1.
I used the Elites before on my B2V (5-string): they were OK, but the life was not great. More recently I've been using Status Graphite strings on my Hohners, because I wanted a custom High-C 5-string set, and they seem to me to last longer. They want £ 13.57 + VAT for the set you're after, which might not be the absolute cheapest, but still good value IMHO.
Where from?
 2.
What's your poison, Lizzie? Punk, jazz, folk, classical, rock, zydec, afro-pop, indie, hip-hop, acid-jazz, jazz-funk, EMO, death metal, speed metal!
All in one song... mm, NICE!
 3.
Cheers for the thought. If it is what you say it is then I don't suppose there's much I can do about it seeing as it's all little surface mount stuff on a PCB. The SE-2As are in storage now - I might hook them up to a junker P/J some time and see if they do the same in that. As for the OLP, I'm now thinking about putting in a series/parallel/single switch then feeding that into an Aguilar OBP-2.
If you can get schematics I can rework surface-mount PCBs... PM me if you think I might be able to help.
 4.
Thursday bump, we still need 5 more tickets sold on this.....
Can I buy another ticket? Is that cheating?
 5.
The idea now would be to play back teh clean recording, through the FX, and record it onto a new track.
You wouldn't need to re-record it - just run the FX between tape out and mixer input.
 6.
anyone at all? or does no one live near cambs
I live in Cambridge and would love to be able to help but unfortunately property is so damn expensive here that even cheap places are scarce (have you tried down Fen Road?) and I know of no freebies. Good luck - let me know if you find anywhere!
 7.
Just read this topic and though I'm Belgian it also sounds familiar around here... For me it's a bit of a different situation but the feeling's the same. I have been fortunate to play with well known bands around here for the last twenty years and have had great times. Lately I feel that the music scene changed a lot and that everyone is hanging onto what he's got and that the smoothness of making music has disappeared and that making money and playing covers (out of safety reasons) is what it's all about.. That has off course always been important but the true spirit of making music and taking risks is difficult to find anymore. Hidden agenda's, hypocrite behaviour, cheap solutions, fake smiles and superficial friendship is all that I can see.. Because I have trouble with these items I have less gigs and it's hard not to become cynical but I still try to find comfort in the instrument itself. I still love playing bass (because that's what it's all about) and I use the time that I have to get better...is it not for a band or a project than it's just for me since it's only me that I have to challenge and surprise. Maybe times will change again and there'll come another opportunity to meet and play with musicians with the same spirit ? I don't know but nothing can stop me from playing bass. I can improve my fretless, I can work on chords, etc...there is so much to do and I don't need a band to get me going although it's always nice to get a good groove going with fellow musicians.. This is all just a passing fase so I wouldn't sell anything..I think I know the feeling and it always turned out ok in the end (sorry for my English, I try to do my best...) Good luck !
I'm sad to hear that, I'd always heard that the mainland European music scene was a bit healthier than ours. Your English is better than a lot of the native-English speakers I know :-)
 8.
I'm about to start laying down my first track, and have been advised by quite a few people to record the signal dry, then add the effects later. How exactly do I go about this? Mainly thinking about electric guitar distortion, but reverb and likes would be good too. Main issue is that I'd like to hear the effects altered sound through my headphones (ie playing a guitar solo won't really inspire me if the signal is dry!). Effects wise, I'm using a Behringer V Amp pro and a Lexicon Alpha as the input. Any advice?
The V Amp Pro is exactly what you need...it has a 'dry' output that you send to tape, then when you do the mix you feed the tape output into the line input on the back of the unit. You can monitor an effected signal from the headphone output (it's ok to plug that into a mixer input) while you're playing.
 9.
I'm 41 :-)
You need one of Alex's super-lightweight cabs then!
 10.
Solid Air I've posted this link before but I love Danny's playing on this version sooooo much that I'm going to post it again.....
Fantastic, hairs on the back of my neck tingling right from his first word. That's the blues, that is.
 11.
Behringer bass stuff does look great for the price - but there's a saying - you remember the quality but forget the price. As soon as you buy that cab, it'll drop in value by at least half, if not more. You'll then be left with the cab. You may love it, chances are you'll feel you could have done better. By all accounts they're heavy and made on a tight budget. You'd be better off buying secondhand I think - something better quality. Spend £100 on an Ashdown, Warwick, Hartke or similar cab and you be happier in the long run, I reckon.
Or speak to Alex http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=13344&st=140 or Bill www.billfitzmaurice.com I built my own (very similar to Alex's) and have never been happier, and get a lot of comments both from punters and players that have used it.

 13.
This is not off topic at all, Bilbo, it's debate about what what we think IS negative. And I work hard at, and nail my lines, thank you. The paying audience deserves nothing less. Cheers. Ahh, you posted too quickly for me ;-) I'm not having a go at you, Bilbo.
A manly hug is called for, I believe.

 15.
You do, bremen. You need the appropriate skill level to get the job done. THAT is what makes great technique
well, yes, absolutely...did Silddx or I say otherwise?
- in my experience, it only becomes 'technical' if the skills used are more advanced or the ear more sophisticated than those of the people who criticise others for being too 'technical'. I will accept that I metaphorically bit silddx's virtual head off and I apologise (to him/her) but I think there is too much lashing out at people who have a sophisticated perspective on music by those who think its 'magic', play what they 'feel' and 'entertain' people rather than play the music as well as it can be played. This discussion is about players who have had the most negative impact upon bass players. I personally think that the constant dumbing down of skills to merely 'adequate' is counter-productive and undermines the effort of those players (of all genres of music) who put some effort into dealing with their music. It makes bad, lazy players and serves no-one, least of all the audience. Nobody said anything about Julliard (trust me, you don't need to go to college to learn this stuff - most of the best people we all listen to didn't) but that doesn't mean you shouldn't nail this stuff properly. That is a negative trait that should be challanged
I don't disagree with any of that, but I don't disagree with Silddx either. He didn't lash out at skilled players, and neither would I. And we all agree that 'that doesn't mean you shouldn't nail this stuff properly'. [waits for BBC to comment]
Anyway, I've strayed off-topic again (moi?) so will get back in my box.
Was that OT? Not really. This is though: http://www.monkeon.co.uk/youwhat/
 16.
My advice - never listen to anyone that argues that doing less work will make you a better player.
I don't think that's quite what Silddx was suggesting - he was, I believe, saying that you don't *necessarily* have to have great technical skills to produce a fantastic groove. Jah Wobble might be a good example of this.
 17.
I think I'll wait a while before splashing out...
I tried to hold back but...
 18.
The Premature Ejaculators are a rock band that play all kinds of music with provocative and hilarious lyrics, as well as some mean riffs and some nice jazzy numbers. I played the drums, recorded, mixed, mastered, put together the art work for this album and I thought some of you guys might like it. It's £4 + 0.99 P&P. You can find the paypal link on our myspace page to pay. It should take 3 working days to receive your copy unless you hear otherwise. We sold 15 at our last gig! I hope someone likes it!
Just listened to the stuff on the Myspace and it's *disgraceful*. Won't somebody think of the children?
 19.
I don't really like later REM stuff, but I have to say I love the bassline on 'Ignoreland' - especially the way it compliments and drives the vocal along. To me that track is all about Stipe and Mills, with some nice drumming thrown in for good measure. What other tracks tie bass and vocal in so well? Pluck
If You Have To Ask, from Blood Sugar Sex Magic. Just about everything that Family played with the Wailers.
 20.
Just out of curiousity, why do you always spell Jazz "Jass" in all your auctions? Regards Mike
It was the original spelling of 'Jazz' http://www.redhotjazz.com/odjb.html Plus it means that when we get sidetracked into a discussion about spelling, it bumps the ad to the top of the Basschat pile :-)

 22.
That's bad? Jennifer
Warwick players *all* hate JJ. He played a Fender and made it sound good, you see ;-)

Yeah one of your band mates looks like he's been around a few years longer than the other three bit like the Fonze Vs Richie and Ralph ....
haha, me and the singer in my band are 49 and our guitarist is 22. We got a review that read '...look like a couple of members of the Stooges have kidnapped Harry Potter...'
