The reason the bridge is grounded is to rduce hum, not a safety thing.

[/quote] I have a bass with Seymour Duncan P and J pickups and yes, it can sound very like Geddy Lee's Jazz. I'd describe it as a 'snarl' rather than a 'growl' though.

All thoughts and comments gratefully received.[/quote] If you want to use both pickups simultaneously: a blend control in centre position will attenuate each pickup equally, and (unless you're running an onboard preamp) you'll lose top end due to the capacitance of the cable. You'll only be able to get the 'full volume' sound with one or the other pickup on full.

Please help![/quote] Recent posts suggest that there's a huge amount of variation in quality of Precisions, that there's no such thing as a good year or a bad year, that Crafted In Japan models are (on average) good value and quality, that some made-in-Mexico are better than some made-in-America for less cash, that some Squiers are better than Fenders, that you should definitely try before you buy. Then there are all the opinions on replacement pickups... good luck!

I saw them many times and he used various gear including Trace and Ampeg, and always a Precision (though I have seen a vid of him using a MM). I suspect he didn't much care what he used but he always got a great big raw sound. Yes, MCR is one of my favourites for his sound, playing and influence. Just about every track. Smif was quoted as saying 'if it was me and me granny on bongoes it'd still be the Fall' but Shanley's influence on MCR is huge. Love Hip Priest&Kamerads too.
