  1. Twice the price for twice the features but how much does a wee fan cost, a speakon connector and an fx loop I'm sure the TH500 sounds great but it does feel pricy in comparison if the two essentially sound the same.
  2. Wasn't radio always a bit biased in what it played and was as much an influence on what people could hear/was being bought as much as reflecting what was being bought? I recall back when Gorillaz released their first album. My mate got all annoyed as the singles were remixes which were more uptempo than the album tracks. I'm in no position to say if that's true or not but I recall him getting quite annoyed!
  3. We were waiting to start a gig at the weekend and a song came on the house pa. Singer/guitar player half knew it, I joined in and bluffed my way through it and had it down in a few bars. The crowd, many of which were ladies, were all singing away and having a great old time. Turns out it was an ES song. Then I heard about his current 'chart rampage' and we may do one of his tunes. People seem to love him. I'm still annoyed at him ripping off Brother Marvin on that terrible song a few years ago but the one I heard at the weekend was OK from a "give them what they want" set list.

I just always feel more comfortable on a bass with flats. A guy I'm starting to work with tried out my bass last week and fell in love with the feel immediately!
  5. Hey guys I'm after the TX model of this and one has become available so this is a SALE ONLY thread unless you have a TX you wish to trade (messages by PM only as per the rules thanks!) This is from the limited edition models produced a couple of years back which has a Germanium fuzz added which allows you to get some filth right from the comp. I've used it maxed for the Muse style effect which give a really tasty compressed, even dirty tone. The filth can be 'dialed in' with a control knob on the rear of the pedal - it does have a nice taper and can be added to give just a bit of warmth to the sound, whatever the source. The fuzz isn't foot-switchable, you'd kinda set it and have it at that particular setting. Great feature for recording when you side chain in a dirty comp for drums, works well on keys and can do amazing things for a guitar tone! Runs off 9v or 18v. I use my comp as an always on 'tool' rather than an 'effect' in my current bands so I find I'm using this fuzz function less than I have in other projects. Pictures included show some scratches on the casing where its lived side-by-side to some other pedals on my pedaltrain. Notice the box shares the stamped Ltd Ed number on the Cali- maybe the image isn't that clear but its there!   9. Interesting observation. If the Nobles fits into the modern trend of production and mixing for iPhones then you can see the pull. For many of us this is the sound we're aiming for. I have looked at the Motown D.I. too and it does give off a nice vibe. Ultimately as others have said if you're running into a£1500 preamp like a remake of a Neve or an API does the input source have as much impact. I still like the Nobles sound and what it would add to what I do. Oh to have the ability to road test all this esoteric kit!

  11. Top work both with the review and the the playing videos. That's the recorded sound needed 99% of the time for most of us. Just found out the drummer has bought an electronic kit (a good one) so this Friday we may be going 'in-ears' as a tester. If it proves to be useful and something we pursue on a regular basis the Nobles once again tickles the fancy!
  12. Depends on what sound you're after. The QPers have a specific tone and are built that way. The vintage stuff will sound another way. The website shows BMT values which helps illustrate what to expect. There's loads of great pick ups out there and if you're gonna experiment you've come to the right place.   14. GuitarGuitar use a guy in Fife. Last time I needed gear looked at I dropped off on a Friday and it was ready for collection the next week. £25 bench fee plus work/parts - reasonable really. My cab works I just wanted the tweeter looked at as it's not working (but I rarely used a tweeter just thought it would be nice to have the the option). It can wait.
  15. Yeah they have moved to Leith...(pause)...... I'm sure guys on here have used them and are very happy but I'm gigging at least once a week until the end of March and just need a quicker turn around and my gear not to stink of weed.
  16. Yeah I'm gonna have to agree that the Lakland's are nice. I was gigging a JO5 for a few years (it's heavy but not unbearable) but then managed to get a fantastic deal on a Dingwall PZ5 and it is the bomb. I prefer the feel of the Dingwall over the 4 string Fender but use both equally. I'm in a couple of bands so I'll use the Fender for the pub covers band and the PZ5 for the choir stuff I do. In reality the 5 string covers both but it's nice to have the option. As is the rule the P bass has flats and the 5'er skips between rounds and flats as is my whim!
  17. The secret Nashville bass. I understand these are used a lot in studios for that big p bass sound. I had one for a few years but it was massive on me. Super comfy to play though.
  18. I went to a local repair guy who told me its a £30 bench fee plus vat upfront for diagnostic. Paid up to be told it would be three to four weeks before it's ready to be looked at excluding actual 'repair' time. I had a last minute gig and called to say I needed the cab, got to the shop and the place was reeking of weed (it was a Saturday, two employees, no 'jobs on the bench') no signs of any actual work being done and once I got the cab in the car the cover was also stinking of weed. I'm heading back down today for a refund. I don't care if they're stoners but a three to four week wait and £36 up front so these lads can mooch about? No ta! I usually go via a local guitar shop. Drop the stuff off on a Friday collect the following Friday, £25 bench cost. I thought I'd go local as it's literally 5 minutes drive from my place. Needless to say I'll be dropping it off the next time I have a week without gigs. I get people need paid and it's a 'specialist' service but there's taking the p*ss
  19. I use the Apollo with the Neve and Ampeg plug ins (and a bunch more such as compressors and other channel strips that were bundled with it). It's a great unit, expensive though. I guess you could gig with it but you would need to be going direct into a (decent PA) or via a power amp. The plug ins sound are great and I use it daily to practice and record. I can run guitars, keys vox etc so it has the added flexibility but ultimately an amp for gigging would be much easier in the long run- fewer things to go wrong in the signal chain. There are other good interfaces which you could use for home practice and other devices. If you're running a desk and want the best then the Apollo is a worthy unit.
  20. Yeah it's a superb wee unit. I'm just a bit addicted to my DB680 and this is not getting used.
