The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
bremen replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Although I enjoy playing my squier jaguar, I might have to "move it on" -now that's what I call a euphemism, it's like "putting to sleep" - as I get all the sounds I need from my big basses and I really dislike the PJ pickup arrangement. Then again, Spider makes a very good point...I get my bus pass on Sunday so maybe I should hang on to it...could always swap the P pickup for a J...decisions...decisions... -

Look at the poster behind Slouching Sid! -
This, x1000. The sound coming out of a tinny little badly engineered fartbox isn't going to inspire you to keep playing.

What am I actually trying to achieve and with what?

You need an inflatable washing machine, as marketed by the Geddy White Goods Corp, available at larger branches of Curry's and the middle aisle at Aldi -
You've spoilt it for everyone now, Chris. We were loving the mystery.
-
And, more importantly, is it good for metal?

Came here from the Stop Posting Without Reading thread 😝

I'd agree with that. Unfortunately some foh "engineers" flat out refuse to do anything other than say here's the house DI box, plug your bass into that. If you argue you know they have the power of God when the gig starts and will wreak vengeance upon you for your impudence. Best solution to that is to employ a very scary looking roady to stand over them.

Yes good point, he's got the Ray so why not play it!

Ive been ghosted a couple of times following conversations initiated by Joinmyband, seemed keen til i revealed my age. I have an audition next week. They've heard me but not seen me yet. I suspect I might have a few years on them...let's see how it goes!

A visit to John Shuker to talk about JJB?

Roundwounds. I'll get flamed for this but I've found the Precision to be a two trick pony; both tricks are superb and depend entirely on the strings (OK, four tricks if you include fingerstyle/pick). I've never got on with PJ as the staggered p pickup blended with the inline j means there's a significant difference in tone between EA and DG.

Oh, and that one that goes naa naa na nanana naah for about ten minutes. Wasted half my adolescence with that on Pick of the Pops waiting for the next song and hoping it wasn't going to be Someone and Theiruncle

This Trace Elliot ELF never ceases to amaze me!!!!
bremen replied to Mike Bungo's topic in Amps and Cabs
Should we start a new thread for this sort of discussion, interesting as it is to me and my fellow geeks it's a bit off topic. -

All very incestuous. Next thing you know, Peugeot will be putting Ford engines in their cars. -

OK thanks. Having been involved in compliance and emc testing I know its a tiresome and expensive process. So Trace, GK and others basically can't afford it, deciding its less bother to buy them in pre-approved. A bit sloppy though, not protecting them from death due to fan failure or user error? -

Why would gk not design their own amplifier? Why buy someone else's board and run it to the ragged edge? Bob Gallien is a real engineer, not a salesman. Genuine question. -
Warning.... Kappalite 3015 NOT designed for Bass!

I've been using the alpha version, beta was extremely buggy last time I tried it. Is it any better now? https://loudspeakerdatabase.com/ is, as you'd hope, a wonderful resource. It exports thiele/small parameters to win ISD (or several other apps) -
Jlcpcb is so cheap, fast and such good quality that I suspect they're a loss leader for some sinister purpose. So user-friendly too, upload the gerbils (I'll let that one in 😄) and you get a preview so you know you've not forgotten a layer.

Comes to all of us...

It's very "playable", love the feel of the roasted maple. Initially the sound didn't seem deep enough so following some tips here I got a pair of dimarzio ultra jazz, now it really sounds like the jazz bass I'd hoped for. Very versatile, works with a pick or bare fingers. It's my first J. I was expecting a big difference in the neck but actually the CIJ precision feels skinnier at the nut. I think it's unusually shallow for a P. I haven't measured them. I should, in the interests of journalism.

Yes I'm ever so slightly tempted...going to wait to see what Mr Tone makes of it after a few gigs/rehearsals/oasis reunions... Just weighed my jet jjb, 4.2kg.
