1. Aye, me and Barefaced. PA bass drivers tend to not have the HF extension of designed-for-bass drivers, so I (we) tend to add HF drivers.
  2.
It won't be long before you see Musicman rotating the machine heads to a clearly more comfortable angle facing the player.
{ahem} edit: just tried to upload a photo of a Thumb but my computer went MENTAL...

  4. Or, in English: http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_powerplant.htm are they isolated though?
  5.
Amazingly, someone (apparently) bought this mess; http://www.ebay.co.u...=p2047675.l2557
ewww! What's with the E tuner? 139 quid! plywood body and all.
  6.
Can't seem to upload pictures but for me it's actually one that was mentioned in the ugliest bass thread.
I predict that every bass nominated on the 'ugliest' thread will, eventually, also get a mention here, and vice-versa.
  7.
This isn't what musicman20 has been waiting 7 months for is it?
8.
People still reference with auratones (Behringer make a cheap version of the auratone even!) They allow you to concentrate on the mids on a small box with no port and pretty even though limited requency response. Often people will mix on a single auratone in mono, to get levels, check how transients are reacting together, ensure there is enough space in the mids for vocals etc. Of course then you have to recheck everythig on the bigger monitors to get any idea of what is going on in the bass, and get soem panning sorted in the mix, theoretically when you get as far as the panning suddenly everything has its own space and the whole mix sounds really defined with a space for everything and everything in its place. NS10s on the other hand, they just plain suck
I've never enjoyed the sound of Horrortones, but recognise the necessity of their evil. Wonder what these would sound like in a small box: http://www.tymphany.com/files/PLS-P830987%20Rev1_0.pdf

I never knew what it was, but I want it now I know I can't have it

    Not for sale.

    Is this still for sale?
  11.
Who needs 38Hz anyway. After all the lowest note you can get (i.e. bottom E on a proper bass guitar) is only 41Hz. Any lower and you're weird, or an organist!
There's a world below 'bottom' E! Used to be, back in the good old days anyway (return to 1st post in this thread)

  13.
I gave up listening to music years ago; I only listen to test tones nowadays as at least they're properly recorded!
Ever heard an MP3 of a 38Hz sine wave?
  14. You can trust this man with your life. Or your bass, at least
  15.
I don't think that music has become as devalued as you think. It simply doesn't occupy as dominant a position in western society's popular culture as it used to. IME there are still people interested in music, but among the younger generation it's now just one of many things to be into.
Spot on. You could say that quality of sound began to become less important when the pop video took off; people started saying 'have you heard [tune], amazing video'. Kids nowadays probably wonder how we used put up with poor TV reception or having to find porn in hedgerows and newsagents.
  16. Friend of mine sold a petrol generator on Ebay specifying collection only. The buyer insisted on his finding a pallet and tying said generator to it so the courier could pick it up. Friend was too nice to tell him to go frack himself, should have done.
  17.
but the weak point will remain to be the MP3 - crap in / crap out
Don't agree at all. OK, I'd rather listen to cd or vinyl, but there's less difference between uncompressed audio and decent bitrate MP3 than there is between floor-standing Tannoys and an Ipod docking station.
  18.
Btw, orange nitromors, then heat gun, then f*&kloads of really coarse sandpaper, and a ton of elbow grease (enjoy the horns) then down the grades til it's nice again. Then Danish oil. Takes about a week if you're in a hurry,
I did exactly this to a 1980 Precision to remove what I thought was a nasty colour. In fact it was 'vintage' and took two thirds off the value of the bass. Can be done though.
  19.
Errr...And that is the same now as it ever was, the best mic for a given application is the one that sounds best in that application at that time, it has nothing to do with the era in which it was designed or the type of mic or anything else. All that matters is does it sound better than the rest of your options in that particular scenario....
In a world of bullshit, disinformation and confusion, 51m0n's posts shine like beacons of truth and goodness
  20. Does look great, though I misread the first line of your description as 'I'd had a few drinks when I got it so I've 'reliced' it' Mighty Mite necks are nice.
  21. It's ...fugly. Am I wrong and bad to think that?
  22.
My TV sounds a bit crap though. Never got into surround sound systems and the like. There doesnt seem to be a cheap way of having one system for both movies and music.
I've got my dvd player plugged into my music system (200W power amplifier and vintage Tannoy Ardens) and it sounds great.
  23.
I may be wrong, but I imagine 'back in the day' if you wanted any sort of hi-fi system it would be comprised of large separate components becuase that was the only option, regardless of your concerns about sound quality.
Not really, there's always been shyte audio and good audio. I've had plenty of both over the years. I think Paul was wondering whether folk are less bothered about sound quality nowadays.
  24.
Walking around with headphones permanently glued to your ears with a constant flow of mp3 music restricted to only the last 60 years of material makes you deaf [s]to quality.[/s]
Did you see what I did there?
