Kitting out my garage as a rehearsal space
If you want some better isolation then put your floor down on tennis balls. Seriously. But batten down around the floor area. Fill this area with old tennis balls. not literally but not more than an inch or so between the balls. Put your actual floor down on that. The balls will compress as more weight goes on, but they will support literally tonnes of weight. With enough weight the compression is such that the inner build doesnt roll off, until that point just secure the inner floor in place temporarily. Once your floor is in place, build battens off that and double layer it with plasterboard. The two layers of plasterboard should be caulked and at an offset so the seams dont line up. Dont use foam, high density rockwool is the way for some sound insulation. That and the air gap will be fine. Then whack a ceiling up and double layer that with plasterboard. The isolation will be good enough to support the use of this space for getting medieval on the sionger's a**se if he hits the notes wrong, you can supply your own pliers and blow torch....
+1 to all that. And make sure it's airtight except for the deliberate ventilation. Friend of mine did a great job on his garage using this stuff: http://www.domesticsoundproofing.co.uk/sou...oofing/rbar.htm and a lot of heavy plasterboard. He doesn't use live drums but anything else is inaudible from outside, and his neighbours still love him. -
What a waste of web space.
I reckon it's someone's college project. As bollocks on the Interwebs goes, it's a drop in the ocean!
The same guy has just listed http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WAL-4-STRING-FRETLES...=item2c5c8cb72c and http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/5-STRING-WAL-BASS-/1...=item2c5c8d0c1c Basschatter?
I find it ever so slightly creepy that he keeps referring to it as 'she' and describing it as 'beloved' (not so beloved that he isn't pimping her out, mind).
Just a quick update on this one. The buyer left negative feedback stating, "the bass was a fake and the seller was unreasonable, but paypal helped me", to which the seller replied, "cash converters were happy to buy this original 1978 bass, this buyer was wrong". So look out for a shonky P-bass, coming soon to a cash converters near you...
Bet he didn't get £800 for it...
Yeah, I didn't get told about that incident until I'd done most of the work and it had been sat around my house for 18 months. Raw sewage marinated guitars are pretty unfashionable I guess.
Tell us the story! I think it looks bitchen
The piano part is more crucial so just stay out of the way of him..
The piano part is pure Abba! Elvis lives. I want to listen to Shipbuilding now.

What kind of pedal is he using to make his bass sound like a guitar?
bremen replied to Darshan's topic in General Discussion
Anyone know what kind of effect the 2nd Bass player is using here for the solo right at the end of the tune? I want that pedal! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00tzcnyDL68
Never mind the bass, how about that sax solo! Lifts the whole thing, what a rush. -
A good song is a good song is a good song.
Agreed with just about all the resposes to the OP (well, the sun's shining and I've taken my medication...). Overheard at my last (covers with 2 originals sneaked in) gig: 'Who's Gregory Isaacs?' and 'That's not a Bob Marley song! It's Eric Clapton!'
If there wasnt one in the first place, then just a reply saying so would be great. I'm not mud slinging in anyones direction with these posts (even though I know it wasnt aimed at myself), I just wanted to clear it up, as he isnt responding to my PMs. Price is irrelevant, its more principle really. Said its in good working order, but its really not if theres no lead to run it with!
I can't move without hanging myself on a kettle lead. PM me and I'll send you one for the price of postage. -
Bombast is an all time favourite of mine too, but Two Librans, Gut of the Quantifier & M5#1 are also doing for it me at the moment.
That list should surely include Behind The Counter? MCR is stuffed to the gills with crusty brown basslines :-)
Everything that you can play on a 4 string bass, you can play easier on a 5 string bass.
There's something lovely about the simplicity of a 4 string with big gaps between the strings though. I just don't find playing 5 strings as relaxed. Maybe if I hadn't played 4 strings for about 20 years before getting a 5 I'd feel differently. Wouldn't like to be without either really.
Currently looking at this beast for sale locally at a very cheap price. (Pic attached) Google isn't coming up with much useful information about it...I've gathered from the seller it's a 4 ohm cab but I can't find anything about the power handling of it. Does anyone here have any experience with this cab? Any info would be much appreciated!
I used one for years and it was loud rather than deep. Nice dirty sound with an Ampeg V4.
I pretty much but all my gear from here now. So far this year I've bought 3 basses, 2 cabs and an fx unit from BC'ers. If I'm buying secondhand this is the only site I'll use.
+1, never had a bad experience buying or selling here; feels more like trading with mates. Cetera, still *loving* the CIJ P neck you sold me a few years back. It's become part of the best bass I've ever played.
+1 I would also thoroughly recommend Terry Chapman's work - excellent work at reasonable prices..
Maybe a bit late, but Richard Bartram has done two jobs for me, including turning an unplayable (literally - it had potholes in it) fretless Precision neck into a thing of beauty, and totally removing all traces of fret buzz from a Warmoth 5 string. He really cares. http://www.richardbartram.com/
Yeah, I was planning on buying the Tech 21 Bass Driver DI. And no the amp doesnt have a Line Out I don't think. It literally just had: Inputs, Speaker outputs on the back and a preamp output on the front.
'Preamp output' _is_ 'line out'.

Gary is a pleasure to do business with, and his merchandise is in perfect condition, as described. Cheers!

The best 'ampeg' sound I've got was from a Pod, modelling a Hiwatt 200. Second best was an Ampeg SVP Pro with a solid state power amp (my current rig). Last time I played through a SVT and 8x10 I was disappointed. The guy whose rig it was got a fantastic sound though, definitely an Ampeg sound. Not sure what point I'm making [All: so what else is new?] except that it's all in the fingers
input much appreciated but this is crap if I have to protect the system from itself!! You come across this before? Worth having a chat with the importer? Sound Control closed now so can't go back to the shop any more...........
I know what you mean. But it's a big amp, and takes a big surge that some house electrics are just a bit over-sensitive to. The guy who built the device had problems with it tripping the fuse at his rehearsal room.
I really don't buy that. Yes the all-valve SVT and sealed 8x10" cab has a distinct sound but the rest of their gear varies hugely. I would suggest that if you see a rock band who have a nice fat rock bass sound happening and there's an Ampeg rig there then you attribute that to the rig when you could get that same sound from so many other rigs. Just like the hordes of guitarists out there believing that you can only get 'that' tone from a Marshall stack cranked up to 11. The power of marketing and subconsious self-persuasion... Alex
Bit like that 'unmistakeable Ric sound' that turns out to be a well-spanked Jazz :-) hurr hur, I said 'well-spanked jazz'
I think I have seen this posted elsewhere but can't find it. Have a problem with my Ampeg SVT6-PRO. This amp has hardly been used and just over a year old (shameful isn't it) and it seems to trip fuses when it is fired up. I strongly suspect it has such a high current draw on start up due to the caps inside that it is acting like a dead short. Once running, it can be switched off / on normally. Issue only seems to occur when fired up for the first time. Anyone got any ideas? Do I have a problem with the amp? I also remember seeing a unit that could be placed in line for high draw equipment to prevent this - anyone point me in the right direction? Help appreciated..............
Yes, someone here built himself a surge protector for not a lot. The only active component is a NTC thermistor, such as http://uk.farnell.com/epcos/b57237s109m/th...r-9a/dp/1688801
