I am surprised they wouldn't be robust enough, I've had dub step, reggae, drum'n'bass, electronica, soul and loads of other genres through the speakers and high volumes. Surely they can take the signal from one instrument if they can take that?
It doesn't take much to get loud in a car - the volume of the car isn't that much greater than the volume of the speaker box. It's a different story when you try to move the air in a room. But for playing at home the neighbours will get pissed off long before the speakers fry. Just don't expect it to be enough for a gig.
  2.
Im after some music for the bass line for this Desmond Decker classic from waay back in the 1960s when i was a nappy wearing rug rat If anyone can help out? cheers daz
The run-up (what's the technical term?) is C major. Not what you might expect. Make your guitarist/keyboard player do it stacatto!
  3.
Mmm, not sure. He is clearly very very talented. I found his phrasing and general musical demeanor slightly anxious. It's hard to explain but it's not relaxed and smooth, wasn't sitting quite right for me, like it was one of those demonstrations that feels it's right on the edge of the player's abilities, fabulous though they are. Just my opinion you understand. It's been posted before, but this is much more my bag, because it is thrilling but also relaxed, you can feel how smooth it is and how completely comfortable the player is, and you can sense the way he's feeling while he's playing. It's entirely in the pocket, and the drummer's phrasing is so sympathetic to the groove allowing so much space for the bass to push and pull the overall dynamics.
Will you look at that congregation. Does this happen in Britain? Miserable old atheist as I am, this looks like a great advertisement for faith.
  4.
And tucked in Ashley_Id's feedback is a comment about him/her buying that black tele. But it's curious that the seller with tons of feedback seems to be the dodgy one. Is there any possible legitimate explanation? I'm struggling to think of one, but maybe someone with more ebay experience or more imagination can help us out?
Nessaballard has mostly been buying and selling womens' clothing (and a fake dog poo/turd). Maybe she's trying to sell her partner's bass behind his back...not knowing that he's selling it anyway?
  5.
Yes.....it will give you a nominal figure as a guide. I've done it myself before.
DC resistance will be lower than the nominal impedance. 8 ohm speakers will usually read around 5 ohms on a multimeter.

  7.
I swopped a Musicman SUB for a beat up 1990's MIJ 57 reissue Precision. The guy I swopped it with probably thought he got the better side of the deal but i really love it. It has quite a shallow neck which is very easy to play and sounds great. I have another SUB and a Jazz but the Precision is my bass of choice.
While we're here. I got a CIJ Precision neck from Cetera a few years ago and it suits me better than any neck I've tried. Wide and shallow. I have this on a P body with flats and it's just as many here have said, the bass you'd save from a fire. Now I want another P to put rounds on. Is the CIJ neck a different shape from current Mexican P? If so, does anyone have one they'd part with?
Also the steel rods can add a bit of weight to the neck. I had a Walnut body so it didn't affect balance but is you spec light ash or something then it might be an issue.
My 'dinky P' in swamp ash is almost comically lightweight and the neck doesn't dive at all. Might do with Fender type tuners, but it's fine with Schaller lightweight.
  12.
Musicians hear the bad notes. The audience hears the good notes.
That's deep.
  13. What's this one then?
  14.
Do Mighty Mite necks have a logo on the headstock? If not, how can they be identified? Cheers
Mine was stamped 'Licensed by Fender' on the heel. Nothing on the headstock.
  15.
I want to buy a bass with a unique sound. I want this bass high / slap sound from the fender Marcus Miller bass and a huge low sound. What bass you suggest? Also interested if i do not find a production bass, to buy a handmade instrument. i want from this bass an alder body, maple neck with birds eyed maple fingerboard.for this bass I have not decided what pickups and what electronics will have. my opinion is 1)bartolini 9J1 with aguilar OBP-3TK on board preamp or 2) Delano JC 4 HE/M2 pickups with Delano Sonar 3MS/E on board preamp. What is your opinion? Warmoth
I know a few BC'ers have experience with them. I just did a build on there for fun and did a calculation for VAT, Duty etc etc and it seems either their prices have gone down or the exchange/duty rates have changed a lot. A similar build I did last year came out at around 800 quid landed im now looking at 520. I hear varying reports about them as an instrument though, anyone care to share some stories?
I've built three Warmoth basses. They're very solid, necks fit perfectly in pockets. The necks are rather deeper than Fender equivalents (though I see they now offer options). One of the fretted necks needed work by a professional luthier to get rid of fret buzz; the other is OK but could probably be improved. The ebony fretless board is perfect. My 'dinky P' in swamp ash is noticeably light at 3.4kg, about the same as my Hohner B2A.
  17. I'd have this, only I just found that the P special has a Jazz width neck and I'm after something a bit wider. Or to put it another way: BUMP!
  18.
Why limit to nocturnal only ?
I do like the wetsuit in your avatar. Do you think she'd let me have a bit of it for my pickups?
  19. Just got a lovely little practice amp, the day after I sent the cash. Nicely!
  20.
I have a pair of 20 year old (probably) 58s, that have never had anything done to them (except for gaffa tape holding the casings together, damn those punk bands) and still sound as good as they always have. I have done nothing to them, and have no intention of replacing them.
Nonsense. 23.
Thanks guys (had to laugh re the Jazz bass Steve, you've got a good memory mate). Problem isn't one of tone, I've got exactly the tone I want, it's one of timing, it just feels as if the bass is pushing things along a little, which isn't the feel I want. I might try it on fretless later and see if the slightly longer attack helps at all... In posting here I was really wondering whether anyone else had experienced the same problem and if so, how they dealt with it?
Tried playing really softly over the 20th fret? This gives me a longer attack. The closer I get to the bridge the more 'hurried' it sounds. Instrument of choice: Precision bass with Chromes. Here's a fat old bass line not in a hurry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3lqFbEKgik...feature=related
  24.
Someone thought it's be a good idea to have them in the office but the poor bastards need a home, I think they are about 2-3 years old and they are lovely but a work place is not right for them.
I've asked at the (agricultural) College of West Anglia - they might take them but the woman who'd make the decision is on holiday right now. Let me know if they still need a home in September.
