Loads of ideas already about on this site. Search for Phantom power or similar.

Think the best Idea was to use a stereo jack to a box that sits on your amp with the 9v supply plugged into that. Mod the bass by linking out the battery.

You don't need to link out the battery. With some cunningly placed diodes you can arrange two separate 'phantom boxes'; one you use in line with the guitar>amp lead to power the electronics from an external voltage source, and another you use to charge the guitar's internal battery when it's not being played. I'll draw a schematic if anyone's interested.

When a cheapo Aria is worth 1k.....
I thought that too. But thought maybe my eyes were deceiving me. As for the out of date johnnys do the drug mules still swallow there cargo in them??
'Please note these are used but have only been through my digestive tract once...' -
I'm going to buy one just because Murmac is eloquent and witty and it's one way of buying him a pint. I'd like to buy something from Vibrating, too, for being such a reliable Mr Angry (I'm a big Mark E Smith fan btw). What is it you sell?
Beginning to wish I hadn`t asked - so embarrassed.
Don't be, sounds like you have an extreme technique that calls for an extreme setup. Interesting that you say emg pickups have worked for you. These have a weaker magnetic field than passive. Maybe try lowering the pickups so they're miles away from the strings?
Yes we all know it, top two sound weedy compared to the bottom two. And after thirty odd years of`no Precision`, I now have a Mexican Rosewood board one. And my question is: In the intervening period, has anyone come up with a pickup, or a set of strings, or a bridge, or whatever that actually gets all four strings sounding even yet? I was about to pop for either an EMG active pickup (had a PJ set on my original work bass for years) or maybe Lollar or similar, but thought I would see what the accumulated wisdom on here says first. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you have, guys. Oh and no I dont want to put a carbon fiber neck on it or a graphite one!! (grin)
It's never been an issue with the various Precisions I've owned...have I just been lucky?

yup... it's another bloody band thread, my apologies in advance
Band Social Worker Musical ability is only a small part of the band experience. Finding 4/5/6 people (specially "artists") that get along in sometimes trying circumstances is pretty difficult. You people!
Plus the one, 'like' button and quoted in the Famous Quotes thread. Currently looking for a guitarist who sings, never been in a 3 piece band before... -
Another good option for a car with tons of space is a Citroën Picasso - my Dad used to have one (old shape, don't know what the new ones re like) and the back seats came completely out, gave a massive load space, nice high driving position too. Got a good ten years out of it pretty much problem free before he moved it on, I borrowed it for a good few gigs and it was great.
Or a Renault Espace, pretty much the same thing. Very comfortable and, like the Picasso, the rear seats are all independently removable.
I remember reading a similar story in a hi-fi magazine many years ago, probably in the 70s. Same sort of set up as described above but the test was for overall 'fidelity' of a hi-fi system. I forget the finer details but the gist of the story was that when they used some solo violin music to test the fidelity of the systems being tested, most listeners agreed on the 'system' they disliked the most . . . and it turned out to be a live violinist.
haha, I really want that to be true. I also heard of an AB test of identical speakers: consistently different results depending on the colour of the grille cloth, where pale colours always led to a perception of a 'brighter' tone.
Some amps don't have an input transformer, just a big resistor, maybe they could make a difference there.
nope.
Thereby demonstrating the inherent flaw in the system. Given no more than a minute, I could name 20 people who are of greater benefit to our community. And so could everyone else.
Name me and I'll give you a 'like'.
Just sent the buyer a link to this thread. Normally i wouldn't interfere, but as both Ebay and the seller were aware that this item was fake, i think it's only fair that the buyer should know what he's really bought, and gets the chance to do something about it maybe.
Any response?
The second band seems to have the right approach, and maybe with more work, would become as competent as the first.
Yeah, that sounds much more promising. -
Surely he should be busy playing the drums?
There you go, Discreet. Another 'like' sticker for your bass case.
Has anyone ever told you before that you might be a little mad in a totally healthy way?
I 'liked' this. Skank is the Anti-tBBC, isn't he?
Great, now someone has 'Negged' my post #5.
Yeah, that was me, sorry, just negging your neg to make it a positive. I've 'liked' some of your other posts so you're still ahead. Can we still be friends? I don't think anyone's going to take it very seriously going by the comments so far.

When a cheapo Aria is worth 1k.....
bremen replied to lemmywinks's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Oh dear.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CUSTOM-BUILT-BASS-GUITAR-PRO-AIRBRUSHED-L-K-/180754643413?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a15d0f9d5 I've mentioned this guy before, he's local to me [shudders] and has a habit of butchering guitars, giving them a half arsed motorcycle gas tank spray job and sticking them up on eBay for many times their value. Here we have what looks like an Aria Pro body with an Aria STB neck on, the P pickup rout filled in and the tuners ground down to a funny (and sharp looking) shape. It now sports a fuzzy amateur paint job which qualifies it to be called a "custom built" instrument with a "pro airbrushed" finish. So that's parts from 2 cheapy basses that have been bolted together and painted in a shed, seems like a bargain for £999.....
Do they sell? -
I had a P neck from them. It was ok; bit deeper than a fender. Frets were good.

Very cheap strings - if that's what you like ;-(
bremen replied to KiOgon's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Might give them a go, thanks! Anyone tried these, even cheaper? (assuming you're buying something else to save shipping costs) http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_valuestrings_e_bass_medium.htm -
The Ballad of Tom Jones too? This could be a thread - "The most innapropriate wedding songs"
Someone on a (much) earlier post had 'I Will Survive' on their setlist. 'Every Breath You Take' seems to be quite standard. One day I'll get a chance to play Zappa's 'Bobby Brown'.
If two amps are both rated at the same power output then one will usually sound louder than the other if: (These are EQ curve, filtering, compression and 'tone' issues - these points are all regarding increased perceived loudness without any difference in actual power.) 1. It has less bottom 2. It has more midrange 3. It has more treble 4. It has a less clean sound but the dirt is pleasing to your ears 5. It has steep highpass filtering to avoid wasting power on subsonics 6. When it clips it clips in a more sonically pleasing manner 7. It has a good limiter which allows you to push it harder before clipping or unpleasant compression occurs 8. It has in-built compression which increases the average:peak level ratio (These are specification and power section issues - these points relate to amplifiers actually producing more power in the real world) 1. Its power was rated at a lower %THD 2. It has greater current delivery reserve 3. It can deliver more peak power 4. It is better at handling reactive loads All comparisons need to be done with a very high spec loudspeaker otherwise its non-linearities at high power will lead you astray. Change the cab and all bets are off - sensitivity makes a HUGE difference to dB out.
+1 Gentlemen, these are the facts.
