / man on the moon (both are dives) but you will struggle getting paid anywhere in the area I'm afraid. The only way to get paid around here IME is to have a PA and play pubs
Not only is the Man on the Moon a dive, but the landlord will take half the door as well as the bar takings. The Portland is a bit better since it's been extended but it's another DIY venue, ie you do the publicity and collect the door. At least they let you keep that (minus the £50 for the inadequate PA). Hard to get a crowd if you're not known locally. The Emperor is an ok pub to play, they have PA and don't charge for it and pay 250 to 300 quid. They book up a year in advance as far as I can tell. 21 Hills Road, cb2 1la 01223 464633
 9. Just about every one-guitarist pub band I've seen has been better than a two-guitarist. You get to hear the vocals and the bass. But you already know that :-)
 10.
...or for the bolder among you, there's the annual '3 Elephants' festival, Laval... http://www.les3elephants.com/2012/ See you there..? Cap..?
Seriously, yes please. Can you put me in touch with promoters?
 11.
But I still say though if anyone on Bass Chat finds themselves in Leeds ever fancies a pint or a meet up please drop me a PM it would be great to meet up for a natter & a booze.
With mountain bike?
 12.
OK, the next time any of your beggars are playing in or around the Lower Normandy region (La Luciole, Alençon..? 6 x 4 à Laval..?), I'll be there. Be warned, however, that I'm old and grumpy....
I'm old and grumpy too, we should get on fine. Where do you want us to set up then? Have you a 13A socket? What? Over between the cigarette machine and the ladies' toilet? D'accord...
 13.
So where is your area? Which venue(s) should we get in contact with? Have you got a link for your band?
I'm in Cambridge. There are a couple of venues for touring bands that you might get a support at - the Junction and the Corn Exchange. The pubs that put on free gigs tend to be rather small but if you're interested I could get you the contacts. PM me if you think we could do a gig swap, though I'm not sure we'd appeal to the same audience. Pretty sure the guys in my band would like you, for what it's worth. We haven't played outside Cambridge yet. www.tigerblue-uk.bandcamp.com (apparently we're playing in Mineapolis tonight )
 14. That Charic came to one of my gigs and said hi at the soundcheck...didn't see him after we'd finished making our filthy racket though, so I'm guessing he was being diplomatic
 15.
I don't imagine the OP is still around, but in case anyone else is interested I'll throw in a suggestion that sometimes confuses people. Aswad are better known in the UK for their slightly cheesy reggae pop single "Don't Turn Around" but go back a few years earlier and they were producing some fantastic stuff. Check out "Dub Fire" on "A New Chapter of Dub"
plus the one, they did live dub magnificently too. Saw them loads of times back in the day and they were harder than your husband. When the bass and drums kicked in a shockwave would go through the crowd. Proper awesome.

 17.
I've had the bass line to badge by cream stuck in my head for about a month for no apparent reason. I cant remember th last time i listened to it but do have to play it occasionally to get the ear worm to stop. Are there any other sufferers of random bass line ear worms.
The opening of The Fall's 'Bombast'. It gets stuck for days.
 18.
2. This is what I can never understand, how can you have heard 'most' new music? It's a common thing I hear on BC that 'most' new music is sh*t
I'm with you in disagreeing that 'most new music is sh*t'. In fact, the word 'new' is redundant.
 19. It's the combination of the words 'vintage' and 'ebay'.
 20.
I've just been reading through this thread - I have a real hankering for an upright, I've been playing saxes for about 8 years but following recent dental work it's quite uncomfortable, and as a bass-player of some 30 years the old low notes are calling to me once again. I don't really have room for a 'real' DB unfortunately, so I reckon EUB might be the way to go. Having read all this, I am definitely going to count the pennies a bit. If not a Stagg (which seems to have nice features) is there something a little better/more expensive, say around the 7-800 quid mark? Cheers, Bob
The Aria is definitely a nicer instrument (I've had both) but as Pete says you do need to spend 100+ on strings whatever you get, so that makes it more like 900 quid. There's one on Ebay with a cracked headstock, not sure how structural/repairable that would be.
 21.
Sorry, thanks. That was really helpful. Are you a troll?
Bit abrupt I agree, but the streets and pavements of Cambridge are full of a really dangerous mix of unaware cyclists and unaware runners. I've had many a near miss. Cambridge is a bit of a special case though.
 22.
See how much you learn when you don't live in the perfect world of Musicman, Warwick, Warmoth etc.
I have to admit the holes for the bridge were borderline too-far-from-the-neck on one of my Warmoths.
 23.
Just riffing on the "built in cable"..how cool would it be to have a built in cable in Basses that rewound rather like on a cylinder vacuum cleaner? You could have a 30' cable and wander all around the stage! Just need to work how it would all fit in the control cavity......
Could be like one of those retractable dog leads. When the singer's had enough of the bassist snurfling audience members' arses he pushes a button and - pertwanggg! you're back on the stage.
 24. I don't get that slim=fast either. It's surely how it fits your hand. Maybe it's psychological - because it's thin like a greyhound you expect it to go faster than were it fat like a St Bernards. (not taking the piss, for once, never underestimate the power of placebo)
