1.
Still available, make me an offer of cash or trades if you're interested.
Ashdown Dual Compressor?
  2. All is not lost if the holes get enlarged http://www.unofficia...php?topic=163.0 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300662714371

  4. Why not (for now) just swap them over so the active input works?
  5. Someone sold a 'new folder' some years back. 'I have created a new folder on my desktop that I don't need. I will ship it to you on a 3.5" floppy disk'
  6. You'd be better off stacking them all together rather than at opposite sides of a stage. http://billfitzmaurice.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=398
  7.
Seeing as my bass is active, I can use a passive DI right? (I don't wanna eat 9v batteries!)
That's right.
  8. Its probably the conductive rubber between the braid and inner insulation. needs to be stripped back so it doesn't touch the inner core. 55k is high enough not to completely kill the signal but it will knacker the tone (of a passive instrument anyway)
  9.
Check out Cold Amp and Hypex who also manufacture ready built D Class modules. They are great companies too. For the 'Daddy' of D Class modules I'd look at Powersoft's offerings as well as B&O. Both of which I think OEM for some of our favourite lightweight heads!
I did look at hypex and coldamp yes, but I'm trying to save a bit of cash by doing the DIY thing...also the IR design gives 500w into 8 ohms, a good match for single eminence neo drivers as seen in Barefaced and similar cabs.
  10.
that sounds like a good project, stick a nice home made preamp before it.... and bobs your uncle.... I know what preamp schematic I would use too!
Ampeg SVP or Alembic Fenderclone?
  11. I'm having some boards made, and am buying the bits for these: https://ec.irf.com/v6/en/US/adirect/ir?cmd=catSearchFrame&domSendTo=byID&domProductQueryName=IRAUDAMP7D Seems to be a mature, reliable design that should build into a very nice 500w (bridged) amp, or a stereo 250W. The ready-made ones sell for $200. Anyone interested in a kit for considerably less than that? Or a built-up one for a lot less?
  12. I suspect one is 10mm and the other 3/8 inch. nearly the same. Which is which? I mean, is it a Japanese/European jack, because this is most likely to be metric.
  13.
How?? That pic was only up for less than a minute!
As an Aldiologist, I know how to pounce on a bargain :-)
  14. Looks good, but I'm looking for and old-skool square-cornered one. Thanks!
  15.
in the end I went with this, £19.99 from Maplins. Carries up to 80kg and folds completely flat for storage. http://i734.photobuc...t-uk/studio.jpg
I'm very impressed!
  16.
Do it! Play fretless in a punk band for the sole reason that someone just said that it's not appropriate.
sound advice. Though you should disregard it for the same reason...
  17. I just had a double entendre and went 'snib! snib!'. Do I win a pencil?
  18. I had one of these, made a fearsome racket. You'd think it was a lot more than 100W.
  19. 'Ponk' is probably a pretty good description of the noise a Kay short scale bass makes. Not much chance of the TWANG! THUMP! BOOM! BOING! that Discreet craves.
  20.
I accidentally bought a Thunderbird
I just hate it when that happens ;-) Also enjoying Chromes on my Precision, playing reggae and old school soul. My band loves the sound... 'I was *feeling* your bass tonight'
  21.
I'm new to the bass guitar and I'm finding it difficult to stretch more than 3 frets, seems impossible. It's quite disheartening actually! Is it just a case of practising or will I really struggle? I have a Fender Squier vintage modified 70s jazz bass.
Welcome to BC. How small is small? I have short fingers but get around ok on Precision style necks, wider than the Jazz. It does take a while to get used to fretting, yes. And you can do quite a lot without having to stretch more than 2 or 3 frets. Hang on in.

  23. http://billfitzmaurice.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=398 Sub Placement: While it’s customary with PA to have speakers to either side of the stage, that’s usually not the best way to place subs. Subs work best when they’re placed either close together for mutual coupling, or spread very wide to cover large areas. The basic rule is to have them either less than a quarter-wavelength apart or more than two wavelengths apart for their pass band, which for 40 to 100 Hz means less than 2.8 feet or more than 56 feet. To understand why click on this link, which demonstrates the destructive interference between subs that are separated: http://www.falstad.com/wavebox/
  24.
I saw Steel Panther at Download - where the drummer was introduced as the best drummer in the band. I like that one
whereas poor old Ringo wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles. edit: Damn you and your goal-hanging, Discreet! I once spent the night with Dennis Bovell.

    Low morale?

The weather, last nights fitba, pub game on its arse. Basschat , on the other hand, is an oasis of cheer and good humour. You think its ill-tempered, just compare it with talkbass, YouTube comments, or any other forum.
