The brain's memory capaicity is currently estimated at 2.5 petabytes (according to The Scientific American magazine) anyone know how many songs that is???? Edit: About 800 million!
That's at what compression ratio/bitrate?
What Is Your Brain's Capacity? For learning and remembering songs? I recently passed an audition (yay) and have joined a band which starts gigging in December and basically was given 15 days to learn around 25-30 numbers for two 45-minute sets. I've never had to learn and retain this quantity of musical information in this sort of time period before in all the years I've been playing... I think I'm doing OK, but my question is this... how many numbers can you keep in your head at one time? I know that theoretically there is no limit to the information the human mind can store and retrieve, but is it really true? Do you get to the stage where you learn a new number and the oldest one gets 'deleted', for example? Or should I just shut the hell up, take my meds for God's sake and get to bloody bed? I thank you.
I returned to playing after a long layoff and was presented with a long list of songs and not much notice. Scared the sh*t out of me, but happily the more I learned the easier the next tune became. Almost as if each tune left a greasy coating to my brain's entrance, the better to lube the following one's ingress.
Yup. Felt the same for the past year. Generally can't be arsed to post anymore. Anyway, it's the same old crud that is being recycled and talked about again and again and again in the bass sections... (there seems to be a finite number of popular discussions) and as for off topic, well, I've learnt that anything interesting ends up in a lock... so can't be arsed there either. Forum has changed a lot over the years - for example, a lot of the older more entertaining members are no longer found anywhere. I guess that's the evolution of the forum. And yeah, the new bloatware is annoying.
I don't care. I just love EBS's posts. The bit to the left of them, anyway.

The FS6 doesn't seem to be configured as an A/B, looks more like it's intended to switch keyboard functions such as 'loud pedal'. I'd suggest the LS-2 if you need the level controls, and the Switchblade if you don't.
We were actually playing it in D buy yeah out of tune synth sounds might be the culprit. Why play along? Well it's Christmas isn't it silly Maybe someone from these forums could write a decent Christmas song so the rest of us have something decent to play next year
I didn't write this, but here you go anyway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnthgtwQ-ok
I have a peavey combo and a 2 x 12" guitar amp which I use together. I think it cost me £250 or so in total. The sounds I can get (using pedals too) are just amazing, and it's easily loud enough for pubs without PA.
But you're a drummer!
I'm an opinionated, judgemental, argumentative, self-righteous, vain, passionate knobend with a dim view of humanity and it's behaviour. Off Topic is a place for me to stimulate and satisfy this base, needy side of my my personality.
I've been misreading your posts all this time. I thought they were generally humanist, rational and eloquently called 'bullshit' on the 'hang-em, flog-em, bring-back-national-service-for-nonces' faction.
I don't think you were. I disagreed loudly with the collective opinion of too many other posters, so my card was marked. I got a few warnings saying that I'd been complained about but nobody would tell me what the complaints related to or who had made those complaints, then IIRC I eventually got banned for telling a christian that it was un-christian to say he would kill someone if they upset him enough. One new feature could help you here: Hide any signatures that are too large. *hides Bilbo's signature*
haha, I think I was one of the knobheads you were agreeing with ;-)
I don't see any of the 'controversial' threads any more because I'm banned from Off Topic, and honestly it's improved the forum for me massively. And it means I spend less of my time time arguing the toss about nothing with knobheads and more time playing bass. Bi-winning.
Banned from off-topic? That's really piqued my curiosity. What did you do? Was I one of the knobheads you argued with?

They're miles away! The closer they are the bigger the signal, but too close and the magnetic field adversely affects the movement of the string. And makes that horrible 'clack' sound when you dig in. I'd experiment, can't do any harm to raise them a bit.
Tough crowd. How about ill build the bass (expect pups and harness), string it with new-ish Picatto Flats, give it a set up and offer delivery within 10 miles for £50? There's a pic further up of what it looks like built and a decent pic on the Precisions thread in Gear Porn
I'd have had this, but I've just done a deal with an old slapper...

As all agree, they're three very different instruments. You should try all of them. I owned a Warwick Thumb for a while and loved the sound of it, but a Precision feels more 'natural' to me, the way it hangs. It's easier to access the higher frets on a Warwick but at the expense of the (to me) more useful end of the fretboard feeling like it's miles away. The Thumb was very beautifully made though.
I'm about to do some this afternoon as well. It's been a long time since I done it but NBD came with 3 grubby strings so pulling out one of theold packets . As for the water. As far as my basic science when. It's the oxygen that makes things rust (Oxidization) but when you boil water it takes out some of the oxygen content.
Not really - any water left in the core of the strings will still be made of two Hs and an O. Fortunately, the string is (edit: usually) stainless steel and won't rust.
The good bit I got a pre-amp module from on old Hohner B2A headless bass if anyone wants it. The bad bit Some of the wires have come off the module and I don't have a wiring diagram for it If you can make use of this just drop me a mail Cheers
I have one of these, installed and working in a bass, so if anyone needs help with identifying the wires PM me and I'll have a look.
. Wont damage your Bass, not as long as you remember to take em off first anyway.
I'm visualising a bass-shaped saucepan on the stove, being stirred by Terry f***witt; steam rising.

It can rejuvenate old strings for a while. I don't see how it can damage the bass (assuming you don't put them on the bass straight out of the saucepan to allow them to drip-dry).
