Jools, Soundgarden, Fender P, end of discussion?
bremen replied to skidder652003's topic in General Discussion
If it wasn't for the almost constant evangelism of P-bass players, I would never have known what I'm missing. I know now though, so any time you want to stop is OK.
Good point well made (and I love my P ) -
Another gem; http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2c698468d2 I almost feel a bit guilty about laughing at these, but it can be hard not to.
Looks like a well-polished turd...
Would be good to get a few more details of what you require just to be clear about things. The songs you want to set BPM for: are they just ordinary mp3's from the sdcard? If all the songs you will be playing remain a constant BMP and you just want to tell the drummer that inital BPM then its quite simple, If you wanted to tap out the entire song, taking into account bpm changes throughout the song, and then reflect these changes back once the drummer sets of a tune (i.e the bpm changes on the screen in realtime) then thats something much more complex. EDIT: ahh i think I just realized that you are talking about tapping the beat as you jam it live, same applies though, if your songs are kinda like jazz and the BPM is jumping then this will have to be weaved into the app, increases the worklaod significantly
Dunno about what anyone else wants from it, but all I need is something to start the song at the right speed, without a click track. I'm fortunate in that none of the drummers I regularly work with speed up during a song, but ioccasionally a song can start at the wrong tempo (more often too fast than too slow)

For what it's worth, Warmoth say it's probably ok most of the time but they won't honour the warranty on a maple neck if it's not sealed.
Not available yet? that "Metronome: Tempo" app looks like it'll do the job. it's 65p though and i've not yet added a payment method to my phone so can't try it at the moment.
I've signed up to get notified when it is, so I'll let you know.
You should keep ideas like this to yourself otherwise someone else might end up making a bit of money!
If you can implement it and sell it, you owe me a pint.
Hah, I forgot about the SPB1, cheers for that I've heard others comment on how good they are. Will this work ok without a preamp on a standard bass?
Yes, most definitely.
-
Yes, but with the flashing display rather than (or as well as) audible click, so it's truly stand-alone, and with the emphasis on it being useable on a dark, crowded noisy stage. Big bright font for the setlist, moves on automatically to the next tune after it's introduced the previous one, that kinda thing. And for Android. Apple can suck my lemon.
-
The click track could be an option. My drummers are fine once they've started (Skol: electrocution's too good for 'em), it's just starting at the right speed!
-
I have in my hand a smartphone. I tap it in time with the tune we're playing at its correct tempo. It remembers that tempo and saves it with the title of the song. I repeat that for each tune in the set. (Later, at a gig) I select the songs from a list and arrange them into a setlist.I put the smartphone on a stand that the drummer can reach. The display is showing the name of the first tune in the set I've just arranged. He touches the screen. The display flashes four (or eight, or whatever) times at the appropriate tempo for that tune. He clicks his sticks. Away we go. Meanwhile, the display is showing the next tune...and so on. Does this app exist, or can anyone help me create it?

Multi preamp switch box project - wiring help!
bremen replied to Walker's topic in Repairs and Technical
Why not get a 4-channel mini mixer?
That'd sort the preamps>poweramp, but you'd still need to switch the wireless>preamps -

Yeah, I'd do as Mr Mottlefeeder suggests. You could guard against thumps with a bunch of caps and bleeder resistors; I could draw you a diagram but if you want to keep it simple then yes a mute switch might be easier. -

I'm not quite sure what you're doing. Is it: 3 sources, each into its own pre-amp, then select which preamp connects to power amp ? If so all you need is the switch between pre outs and power amp in. I don't see why you need patch panels, or to switch the inputs to the pres. -
I have a Seymour Duncan SPB2, gritty and clanky. And a Wizard Thumper, dark and heavy, that I use in the reggae band. Best comment I got after a gig (from a horn player) was -what do I tune down to? -EADG, mate. -No really! it's so deeeep!

ZAPPA - You Should Watch This - It is Fascinating
I've dipped in and out of Zappa over the years
I like to think that Frank would have enjoyed hearing someone called Lord Sausage saying 'I've dipped in and out of Zappa over the years' -
FX is mainly for chorus and a bit of auto wah or filter. So that's normally after the pre I think? So what you are saying is... guitar into Ampeg pre > FX > Genz Benz power stage (via the FX return). Would that be the same as putting the FX into the loop if I wasnt using a seperate pre?
Yes, can't see why not.
... I still occasionally wonder what Frank Zappa would make of all kind of things nowadays....
You know. Many news items on subjects involving politics, religion and sexual hypocrisy I think of Uncle Frank, bless him. Wonder what he'd have made of x factor and Chris Brown... -
l can't see how an acoustic bass guitar could emulate the tone of a bass; the size of the body is going to be so much smaller that it just isn't going to resonate at the same frequencies. have you considered solid bodied electric upright? I have an Aria swb lite, and with ropewound strings its no harder to stop than a bass guitar.

At what stage do you call yourself a bass player?
Oh crap. I might be in a MOD band . What now? :-D
Report to your senior officer and SMARTEN YOURSELF UP, SOLDIER! Edit: Ah, THAT sort of Mod. In that case: Listen to the Kinks and the Who and SMARTEN YOURSELF UP, BASS PLAYER! -
I remember Gary Moore saying If you walk into a room where you keep your guitar and not feel the need to pick it up, then maybe Gary Moore's not for you.
Equaliser and desk help - any sound engineers out there?
bremen replied to Walker's topic in Accessories and Misc
1. Can I use one side of the EQ to shape the room and the other side of the EQ to help ring out the monitors? 2. Would I then just come out of my main out just using one of the outputs (and panning everything on the desk to one side?)
Yes and yes.
3. I've attached a picture of the output section of the desk - how would you connect the equaliser for the monitors and main out, considering the monitor mix will be on an aux?
I'd take the left main out (assuming you pan everything left), feed that into 1 channel of the EQ, then the out of the EQ into the power amp driving the main. Aux send out then goes to the other eq input, and that eq out to the monitor amp.
