  1. Yes good bass tone does matter. *edited* If your band mates don’t care about tone they’re not tuned in to being in a band. If you’re not constructively listening to your band as a unit and aiming for consistency in your sound then you’re not fully engaging. To the point about simple set up we’re all capable of going bass>amp>speaker and we could all make that work but once we start trying to find our ‘voice’ with our instrument we do consider effects and enhancements to be more unique and distinguish is from others Why is tone important and why would punters care? Well we’ve all been conditioned by listening to professionally mixed music our whole lives to understand what sounds good and the human ear knows when things sound right or wrong. Too shrill we wince too boomy etc we know it’s wrong. A well mixed/good sounding band just feels and sounds right. Within that context we (irrespective of instrument) have a responsibility to play well, sound good and serve the song irrespective of genre. Why do live venues have a sound engineer? To make sure it sounds good of course so the punters come back! What I found with most musicians once they get some proficiency and begin to understand ‘how’ to play their instrument they take an active role in the sound as much as the technique. They know where they fit in the context of the song and they give a damn about making it work in the band. If these people are not in your band then it’s a sad day for you and the audience. Yes punters will dance to a bad band, they’ll even dance to bad musicianship. They may not know that that shrill noise is too much 2k but watch their faces when the feedback kicks in. Good sound should be a priority as should a good groove. If a musician is not considering their tone and the bands tone then they’re not really engaging in the process. Sure it can get ridiculous but as I’ve said elsewhere if we know how to use our gear, understand what makes a good mix and our place in it then we’re informed enough to get by and sometimes that’s the best we can hope for. I do know that I’d hate to be the one person in my bands who was ruining the vibe or the mix because I didn’t care enough to take an interest.
  2. It goes back to what Jus Lukin said if you don’t know how the gear works or how to get the best sound out of it you’ll never sound good. If it’s not sounding right after learning how it works then move on. We are spoilt for choice. Plus we grow accustomed to a sound and want to expand our horizon hence pedals, basses, amps always getting punted.. how many folk have sold up gear only to regret it six months later.
  3. Looks like this panel is part of a footswitxh to engage the drive or mid remotely from the pedal itself judging by the new fb post.
  4. Cheers for that yeah I was all set to go p/j but have taken a swerve as it would be 3 ‘p’ basses.
  5. Here we have a CIJ/MIJ P/J setup for grabs. The P has been in a bass but the J never installed by me and comes with the base plate and plenty of wiring. Described to me as sounding like an Aerodyne P/J set these pick ups came out of a premium Japanese Fender... "Although they are not specifically PB70US pick up's I believe that they are wound to US specs, or to put it another way, they were premium pickups to go with a premium bass rather than a budget model. They seem to sound a lot like the top spec Aerodyne bass pickups to my ear." and this is from a trusted BC regular who knows his onions and more importantly...his basses! I'm thinking of a Mike Lull-esque PT4 conversion on this bass so I have no need for this pick up set. Just fancy something a bit different to add to my stable! Oh and I can throw in an old bridge (five hole fender fit with barrels) if you fancy too to add to your project. Add £5 to cover P+P Thanks for looking!
  6. Selling my Behringer xenyx 502 mixer which I kinda forgot I had Saw one listed a week or so ago and recalled I had one in a box under the bed. I used this as a headphone practice set up before getting my current interface. Lots of useful applications from solo/duo/trio gig's (could accept mic in, guitar, bass or stereo keys etc any instrument really that has 1/4" jack) plus line from a ipod/laptop. Just given it the once over and all channels/knobs/inputs working as expected. Comes with dedicated psu. Tidy little package with the details available on this link: http://www.musictri.be/Categories/Behringer/Mixers/Analog/502/p/P0576# Last one on here went for £20. I'll do the same plus a few for quid for postage and packing
  7. bump Found these in the strings box bump
  8. I know Darren, just suggesting folks check him out 😀
  9. I’m not sure I follow?
  10. You could always rent it for a couple of weeks and see if it’s the missing link... fxPR have some..
  11. Oooh 😉
  12. It’s nice to know another function but again it’s getting a bit tedious. Once they reveal it it’ll all be a bit anti climactic.
  13. Another we snippet of info
  14. What he said. Parametric eq is a nightmare for the knob twiddler but if you know what you’re doing then it’s can provide a quick and easy fix and sort out a dodgy bit of feedback or rumble. It’s like tuning in a radio then cutting or boosting to fix the issue.
  15. I think we’vetalked About the Cali76 cb before- great comp with variable hpf so the lows don’t trigger the comp too soon. See the Cali made sense all along
  16. Yup I’m serious
  17. His bass needs a set up. Did you hear that rattle?
  18. I gigged a room once and every time I played a G note the room - not an 80lb combo, the friggin' room, rattled. "Can you not play that note?" asks the sound man! My response was along the lines of "Ach away and F**K right off! The only sympathetic thing you'll hear in here tonight mate is that vibration now get it fixed and do your job." I miss the good old days...*sigh*
  19. Yeah they didn’t show at NAMM but I know a guy who was talking to one of their peeps. They'll be there next time - I’ll presume they meant summer 2018 rather than next winter NAMM. I think folk have been expecting the drive for a while now and the reveal in time for the NAMM show made us think they’d have something ready for the market...or at least show us the bloody controls right! 😀
  20. I loved the comment on twitter or maybe it was Instagram where a guy wrote something along the lines of "I don't dig the eagle motif doesn't suit the brand" Errmm ...It's a condor dummy!
  21. Yeah it;s just that they included namm2018 in the hashtags etc so I presumed they would be showing. We'll get more info and audio over the coming days I'm sure.
  22. Word is the Origin guys are not at NAMM just revealing their pedal via instagram piece by piece. Booooooo
  23. Video up on instagram. Tried to zoom in on the controls but can’t see what’s going on. Any of you NAMM'ers able to get a pic of the actual controls? I'm interested in seeing what it has as we're unlikely to see/hear a bass demo as a priority over guitar.
  24. Sure we all know the public can't be trusted . I'm away off to set up for a gig. I'll expect this thread will have 100 replies by the time I'm finished with a 50/50 blend of opinions
