I currently have 4 basses, but only play at home, i have no immediate plans to gig etc. I recently put my basses up for trade/sale and although i had a number of interesting offers nothing that really jumped out at me and i apologise to anyone i messed around in my deliberations. I want just one "special" bass, i have worked out it has to be ideally 4 string, fretted but beyond that i don't know what it is. I have the value? of my existing basses and around £1000 budget, i realize this is an enivible position to be in but anyone got any suggests what to look at. I like all my basses and they all are great, but there is no love. Is this early onset of GAS. Cheers Paul.
Given your stated interests, I'm amazed that you don't already have a 70s Precision. For the budget you could get an Ampeg SVT and fridge to go with it... ;-)
Don't use files! Use 'Welding tip cleaners' - available off the bay for about £4 and from hardware shops for less. Perfect for cutting a nut!
Top tip! Thanks!

£700 for the bass, £60 for that font...
I have done classic car parts on ebay for over 10 years, for the most sending around the world is ok but there is no doubt some countries have more than their fair share of real pain in the a@@ people i can almost predict what the sale is going to be like from a few countries ! so much so i have now barred some countries from bidding, its just not worth it. so, you can in your ebay sellers options just send to the EU. sorry this info does not help you much Could of been allot worse at least it came back in one piece and you can still sell it !!!!
It's been a long while since I bought a practice amp so I can't comment on that, but I've tried Pocket Rock-It headphone amps and wasn't overly impressed. VERY bulky and the sound wasn't all that great. Never tried a Vox Amplug, I hear they're a bit nicer.
The Rock-it is hissy. I lost mine down the back of the sofa and can't be arsed retrieving it. I now have a Vox, and it's very useful along with an mp3 player.
Just a few gems from my former lead singer in a pseudo blues band. "I'm the clever one in this van." (when extremely p*ssed). "You all aren't playing the songs how I want them played." (when extremely p*ssed). "The bass player is trying to take over the band" (because he did a website that generated work and took bookings, when the singer was extremely p*ssed). "I could play with an out of tune Salvation Army Band and they'd still clap, because it's me". (when extremely p*ssed).
You were in The Fall?
having finally cut down to 1 band, I had a concept for a 2nd band, made up entirely of guys in other bands, with essentially 2 line-ups that could be interchangeable at a moments notice. A kind of covers collective so that if anyone gets a last minute booking with an important gig, they can go, and one of the rest of the collective could take over. As long as everyone was fairly busy it should work.... Ever been done before? I was going to call it "The Deps"
I'm heading towards a situation like that. Been playing in a covers band for a while that only has the singer/guitarist as a constant; he has a choice of two drummers, three bass players and at least four keyboard players. One of the drummers got offered a gig that the singer couldn't make so we got together a set and played it with the 'leftovers', and that has now become a band in its own right. Meanwhile I've joined a band that we hope will have a stable line-up doing originals, and will probably become my 'main' band. I'm hoping that if the originals band gets offered a gig for a night I'm already booked for elsewhere I'll be able to break Charic's golden rule and cancel if one of the deps is available...otherwise, yes, you do the gig you booked. Hasn't happened yet, mind.
Hey Folks, I love my Precision but the neck is slightly on the large size for me. It's a 57ri body with a 62ri rosewood board.I've been thinking about getting a Maple/Maple Jazz neck for it,specifically the Mighty Mite offering which gets good reviews on here. One thing that worries me tho' is that the necks have a one thick inch heel. Does that mean that you have to trim it to size ?? My wood working skills would probably write off a £100 neck if that's the case. Cheers in advance.
I put a Mighty Mite P neck on a Mexican P body and had to rout the pocket down (seemed a safer option than shaving the neck). Nice neck though. You could alternatively try a Warmoth neck.
Here's a vid of a guy playing Trubass on a Warwick. Gives you some idea albeit the song choice is hilarious!
Uncanny - that's one of the songs I have to learn!* Sold! *may not be true

Thanks, Clarky and Pietruszka, and yes I have found that plucking near the fingerboard gets me part way there. Trubass sounds good. I'm not afraid of a high action; after all, however high I take it it won't be anywhere near the action on a real upright! I guess it means I'll have to widen the slots in the nut though so no going back... Pietruszka may be right, I'm going to have to get a real upright at some point. I don't have the cash right now is all.

I've searched for this and it's a topic that keeps coming up...sorry if my question has been answered elsewhere. Anyway, I have half-rounds on my Warmoth/Bitsa at present, an EMG-P and a cheapo piezo bridge that looks suspiciously like the one on the Dean Pace EUB. I want to make it sound less like an electric bass and more like an upright. I've considered EUB but I'm told that unless you spend loads you tend to end up with a fretless bass guitar sound, which I have already. Is it likely that tapewounds will be a step closer to acoustic bass sound? Any particular brand? Thanks!

Advice for an upright newbie on buying an EUB...?
bremen replied to Beedster's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Chris, how did you get on with the Stagg? Like you, I have a nice fretless and want more of an upright sound. I know you're playing more real upright than anything now, would you recommend the Stagg as a step towards Real Huge Upright Bass? cheers, Chris -

Hello darren2005hotdogs, Hi, can you guarantee that this is a genuine Fender neck? I have never seen one with the truss rod adjustment at the headstock. It also seems to be in very good condition for its age; I'd have expected the nickel plating on the tuners to be a bit tarnished by now. This looks like recent chrome plating to me. Not suggesting that your listing is fraudulent, just that you might have bought something in good faith that isn't quite what you were told it is. http://tinyurl.com/74dndua Regards, DI Truscott (Of The Yard) Your message about Bass Guitar Neck has been sent to darren2005hotdogs. You should expect a response within 1-2 working days. A copy of this message was sent to your email address and is also in your Sent folder of My eBay.

Very beautiful...except that pickguard. It's not just me is it?

I have a P with a Badass 2 and one with a BBOT. The BBOT one sustains better. But there may be other factors. I think the greatest improvement, soundwise, in 'upgrading' on the original is placebo.
