  1. Old Horse Murphy Can I have dib's on the flea bass when you stick it in the classifieds
  2. Hoping this is still available for my trip down south in late August!
  3. I love the Super P's They sound great and feel great. They are spendy but you're getting a very high quality instrument! Plus this one is pretty!
  4. I'll take my chances I'd love to drop £900 at the enthusiasm of the forum members but the RW Dirnt model is more my thing. P body, P neck that CS'59 pick up. Since moving to a 5'er I find J necks a tad skinny and do have a thing for a 50's P bass. Like I say if it's there next week I'll plug it in.
  5. Tried one today in guitar guitar but just a quick pick up and noodle - not through an amp. I'm back over next Friday to collect some repaired gear so might try it out then and hear what its got.
  6. Nah no boost on mine just the germanium drive volume control on the back. I've not bothered with the tweaks as it sounds good to me as is. Nice to have the option though. It's a fine bit of gear!
  7. I cranked mine at rehearsal on Sunday for a bit of mid practie filth and it allowed me to do a decent version of Hysteria by Muse. A tight, compressed driven sound - even the band leader said "I'm not sure of the song but I like the sound!
  8. I was thinking about it but might shop elsewhere with that info in mind
  9. Where did it go back to so we can avoid getting it You should have kept it and called it Ms Piggy
  10. The manual has some suggested settings which could be worth a punt and I seem to recall some demo vid with bass only clips on their site. I have the germanium version and pushing the input and output along with the germanium drive all up full gives meaty filthy tone. I'm sure pushing your input and output would give some flavour of filth worth mic'ing to hear in a mix of recording time permits? I've mine set around 4:1 with the peaks hitting about 10-16db attack and release to taste or if I was needing just a filthy tone I'd drive it hard as described above. Actually I'd love to record it at full filth and mix it with a clean signal to hear the results. They're great tools to have st your disposal these Cali's
  11. Really miss my old RW jazz which was nicked. This could be the replacement
  12. Looks like it has the Nordstrand pick ups. I know there were a few options at time of ordering
  13. Here's my current board - simple but sounds great for my needs. I've got the compressor always on in the series loop of the Basswitch and the drive in the mix loop (which has a clean blend function). There's a great EQ and DI on the BS and the Cali76 adds a really nice colour with it's inbuilt pre-amp as well as it's comp duties. The bonus of the Cali is it's the Cali76-G which has a germanium drive built in so if I run it with input and output up full and the germanium control all the way round to dirty it's a wonderful, filthy sound. There's a Cioks DC5 hiding underneath powering everything at optimal voltages! Tuner has it's own tuner line out from the BS so is out of the signal chain. [attachment=222549:IMG_0382.JPG]
  14. I had one for a few years - got it in a trade for a Ibanez SR500 - the guy hadn't played it in ages and couldn't handle...you guessed it...the weight! I loved that bass and it had that great tone that when you'd dig in it would get gnarly. At the time it was like others have said just a beat up p from the 70's and not worth what they command these days. I'm very fortunate that my old P now lives on the Phil Lynott statue in Dublin cased in Bronze. Unless they've used another one since it was hit by a motorist last year.
  15. You say the gods are telling you to keep it and there's a bunch of us telling ourselves the gods are intimating to us directly we should buy it 😉 Ahh the mind!
  16. My power lead blew a fuse at a gig the other night and of couse I had no spares so my main pre amp was out of action - the Basswitch became my pre-amp for the night and it worked a treat! Bumpo!
  17. Y'know that home studio you have Chris *wink wink* sound clips of the '55 😉
  18. See that's terrible news. Since going to a 5 string the 50's big neck basses just feel better and more substantial than standard P's. Recently played a us standard then a 50's and the 50's was much nicer.
  19. I was pretty close to raiding the savings too but I've been on the 5 string for so long it would be a mad decision....or so I'm telling myself!
  20. There's nothing quite like testing new gear in your regular joint. Nice looking set up!
  21. I'd love to hear a good 1073 pre.....and a Monique!! Looks like the one on BD is a very early serial number. I believe the very early ones had 4 valves rather than 5!
