2.
As far as I can remember the switch has something to do with the input limiter of the Class D power amp, certainly nowhere near the output stage.
That'd work. You could design an output stage that'd go 'bang' into a 4 ohm load were it not limited. Flick the switch to '8' and it'd be unleashed. Bit risky though, what happens if you run it into 4 ohms on the '8' setting?
 3.
Watts is pretty much a fabrication, since it's dependent on outside influences, and only quotes a nominal one. The correct filtering load would influence the watts too though, since the purpose of the filter would be to remove the distortion from the amp, although I don't know if it counts as harmonic distortion for the THD figure, which is necessary to quote to give a useful output figure.
No, the filter wouldn't remove (for example) the harmonic distortion from a 1kHz signal. The stuff that a class D output filter removes is 400kHz-ish. Still a mystery. I like your Octobass.
 4.
The confusion comes when someone plays in different bands who do the same song in different keys
I've been the cause of a few trainwrecks for that reason...
 5.
Using the speaker as an inductor for the low pass filter that takes out the switching noise from the class D output saves components and makes the amp cheaper. Cheaper to make at least.
You'd still need a sizeable inductor to filter the output before it leaves the box, otherwise the emissions would be horrendous and it'd never pass EMC (and CE) testing. Even if this was the reason, what would the switch do? There must be another reason.
 6. Riding a bike is what keeps my black dog under control too. I like Bilbo's advice.
 7.
With the Ivory you could make the most illegal piano in the world. We may be raping African wildlife, but at least we're helping fight racism.
I like the idea of an illegal piano. Something very Spike Milligan about it.
 8. Could use it to make prosthetic tusks for elephants that have had their ivory nicked.
 9. My first choice for vocals is the Rode NT2000 (aka Rodent Zoo), which I believe is the multi-polar version of the NT1.
 10.
Take out the bridge pickup, put in a neck pickup instead. You've already got all the wiring, the only problem is your pickup is in the wrong place. You're welcome.
Aren't they different sizes? I think the problem is the position of the pickup anyway.
 11.
all strings on....and bridge depths adjusted. Im tuning them up..very..very slowly ....after recent events Im scared
...as a db newby I'm following this with baited breath! hope it goes ok...
 12. I have a P with a MM pickup, pretty much the same spacing as yours. Sounds good in a way that a PJ doesn't.
 13. this is a lovely amp, or to put it another way: Bump!
 14. Got a gorgeous Fender D-tuner here, absolutely pristine, delivered quickly and with instructions. 'Buy/sell with confidence, A+++++++++' as they say in Ebayland.
 15.
Erm, where's the other half of that pickup?
"Please see my other auctions"
 16. My sister's double bass developed a rattle...turned out the rugrat had posted a slice of toast through the f-hole. Well you would, wouldn't you!
 17. I've never found a J pickup to blend well with a P; often I'll get a solo'd sound I like but it then vanishes in the mix. A MM seems to blend better...all this is a matter of taste of course. edit: my PJ has the very same pickups as you mention. Each sounds good on its own. Why not look out for a cheapo P body to try it on, borrow the neck from your lovely bass, so you can restore your P [s]when you realise[/s] if it doesn't work?
 18. I love it when the 'upgrade' is free
 19. Weird, I'm the most boring Precision-loving luddite I know, and I'm strangely drawn to this...much too expensive though.
 20.
Its for a strap that goes around your neck like sax players etc. A
Weird! Why? Thanks for the string info. I'm also participating in the Innovation trial offer - I actually had a loan of their Golden Slaps (fnarr! fnarr!) but didn't get a chance to try them, hoping to get a new nut and another chance before long.
 21.
Aha, that's a real possibility! I've asked on the QSC forum but no reply yet.
I don't know why they'd do it in a linear amp, though. Worth doing with Class D to avoid bus pumping. Tee hee, I said " bus pumping"
 22. I wonder why they don't offer bridge mode. If you're lucky it's just to deter people from running it bridged into 4 ohms; there's also the possibility that it's already bridged, ie it's actually four power amps hard-wired in bridge mode. Their site offers schematics of just about everything except this amp, unfortunately.
 23.
I'm not a guardian reader, and neither is my wife.
Racist!
