1.
Man up Don't mind the weight ourselves (we'll happily get a rack on wheels ) Thanks for the offer for help
Haha, you do like your gear as heavy as your music don't you! I'll PM you when I get rid of the power amps I replace with ClassD
 2. I'm in a similar situation, except that my vocalist isn't handy at anything except singing (sorry Meg, I'm sure you have skills I know nothing of ). The BFM speakers look good but I don't know anyone that's used them in anger. You will need a crossover for the subs. I believe the Behringer crossovers aren't too shabby, or if you're not bothered by stuff like time alignment you could DIY this: http://sound.westhost.com/project09.htm My opinion on power amps is that they're too heavy. I've ordered a bunch of Class D modules for a bass amp and if it works out I'll be building more for our PA. Happy to help if I can, PM me.
 3. If I hear just one more bloody limerick I think that I'm going to be verysick. At the drop of a hat there's one on Basschat Still, unlike my offerings they tend to rhyme nicely and all the syllablesfit
 4.
I think the look of this thing is what people refer to as an aquired taste, as is the somewhat polite tone of these basses. Looking at your gear list, I think what you already have will actually sound better. Most importantly though, I hope no actual whales were harmed in the manufacture of this bass.
Aye, you've got a Thumb and a Jazz, what more could the heart of man desire?
 5.
"professionally aged by an expert in this field" Should this not read " professionally aged by an ex pat in his field?
" professionally aged by an cow pat in a field"
 6.
Nope.Still don't get it. I understand why people would want to BE in one, there's a healthy market and money to be made and fun to be had,I would have loved to see Jimi Hendrix/The Doors/Rema Rema/ choose your own,I didn't,deal with it.I have no interest in seeing someone impersonating them.
What Spiny Norman said really. My girlfriend is a big Oasis fan and made me go see Noasis in a back room to 100 punters. I didn't think I'd enjoy it, but it was a great friendly atmosphere, we all sang along, band didn't take themselves too seriously. It would have been even better to see Oasis playing a back room to 100 punters singing along but it's never going to happen.
 7.
I still don't get it. Why would anyone want to see a band/act pretending to be someone else?
They're not really pretending, any more than the audience believe they are the originals.
 8.
I wish I could remember what they were called, but I saw an awful Rammstein tribute a couple of years ago. Guitarist was barely in time, fronted by an out of tune, chubby goth with a lass on bass who was there presumably because she was willing to wear a short skirt.
What did they do for the pyros? The spunking pink foam cannon? The homoerotic s&m ballet? I'm visualising a couple of Catherine wheels, a supersoaker and a slap on the wrist.
 9.
Oh right. Yeah we once got a sound guy who told us drummers weren't supposed to sing, and moaned about it all the way through our soundcheck. Sometimes you just get a dickhead don't you.
Wonder if obbm could supply a range of 3 pin male XLRs > 13A mains plugs to sort these guys out ;-)
 10.
The question isn't 'why bother' - it's 'why worry' !! You do your thing to whoever wants to watch you doing your thing and it makes you happy. Somebody else does there's in greater numbers...good for them. I've found that since the point where I was confident and experienced - at life - enough to stop conning myself into thinking we're all equal and was therefore able to accept that most people I come across are dumber than me , I've found such things as karaoke much easier to deal with.
Ain't that the triple truth, Ruth. What you're doing isn't in competition with karaoke any more than it is with football or stamp collecting, totally different sports.
 11.
I find it amusing in the Class D world that all the manufacturers have different claims as to the watts. They all use the same power section because Class D technology is patented and owned by B&O. If you open the amp up you will usually see the B&O ICE module in there separated from the rest. They are all pretty much the same.
first I've heard it, are you sure? anyway, its definitely not the case that all class d amps use the same output module, whether or not class d is patented. the op's measured power figures are odd too. halving load impedance on a perfect amp will double the power; on a real world amplifier it will produce somewhat less than double the power.
 12. Hardly needs another voice saying 'you did the right thing' but here it is anyway. Few things more frustrating than a band that grinds to a halt partway through a song because the tone is wrong/I fluffed the intro to my solo/I saw a canoe on top of the drum booth. Good luck with the new band :-)
 13.
I think that's a BCer's bass. I thought I'd seen those pictures before, but the post has now been edited. http://basschat.co.u.../184768-removed
Well spotted, same location too. Cheeky monkey.
 14.
Wow, live and learn, never seen/heard anything like this before for over an hour. Drop 'B'?
Makes Metal Machine Music sound like James Blunt.
 15.
But which lead is best for metal?
A lead lead!
 16. I use an Eminence alpha 8MR alongside a 3015LF. Sealed back, so doesn't need a separate box within the bass unit's box. Great punchy sound, without the 'fizz' you get from piezo tweeters. http://cpc.farnell.com/eminence/alpha-8mr/eminence-alpha-8-mr-8-125w-mid/dp/LS00183 I drive it from a separate power amp with an active crossover, not sure how well it'd work with a passive crossover.
 17.
I use the Status Halfwounds and I find them to be much more slippery than the D'Addarios halfwounds I have. The more they are played the smoother they become. For me they have a tone to dye for. Hotwire flats are good too.
Thank you! I'm there :-)
 18.
Welcome, BV-FD Frankly, I wouldn't worry about puns - that's as witty a screen-name and as charming an intro as I've seen in a long time. Hope you enjoy the forum, m'man.
Aye, best name since Jean-Luc Pickguard.
 19. There's the Feedback forum
 20.
Can't help you there, not tried them. I tried GHS Ground Wounds once but I'm definitely a Flatwound person, always have been, always will be
I like the GHS groundwounds on fretless, sound like rounds but don't seem to go from 'too zingy' to 'dead' as quickly. Much less difference between rounds and GHS groundwounds than there is between GHS groundwounds and Chromes.
