These basses are a lot more powerful than they look if i remember right, good reggae bass
true, the neck pickup has a lovely dark tone. The bridge pup is a bit unmusical ('plasticky'?) in my opinion, but that's subjective of course. Nice bass overall, and never goes out of tune :-)
sexual orientation doesn't make any difference whatsoever.
+1; same for skin colour and sex. Not trying to be a killjoy though. I have no problem with a thread of 'Prettiest bass players' or the fact that given the makeup of BC most of them would be female. That JJ Burnel was a bit of a fox though :-)
Not really worth touching Thomann at the moment with the current Pound <-> Euro conversion rates!
The Pound <-> dollar is more an issue surely? If the € is high it buys more dollars, so it's the value of the £ against the $ that matters. Then again, I suppose they want a certain number of €s profit so we have to find that. So yeah, you may be right! I mailed Bluearan and Eminence UK at the same time as I asked Thomann (24 January). Only Thomann have bothered to reply so far.

Have you ever thought something was a good idea....
Was it red? might have been the same one i read.
Hardly likely. Paul's in Hemel Hempstead, miles away. But I left a book on the bus at Hexham once, maybe that was it. D'oh! You're in Wrexham, not Hexham. The mystery deepens. -
Sorry Bilbo, didn't realise you were just having a go at the "female" aspect. However I just saw the thread as a bit of fun really, in the same way as if it had been "your favourite rock player" or "favourite Fender player" or whatever, or your "favourite science fiction film". Heck, they have "best actress' at the Oscars, no one seems to have a problem with that, and it has also probably brought to light some players that may not have got a mention elsewhere. I definitely didn't see it as chauvinistic, but having grown up in a family dominated by strong women I don't think I even know what that really means! We could always do a "favourite male player" thread to even things out.
Sure it's just a bit of fun, but can you imagine a 'Best black bass player' or 'Best gay bass player' thread?

AxesRus don't sell them, Allparts do but the ones they sell are extra long, which i don't want. I need a regular length (a la warwick) switchcraft or neutrik one, can anybody help? Any particular benefit from using a 4ohm or an 8ohm cab?
bremen replied to ashevans09's topic in Amps and Cabs
With SS amps output current delivery versus impedance load at full power isn't linear. A 50w/8 ohm amp can be expected to deliver 70 watts into 4 ohms,
Which means that the increase in volume going from 8 ohms to 4 ohms is 1.5dB - hardly audible.
As for the notion of running as low a load as possible to 'get all the watts out of my amp', in most cases that's not a good idea. Most cabs can't make use of more than half their rated power before the drivers run out of excursion, and running any amp at minimum load impedance significantly raises the amount of heat generated in the amp, significantly lessening component life. As in all things, moderation.
indeed. -
0.022 and 0.047uF are the commonest cap values for guitars and basses alike - depending normally on if your pickups are single coil or humbucking. Some people say these values are too high and cut off too much of the treble - I don't know many people whose tone control is used at much lower than 1/2 closed. By putting in a smaller value cap then less treble is cut as the tone is turned down. [Jeez - hope I got that the right way round! Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!]
Yeah, that makes sense. Humbuckers have higher impedance than single-coils. So a humbucker would (generally) go with a 500k pot and a 0.022uF cap, single-coil with 220k and 0.047uF.
hi folks- a quick question about the controversial snansamp bass driver clone the BD121. I got one of these to try it out and my results are that it sounds VERY GOOD but there is a major fault. when the drive dial is turned past about 40% or the signal peaks through hitting a few big notes I get a digital sounding clpping noise. its a bit like a 'chirp', but not at all musical or even useable. any one else had the same experience? given the price I would buy another one (and test it in the shop) if this is a one off fault but if its a common problem then I guess I have to put it down to experience and start saving up for that sansamp! cheers guys, doug.
Is it a really loud, horrible squawking crunch; louder than the signal? My Behringer V-amp did that.

Wiring my pickup directly to the jack with a difference

I also forgot to put my feet down again so landed on my knees, to deafening silence.
I did that one time and landed on my face, split my jeans in the crucial crotchal area and snapped the jack plug off behind the pickguard. I borrowed a bass from another band for the next song, and by the time that was over our unpaid roadie had taken my bass to bits, extracted the remains of the jack, reassembled it, tuned it and handed it back to me. Played the rest of the gig with a refreshing breeze round the lunchbox.
