Rock On (David Essex) Seriously, have another listen, thats Herbie Flowers at his best!
Good call, don't let the name put you off. Bob Marley and the Wailers tunes? That was a beautiful rhythm section and the bass lines are a joy to play.

 4.
Hello All A simple ask. Is there a specific pedal, that can give me a little bit of tube sound grunt? i use solid state stuff. im trying to get a 70's rock sound. not sure if i need distortion, or overdrive .I was thinking a tube pedal. It only needs a touch. Most pedals i have tried are to aggressive. Thanksin advance
Does it have to be a pedal? The rackmounted Ampeg SVP preamp gets halfway to SVT grunt/grind/balls. It also does clean.

You could also look for the likes of an SE Electronics SE2 (as this had interchangeable capsules, which adds to its flexibility). Being a superseded model you can find this relatively inexpensively NOS.
Try DV247 for these, they often have Rode and SE stuff at silly prices.
 6.
While I love the bass on the first link, I think this may be closer to what I am seeking, thanks
Pretty sure it's a Precision, though he used a MM now and again. No idea what sort of strings.
 7.
noticed a post about what we all think about growl... this is growl to me.. i will throw it out there and see what other peoples views are...?? as my growl may be very different to others.. headphones are needed.. this is very subtle growl and its on higher strings,.. but its there.. he has Lindy Fralins on this USA jazz.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d9eydCfTdw
This I like a lot! It's not what I understand 'growl' to mean though. I'm struggling to think of an example...hang on.. ah, here we go:
 8.
Guess we are still talking roundwound, what about gauge?
Yes, roundwound. 45 65 85 105 as endorsed by that bloke from California that can't afford a shirt.

 11.
I find nickels growlier than steels.
eg, GHS Boomers. Not as 'brittle' or 'zingy' as Rotosounds. The G string is a bit fatter sounding on my Precision. Writing about sound is like dancing about architecture, though. One man's growl is another man's clank.
 12.
Hey all I've just joined a new band after a nice rest from gigging and it's the first time i've needed to practice properly since my daughter was born. At the moment i'm using a cheapo Zoom multiFX but i need some way of mixing my mp3 player so i can learn songs quickly without waking the little lady up and getting a bollocking from the missus. Basically something simple which lets me mix an instrument and a line-in that i can use with headphones. Would need to be smallish and relatively cheap - i'd like a Bass Buddy but can't justify the cost as i already have a small practice rig. Cheers!
http://www.gak.co.uk/en/vox-amplug-bass/18625
 13.
"Socks should be worn at all times" Seems fair enough to me.
excellent! It doesn't actually specify that anything else must be worn, just lists stuff that can't. Ah, I'm mistaken: 'Caps must be worn with the peak facing forwards.' Dogs must be carried? So it's socks on cocks and baseball caps on heads.

 15.
See, the Ampeg and the Peavey, into a stereo power amp as a guitar and bass rig engine, would be immense. Did something similar, tempted to go there again.
Or for a bass: Neck pickup through the Ampeg into channel 1, bridge pickup through the Peavey into Channel 2, a big pile of Barefaced cabs. Nurse! The screens!
 16.
Full disclosure here, the mute and pad buttons will sometimes make a pop sound when activated, but since I mute with my pedal tuner anyway this was never an issue so I never felt the need to investigate it further.
They do that on mine. I think it's a 'feature' rather than an issue. Great sounding preamp, I use it with 1kW of solid-state power amp and it sounds better than an SVT. And I can carry it all on my own :-)

 19.
I think Bb has a very satisfying ring to it. If you play it on the A string 1st fret it gives a nice thump! 20.
Don't be hurt, you need to learn to take it as "large" as you give it, mate. Personally I know your video is a mockery which you concopted, but I for one find it really funny, and I have enjoyed watching it, never for one minute I thought you meant any of it but for entertainment purpose, I rate it, as it made me chuckle. When's the next one?
Thanks, man. That means a lot to me. Thinking about doing driving lessons next. How to totally OWN a road, you know. Or a 'just say no to drugs' promo. Haven't decided yet. Open to suggestions :-)

 23.
VAT is 20% on anything above £18 (commercial) or £40 (gift). Import Duty (Customs Duty to give it it's official name - separate and distinct from Excise Duty) is only payable on goods of a greater value than £135. It is waived if the Duty works out at less than £9. Copied and pasted from the horse's mouth: If you order or send purchased goods other than alcohol, tobacco, perfume and toilet water from a country outside the EU then you: don't have to pay Excise Duty may have to pay Customs Duty on goods with a value that exceeds £135 will have to pay Import VAT on goods with a value that exceeds £18 Note that on all goods from outside the EU, Customs Duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is £9 or under. If you're sending or receiving a gift from outside the EU: Excise Duty is payable on any alcohol or tobacco products. Customs Duty is payable if the value of the gift exceeds £135, but will be waived if the amount of duty is £9 or under. Import VAT is payable if the value of the gift exceeds £40. To qualify as a gift: It must have been sent from a private person outside the EU to a private person(s) in the UK. The Customs Declaration must be completed correctly (see link below). It must be for the use of either you or your family. There must be no commercial or trade element and it must not have been paid for by the recipient either directly or indirectly. It must be of an occasional nature only - for example for a birthday or anniversary. If it's perfume or toilet water it must be within the allowances described in the earlier section 'Perfume and toilet water'. If the allowances are exceeded than charges apply on the excess. See http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/post/buying.htm
I stand corrected!
 24.
You are confusing VAT with Import Duty. They are two distinct and separate charges.
No I'm not. VAT is 20% on everything. Import duty is (mumble)% on everything above £18 (thanks Chris).
 25.
You only pay import duty if the item is over £135 or the duty is more than £9.
Are you sure? I thought it was more like if the item was worth more than £20 or so, £40 if it's declared a gift.
