Here is a component that will achieve what you want, http://www.rhopointcomponents.com/products.asp?recnumber=10 but you need to know what you are doing to add it safely. The best way is to have it connected inside your amp in the mains input connection. You also need to choose the correct device to match the running current of your amp. Not sure if you can buy a mains adapter with a SurgeGuard in, but it would be worth searching around on the net. The device is basically a resistor which has a high resistance when cold (which limits the inrush current) but as it warms up after switch on its resistance drops to allow the normal running current to flow.
I use these in my amps. It shouldn't be difficult to make an inline unit in an ABS box with an IEC lead on the output and a mains lead on the input. If anyone's interested I can specify the parts from Maplin or similar and draw a schematic of how to wire it all up. edit: or buy the one Martin found :-)

Yes, Eubassix is for real and what you see is what you get :-) (a neck plate in my case, perfect condition, well-packed and quickly delivered).

Something strange and unexpected has happened....
Yep, I have a Jazz Bass that I like. In fact, I love it. I bought it a few weeks back because, TBH, I fell in love with the way it looked and felt (although on a more serious note, I was also feeling the need to extend my fretless sounds beyond the maple fretless Precision that until now has been my mainstay). Anyway, it's a '73, natural finish with bound rosewood neck, and not only is it a dream to play (although the neck is A-width it's quite deep and solid feeling), but it has growl and thump in just the right measure, something I've not come across in the same bass before. It also seems a whole lot easier to play in tune that my fretless Precision? So, after four years of negativity, I am no longer poorly disposed to Jazz Basses Chris
I haven't felt this way since Dylan took up electric guitar... -
Ouch... You do realise that if he did that and the bass was damaged/lost in transit your insurance payout would ammount to the £250 declared value? Not worth it in my opinion.
+1 not to mention the fact that Jake would be acting illegally ;-)

Never seen a bass with pickups placed like that...
Doesn't sound as good as Horace's Precision ;-)
Current ones have multi-tap transformers - rewiring instructions are on their website/forum somewhere. I've got a very old (blue case, red knobs) one they sold me a new transformer, with instructions. Nice people to deal with, but better on the phone than by email. The F2B is really built to last - as long as you can deal with the passive eq, it will be a keeper...but get a good passive Di as well (its a bit short on features like that).
Thanks!

Using you fine people for a bit of market research :)

Does anyone know if these have a dual voltage transformer, or if I buy an American one will I need to get a 110>230V transformer? Thanks!

Connect Bass' Earth when using Bartolini preamp?
bremen replied to Delberthot's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've had a good rake round and can't find anything. I am about to install a Bartolini prewired assembly to my gold Warmoth bass. Its a 2 band EQ with stacked bass and treble so as to retain the original look. The problem I have is that it doesn't say whether to connect the earth wire coming from the bridge or not. I have fitted EMGs before and the ones I used advised me not to but there aint nothing here to tell me yay or nae. Anyone fitted as set of these before?
My EMG-P is definitely quieter with the bridge grounded. Try both and see which is quieter. Can't do any harm. -
'Fraid not. My dentist and my wife say I have to sell it and it will be on the For Sale board shortly. I thought I would post some pics here for posterity. I'll post a few more soon.
Ironically it's an upcoming dental adventure that's going to be what stops me making an offer :-( good luck!

a guitar that increase the players confidence??
I have to admit, it's a cunning idea. I remember this hitting the news a couple of years ago, I can't remember what raised the Police's suspicions. It also reminds me of a Cheech and Chong film, where cannabis resin was used to make casings for TV's iirc.
And they built a VW Camper out of grass...of course, it overheated and - guess what happened next! -
Never had any problem... you just have to be patient if they haven't got stuff in stock.
Ah yes, I should have added: the only time they've disappointed me was when I made a large order and one item was out of stock I had to wait for that one item to come in before they despatched. So do check stock levels when you're ordering if you're urgent for anything!
hi anyone bought from thomann seem very efficient from their website ,they respond to questions quickly
Used them loads, and they're good at dealing with problems, eg a guitar stand arrived missing a rubber foot so they sent a whole new stand and told me to keep the incomplete (but perfectly useable) one. And when a power amp failed they sent a courier to pick it up and replaced it within a week.
Stick a bit of wood glue on the screws. It won't glue em in, but the glue will harden on the wood and add some protection to the wood the next time you take the neck off. ie, when you shim it!
That sounds like a Top Tip (and I don't mean in the Viz sense...). Anyone else tried it?
If he doesn't [do the right thing] I - and BC 's generally - just learn another lesson along the lines of the Jake thing. If this is the case then I've lost £116 but he's lost the goodwill of a significant proportion of the UK bass playing population. I know what I'd rather have Chris
Unless there was a twist in the tale that I missed, didn't the Jake thing end up with the right thing being done and no-one losing any cash?
This is my point of view as well. I know it isn't always practical however. Definately Allen's responsibility to at least get in touch and try and resolve the matter in my opinion and I also think that monday 8th to get in touch is way too long as he knows all about this now. Maybe he was defensive because he thinks that Chris was trying to rip him off? If this is the case then rest assured there will be a queue of people telling you that Chris is probably the most honest person on this forum and would not try and pull a fast one on you. Can you say the same? Come on Allen do the right thing and get this sorted with Chris!! Steve
+1; I've both bought from and sold to Chris and he is 100%.
He's definitely the passive model - as you can see from this pic.
No, not really. Vas is too high, Fs too low, Xmax too short and there's a big hump in the upper midrange. Needs a big box to get smooth low frequency response but then it doesn't have the Xmax to take advantage of the low Fs.
Whoah! Sounds like a right pig. So what's the one you're eyeing up? -
