2. ^^^ that's four Eminence Beta 10 inch drivers, common enough, in a reasonable sixed sealed box. The thermal rating (the one in the advert) is 600W (assuming 150W per driver). Note how much power they can actually handle in the lowest octave of a bass guitar...
 3. Just realised the driver I offered is actually a Kappa pro LF-2 (low sensitivity, high power, extended LF), probably not at all suitable for a low power amp. But you're still welcome to try it.
 4. Is it a valve amp? You should be OK driving it into 8 ohms if so - it's under-loading an output transformer that's a no-no. I have an Eminence Kappa you can try if you like, I'm often in Ely. PM me if I can help.
 5. GHS pressurewounds on my fretless http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GcQJyHGbeY very responsive, ie they can be as dark or as zingy as you like depending on how you attack them. Much more like rounds than Chromes.
 6.
On asking the soundman to boost the low mids and reduce the lows he just looked at me as though I was daft.
[stereotype alert] Sound guys tend not to take constructive criticism well. It's like criticising someone's driving.
 7. Mark, look out for the postman. Anyone else want one (Mullard candy-stripe 15nF like Kevin's) PM me.
 8.
Also using a 6 pole means that the unused capacitor is completely isolated, Using a three pole means that the unused capacitor is still connected at one end. Wires connected at one end only are often called aerials!
Not if you do it right; ie keep the wires short.
 9. Any film cap of the correct capacitance will do. PM me your address and I'll send you one.
 10.
Fair play to anyone trying new ways to make music. Personally........... Nige - I promise you , if ever I get given one it's yours the same day
11. Seen this? http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Kinsman-HFB6-Hard-foam-Bass-Guitar-Case/C8Z I haven't seen one in the flesh...Looks like a good compromise though.
 12.
Double bass everytime. If you go for an EUB, you will still want a double bass. If you get a double bass, you won't want an EUB.
I have an EUB and I want a DB, true. If I only had a DB and had to get it to the gig in my car and make it heard over the electric guitar and drums, I suspect I might wish I had an EUB. Also depends on the group, the other instruments and the music. Artisan and Philparker are playing rockabilly, Bilbo *loves* jazz., so DB is clearly best for them. EUB suits my band's style. EUB isn't just a poor man's DB, any more than an electric guitar is a poor man's acoustic. It's an instrument in its own right; very different from DB and fretless bass both in sound and the way it asks to be played.
 13.
It does. They're called 'holidaymakers'. Ignorant , philistine plebs , obviously ! Be so much better to walk into a bar on your jollys and find 7 miserable old tossers in leather elbow patches playing moondance for 3 hours with their back to the audience , applauding each others extended solos mid song and looking really pleased with themselves!
Lanzarote has the power to make Guardian readers do Karaoke. *cough* so I'm told...

 15. They've got these too, for 'programming' the drummer:
 16.
Jaco played a Hofner as well Oh, that reminds me Chris, I owe you some money!
Urban myths then? Shhh! HMRC are listening!
 17. While we're here: Urban myths or true stories - Bruce Foxton's 'Rick' was a copy, and most of Chris Squire's recordings were done on a Jazz. ?
 18.
Hopefully the bass is in pretty good shape, although it wasn't expensive it was used by a pro player: http://www.canalplus...html?vid=397008
Lucky bugger, I was looking at that bass and was very taken with the sound in that clip. Enjoy!
 19.
I was asked by a woman at a gig last year what instrument I played. "Bass" I replied. To which she asked "Oh, are you a musician?".
"No, ma'am; I'm halfway between a drummer and a musician"
 20.
Rent one from your Local Council... My coucil charge £40 a year if you live in Kent or £80 if you're outside! At the very least you'll know weather this is the right route for you!
Is this available for adults not in formal education?
 21.
Get a spare piece of MDF and make a 100mm hole in it as normal. Then clamp this onto the baffle so the hole in the MDF is where you want the final hole to be. Recess the bit the bit so it's inside the holesaw, then drill, using the MDF to keep the holesaw in place.
I was going to say that ;-)

 23.
At the risk of opening a can of worms, why is that wrong? Cheers,
Doubling the power increases perceived loudness by 3dB, noticeable only in an AB test. Add to that the fact that most amps that deliver (for example) 100W into 8 ohms will only deliver about 160-180 into 4, so it's even less than 3dB.
 24.
Wow, beefy tone for a TV studio! The realist done good there...
+1, gorgeous.
