if you cough too hard the headstock falls off.
Brilliant image!
Quite fancy a Fender Precision after somehow going through 10 years of bass without ever having one. Sunburst with red tort pickguard, rosewood neck and some D'Addario Chromes,
All that, and Japanese? You just described mine perfectly. But you can't have it. Sorry! I'm going to build a 100W combo with a single ten in it, for practising and to sit on top of my two 15s to add some clank.

The tuners look wrong to me. Anything else?
I'm a Basschat member because I'm interested in music and bass guitars. There are a few musical threads in off-topic that I contribute too, but for the most part it's full of inane crap. If I wanted to exchange poorly thought out views on subjects like public sector pensions and the euro; get needlessly worked up over made up stories in the tabloids; or slag off reality TV programmes I'd join a more appropriate web forum to do so.
Basschat inmates exchanging poorly thought out views on subjects like public sector pensions and the euro, getting needlessly worked up over made up stories in the tabloids or slagging off reality TV programmes are so much more entertaining than civilians doing the same though. I don't know of any other forum where such a diverse demographic is represented.

I meant, have you read Perfume both in German and English?

I love Perfume. I only wish I could read it in the original German, though the translation is so beautiful. Have you read both?
You see... Precisions I can play (or a reasonable attempt ) Jazzes are too skinny for me
'Sright. Horses for courses...me and Charic, we have hooves for hands. -
I'd like someone else to have this. It's walnut, oil finish, not as green as it looks in the photos. Has a rear cavity; no holes drilled for pots. Jack (included) edge-mounted. Drilled for Fender BBOT type bridge (6 holes). Fits Precision neck (lovely snug pocket) and hangs like a Precision. For those unfamiliar with Warmoth's 'dinky P': http://www.warmoth.com/Bass/P-Bass/DinkyPbassCarved.aspx Cost $249. Yours for £70. Thanks for looking!
Today in no particular order. John Entwistle Bruce Foxton Duck Dunn James Jamerson Bruce Thomas All united by the fact that they managed to play interesting bass lines that made a huge contribution to a host of great songs. On another day might be Danny Thompson, Andy Rourke or Paul McCartney.
What he said. -
I'm not saying, but if you were there you'd still be cringing as well!
Oh no. You're not getting off that lightly. Spill!
It would have been a better story had the neck come off...but fortunately for me it didn't. I will say the audience found it hilarious. But then they were waiting to watch Budgie so I'm not sure they should have been laughing! (Just kidding, before any Budgie fans proceed to rip my head clean off - Burke Shelley is a good player, I like the band and they were very nice guys too!). I heard the same story about that Clash shot. Didn't he try and glue it back together or something?
His nephew found it in the loft and put it on Ebay.
I was playing a gig in Cardiff, and it had been going really well. Feeling a bit adventurous at the end of a song, I hit the final note (a massive open E!) and decided in my youthful exuberance to do a Billy Sheehan neck bend...
I really wanted this to end with "...and the neck snapped clean off!" Not that I'm wishing misfortune on your bass. I'm told that the notorious Simonon photograph (cover of London Calling) was a mistake; he thought it was his backup bass but at the moment it hit the stage he realised that he hadn't swapped, and it was his best instrument.
So....... when I wire the switch in as per the diagram, will the pickup still be working the same as it does now, when it's in Humbucking mode? Also, just wondered how sure you are that that diagram's correct, because I've bought a switch and I'll have a go at it tomorrow night if you think it'll work! Cheers.
That diagram is correct for running series/parallel. If someone can show me how to upload a pdf I can show you a schematic for using a 3 way toggle for series/singlecoil/parallel.
-
I don't think so ... the classic, "burpy" Jazz tone requires two single-coil pickups, ideally with exactly the right spacing between them. Having a Split-P humbucker as one of the two pickups rules that out entirely.
No, I agree that you probably can't get the J tone from a PJ. There may well be a different, but great, sound available from both pickups on a PJ but I haven't really found it yet.

Poncing like a tit at a gig I fell flat on my face and broke the jack off in the socket. And split my pants. Borrowed a bass from the support for the next song; the roady had taken the pickguard off my bass, removed the broken bits of plug, bolted it all together and tuned it before the end of the song. My pants remained unmended. heh heh, I said 'jack off'
-
With the P/J approach, bear in mind that you'll never get the full range of Jazz tones. I did this with my old Maya P-bass and I use either the neck pickup or the bridge pickup - I don't even try to blend them, it just sounds wrong to me.
I have trouble mixing P and J too. I suspect something could be done by amping them separately or putting a short delay on one.
-
I put a set of these in my Squier P and I'm really pleased with the tone! Cheaper than a lot of others too... http://www.guitarfet...-hot_p_334.html
'an almost unbelievable amount of low end grunt, snappy string response and sweet, round tone.' At the same time?
-
"I couldn`t hear myself, I`d best turn up". Surely if he`d not been wearing the darn things he would have been able to hear himself!
I play with a drummer who uses plugs - fair enough, he's looking after his health - problem is, it means he batters seven shades of sh*t out of his unfortunate kit.
-
Let's be honest here, when most of us were starting off we would have LOVED the chance to have that much money to spend on a bass! I still would!! Why learn on a crap instrument if you can afford a good 'un? That just seems counter-productive to me. Part of the reason why some of us struggle with technical deficiencies now is because we adapted our playing styles to cope with rubbish basses in our formative years (IME anyway).
ok, but it's not as simple as bad bass/good bass. There's such a huge range and what might be a great bass for you might be totally unsuitable for me.
-
Basically, buy the bass you really really want, don't get a cheap bass wishing it was your dream bass.
But if you're a beginner you don't really know what you want! I spent 1000+ on a Warwick because I liked the sound of it. I'd been playing for many years and thought it was my dream bass. However, I never really warmed to it, sold it at a loss, tried many cheap(er) instruments and now am blissfully happy with my £200ish 'bitsa' Precision.
