Just got a lovely little practice amp, the day after I sent the cash. Nicely!
I have a pair of 20 year old (probably) 58s, that have never had anything done to them (except for gaffa tape holding the casings together, damn those punk bands) and still sound as good as they always have. I have done nothing to them, and have no intention of replacing them.
Nonsense. You should use the method endorsed by professionals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vToepYWmOq4
Thanks guys (had to laugh re the Jazz bass Steve, you've got a good memory mate). Problem isn't one of tone, I've got exactly the tone I want, it's one of timing, it just feels as if the bass is pushing things along a little, which isn't the feel I want. I might try it on fretless later and see if the slightly longer attack helps at all... In posting here I was really wondering whether anyone else had experienced the same problem and if so, how they dealt with it?
Tried playing really softly over the 20th fret? This gives me a longer attack. The closer I get to the bridge the more 'hurried' it sounds. Instrument of choice: Precision bass with Chromes. Here's a fat old bass line not in a hurry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3lqFbEKgik...feature=related
Someone thought it's be a good idea to have them in the office but the poor bastards need a home, I think they are about 2-3 years old and they are lovely but a work place is not right for them.
I've asked at the (agricultural) College of West Anglia - they might take them but the woman who'd make the decision is on holiday right now. Let me know if they still need a home in September.
I am currently reading 'The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions' by Mark Lewisohn. Basically its a day to day diary of their sessions at Abbey Road studios back in the '60,s. There is an entry from the White Album sessions where they are recording a track called 'Savoy Truffle' And they recorded a powerful brass section for it, and then they distorted it. The engineers where horrified! - nothing like that had ever been done before, but its what The Beatles wanted!!
Nothing is more blasphemous than a properly played distorted guitar. It is capable of making blasphemous noises, and that's what first attracted me - F. Zappa
Try the 'items wanted' section of the forum. You'll have more luck. You may also want to try the 'Bass Guitars' section if it's just advice that you want. I think a Squier may be the way to go here. All the best in your quest for p bass sweetness!
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Squier-Precision...=item2eb71583bb
I got a Mighty Mite from a US EBayer for about £70 a month or so ago...
How was it? I had a Mighty Mite P neck that was a lot deeper (ie from surface of fretboard to back of neck) than the 90s Jap Fender neck I prefer. Was good quality though. Warmoth P necks are even deeper. Anyone selling a Fender or Squier P neck here?

Paul just sent me a metronome in the post. For free. Batteries included. You don't get service like that every day :-)
Couldn't resist either. Sent "does this have the original 'Fender' one or the £15 one you bought recently on Ebay? Spose you wouldn't know though as you "don't know much about guitars." Why is this auction still live though?! Only 2 hours to go & someone is potentially going to be very unhappy.
I'm watching it, so when I get notification that the auction has ended I'll email the 'winner' and warn him that he *may* have been scammed. -
I hope that whoever the poor sod that buys it collects in person. Those plastic mirror type p/g's shatter quite easily. That one looks to be under so much stress with the cheapo pups being amateurishly jammed in there that I doubt it'll take the bashing that it will undoubtedly get when the buyer smacks the seller in the face with it.
Fixed it for you. -
Excuse my dumbness, but how can you tell it's a Squier and not a Fender, when it says Fender on the headstock and the photos don't really show you much?
Bit suspicious that there are no serial numbers anywhere. -
Still not found a set of flats I like, they are all too high tension for me especially the G. Any low tension set recommendations? ficelles
After years of zingy rounds, I'm a born-again flat-earther - what Wateroftyne and Panamonte said. I'm using D'Addario Chromes and find them really soft and easy to play, despite a lot of folk here finding them 'stiff'. Maybe I'm using a lighter set? I can't remember the gauge, but they have blue silk if that gives any clues.
